I'm adopting a kitten
About six weeks ago I noticed a tiny black kitten hanging
around my front porch. When I first saw him I was so shocked.
I had never seen a cat so emaciated & still able to walk.I thought
for sure he was near death.I grabbed a can of cat food & some
kibble and went out to him. He meowed like a baby & ate the
food I gave him.(all of it) I started to feed him everyday & leave
a water bowl out in the corner of the porch for him. This went on
for weeks until I could finally see he was gaining weight.I then
made an appt. for a vet visit & neutering. He was scheduled to
go in the morning after Sugar's accident. When Sugar became ill
I canceled the appt b/c Sugar was all I could think of at the time.
This little guy then went missing for a week & Indy had the rain
of the century over Labor day weekend. There was flooding all
over Indy. This little one showed up again last Monday & he
looked terrible. He was limping, eyes matted & had flies hovering
all around him.He looked like "death warmed over". I had taken
the day off work as a sick day so I ran & got the cat carrier &
put him inside. The vet took him in that day,He's been at the vet's
all this week while being treated for URI,infection in his hock from
a bite & one torn toe on his back paw. The vet couldn't save the
toe but his URI has cleared up & his hock injury is improving. He
had surgery yesterday to remove the one digit & be neutered.
He'll have to stay a few more days till the foot starts to heal some & then I'll bring him home. He's about 5-6 months old &
will be an indoor only cat with my other four kitties. I hope they
all get along. With him being so young & my others rangeing in
age from 4yrs to 1 1/2 yrs, I think they should.He's a very sweet
kitty. So tiny compared to my other boys.Wish me luck o.k.?

Liz, it seems as if the word is out for kittens in trouble. They seem to know the best place to go for help. What a challenge for you to take on such a very needy one, but that didn't seem to deter you in the least. You've done good!
You didn't mention a name for the most recent member of the family, or are all the others conferring as we speak?
-
Congratulations!!! That little kitten has no idea how lucky he was when he found you ( but I bet he knows now )
:D
-
I am so glad to hear you are adopting Black Kitten (besides Filou and Tigris I have a plush cat called Black Kitten who comes alomg when we go travelling :) ). He is so lucky to have found you. What a good person you are taking care of this little one although your heart was hurting because of Sugar:)
-
Bless you for taking such good care of that kitty. He must have known where to go for such loving care.
I can't wait to see pictures of him.
-
Rachel, I swear there must be a sign in cat language posted
somewhere in my front yard that says " sucker for kitties lives
here". LOL. I do put out dry food sometimes for the neighbor
guy's cat that he sometimes forgets about. Maybe
that's the draw. Anyway, this little one is so tame & sweet, just
would come to me right away. He has the longest tail & the
loudest meow I've ever heard. I haven't even thought about a
name for him yet, but I've been telling the other cats that they're
going to get a little brother & they better be very nice to him.:D
-
Congratulations on the new addition Liz. It's so wonderful of you to take in this sweet little kitty.
Maybe when he's home you could take a few pics??
-
Oh, Liz. What a precious little soul that found his way to you!! God knew what he was doing when he aimed this wee one's compass in your direction. Reading of his ailments broke my heart. But thanks to you, he's on the mend:) I can't help but believe that his finding you was no accident. Sugar is looking down from the RB, so proud of her mommy. Please let us know how he's doing. I think the "kids"will welcome him with open paws. {{{HUGS}}} Sandra

Congrats on your new addition!!!:D I'm so glad that you found each other. He sounds like such a sweetheart. I can't wait to see and hear more about him. :)
-
AAWWW Liz, that poor sweetie has suffered so many things already in his short little life. I am so glad he has found you because now his luck has sure changed! I would love to see some pictures, if you can, when he gets out of the kitty hospital. He sounds precious. Here's hoping his new siblings will roll out the welcome mat for him. :)
-
Might he be a Noah - survived the flood? ;) Congratulations to that kitty, finding the sucker-for-kitties home a second time! Smart boy!

Oh Liz, that little guy knew where to go when he needed help.
It broke my heart to hear everything he has been through, but luck is with him now that he found a new Mama in you. Good luck with your new little baby and you must decide on a name, so that we know what to call him. lol. I guess we could always call him Lucky, lol.

Good luck, Liz. It sounds like he went through a living hell when he went missing. I think he came back for a reason and knew that your heart was sad after losing Sugar :)
-
Just wanted to say thanks for the good wishes for the new
little one. I now have such a peaceful house with 4 sweet cats
who all get along & my sweetheart Smokey who loves all kitties
& really never planned on changing anything. But if you could
have seen this tiny little guy that day.:( He was sitting on the
porch in the sun, fur all disheveled, flies all around his head, &
his was nodding off to sleep while sitting up.:( That was it for
me. I thought if he lives after this, he's coming inside to live
with us. Oh, I do have 3 pics left on that roll of film I've been
working on for the past month or two & I'll save them a few
more days till he gets to come home.:D
p.s. Thanks for the name ideas guys.:)

Lizbud,
You rock!!! That little baby probably wouldn't have survived had you not intervened. Any names yet? Don't forget pictures.
