Whats Firefly about, kari?
Let's see...it's a sci-fi tv series that was cancelled before the first season was complete. The creator is the same guy that created Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel for Fox. Firefly is nothing like those two shows, excepting that it's an ensemble cast. There are nine main characters and the series is set 500 years from now. Supposedly, the only two main superpowers that survive from now to then are China and the United States, so, everyone in the show speaks English and Chinese equally fluently, even the lowest of the low. It's sci-fi, but, there are no aliens or people with crazy faces or anything...it's all humans. There's also a western feel to it, like some of the planets actually have the people on horseback, some of the planets are pretty rudimentary. The main characters all speak with a sortof western vernacular, meaning they use words like "ain't" and drop the g's off the endings of their words, but, they don't talk with an accent. It's really cleverly written, well directed, and well acted. The music is really beautiful and it's cool because so many different types of instruments are used. Everything from Chinese to Irish to Western, because of all the cultures that are mixed into the show. Anyway...sorry, I get carried away. :DQuote:

I was hoping to see Elizabethtown as I love Orlando, and it looked good, now I am wondering if it is worth it,(saw Orlando recently interviewed on Oprah, and he is just the most lovely guy ever, now I am hopelessly in love with both him and Johnny the two most sexiest men alive lol :D Racing Stripes my daughter and her friends really enjoyed it.
Carole, and other JD fans, have you seen the trailer to his 'controversial' new film. If not you can see it here.

His voice in that gives me the shivers ... pleasureable ones I may add! :D
I just saw Saw2. I loved the first one, and this one was probably just as good. Just as much of a shock factor, and even gorier (sp?). I'm not overly squeamish, except with needles, and let's just say I squirmed in my seat. The ending was very twisted. Just...I love the whole idea of the movies. And there will be a Saw3. :D I won't spoil it for everyone else.
Have any of you watched Pay it Foward? It is an excellent movie. Helen Hunt is in it. Remember her from Mad about you? It is a real *tear jerker*
I've been anxiously waiting for this one myself! He's incredible! And, John Malkovich is amazing, as well. I can't wait to see this. :)Quote:

I just finished watching A Perfect Man. I liked it, it had a really cute story line.
I rented Garden State, I'll watch it later tonight.
I saw The Weatherman the other day. It was alright.. a bit long but there were some hillarious moments.
You'll have to let me know how you like it. It's one of my all time favorites. :)Quote:

We watched Pay it Forward last year in school. It was a good movie, but you're right, a real tear jerker!Quote:

You really should watch it again, when you're not so tired. That is a wonderful film. I'm a sucker for true horse stories, though. Phar Lap is another one that is just fantastic. It's amazing the heroes that have been in this world, both human and non.Quote:

Its an english movie and the accent always throws me off and sometimes I have to watch those movies again just to hear all the stuff I missed...lol. Daniel Craig is the star of the movie and I think he is going to be playing the new James Bond. I'm not for sure about how he will do in that role. I can't really picture him playing Bond. I thought Pierce Brosnan was a good James Bond. I'll have to see how Craig does in that role.
I think Layer Cake is made by the same people who did the movie Snatch. I love, love, love the movie Snatch! Has anyone seen it?

Has anyone seen Jarhead, yet? It came out in theaters yesterday, and, I've only one heard one review, and, it wasn't good. I get mixed feelings when I see the preview for it. I want to see it because of Jake Gyllenhaal (I always spell his name incorrectly), and, because the director also did American Beauty, which was absolutely incredible. But, I get a feeling that it looks like it isn't that good. Ugh. I will probably still try to see it once I feel better, but, I don't know...just waiting to see what some other folks have to say about it.
EDITED: Just went to my favorite review site, and, I don't know...I think I'm going to end up liking it...the bad reviews are mostly bad because the movie doesn't have any actual battle scenes, not much action apparently. And, that won't bother me. Hmmm...gives me hope! :)
Î just found this thread and I don't know if someome already recommended the following films
"Bonbon el perro" is an Argentinian filme about the ups and downs of a Dogo Argentino and his owner.
"Der weisse Massai" (The White Massai): a Swiss woman while in vacation in Kenya, decides to stay to live with a Massai warrior. Based in her real life.
"Pride and Prejudice" I would recommend for a girls night.
I saw Ladder 49 the other night... so good, but so sad! I don't think I've ever cried so hard in a movie before! :(
I watched most of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night, i'm sick so i couldn't stay awake for all of it haha. I'm going to watch the rest today. I watched an hour of it and it was *so* good. Usually movie's based off books don't really compare to the books but I have to say the movie was much better than the book. If you haven't seen it, you should. It is awesome!
It is a great movie! The whole thing with Willy reminiscing about his childhood was an interesting twist, completely created by Tim Burton. And, the ending is different from the book. I don't know that I liked it better than the book, but, it's definitely closer to the book than the Gene Wilder version. I think Roald Dahl would have been pleased with this version. But, it probably wouldn't have been made if he'd been alive, as he HATED the original Wilder version. I love both. :)Quote:

I really don't like Johnny Depp but he was awesome in this movie. He fit the part perfectly. In the first move Willy Wonka was too nice. In this one he was portrayed to be a bit crazy and eccentric.
He was pretty nutty in the original, too. But, yeah, definitely more eccentric in this one, but, the book had Wonka as definitely off his nut. ;)Quote:

Just watched that movie last weekend, beautiful. I loved it.Quote:

I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a few days ago. There was something about it that really creeped me out. I haven't read the book in a long time but I recall it being happy and the factory being so upbeat and magical but in the movie it was so dark and drim. Something about Willy Wonka really creeped me out.Quote:

Oops..I meant it's based on a book, so I might buy the book.
If you like blood and gore check out Devils Rejects or House of 1000 Corpses.
I just saw the movie "Smile". I thought it was really sad. :( Has anyone else seen it?
I saw some of the movie THE LONGEST YARD, I fell asleep , not because it was so boring, but I was tired, it seemed quite funny in the beginning and my family were enjoying it,but I think I would have got a little bored in the end had I managed to stay awake, lol. :D
I watched Napoleon Dynamite last night. Had never seen it. Pretty funny. I liked Pedro the best. And, I also watched two thirds of one of my favorite movies, L.A. Confidential. That movie just rocks so hard, it's awesome. I had to leave, but, it was my friend's first time seeing it and he loved it. I mentioned this in the Harry Potter thread, too, but, i saw the new one the other night. Excellent. I want to go see so many new ones, but, Walk the Line comes to mind right now. Love Johnny Cash and June Carter. :)
We went to see Walk the Line a few days ago and just loved it!!! Part way into the movie - I found that I forgot the actor was Joaquin Phoenix and just believed it was really Johnny Cash. I learned many things about June and Johnnny that I did not know - looked them up on the internet to see if they were accurate and they were :) Reece Witherspoon was just perfect as June. I also loved the Maybelle Carter portrayal. There were a couple songs I have never heard but enough of the old favorites to get my toes tapping :D
We plan to go see Rent next. Daughter Missy loves that musical and so we have heard many of the songs for years! She went to see the live production in Cincinnati a few years ago and says quite a few of the original cast members are in the movie.
