Absolutely! Except cats are carnivores too, so do not be surprised if they don't eat any fruit/veggie and please don't push it on them either, all meat is better for them.Quote:

Oops forgot to post this mornings breakfast.
I fed them a large meal as we are leaving to go on a camping trip this afternoon. I wasn't sure how hectic it would be there and how Kaige & Indy would re-act (this is Kaige's first time camping & Indy's second besides camping in our yard). We'll be gone for 5 days total. I wanted them to have a full belly this morning in case they dodn't want to eat tonight or if they act different & I may not want to feed them tonight.
5:30 am, they each had:
chicken quarter (they were huge)
chicken organs (liver, heart, gizzard) (2-4 pieces each)
pork ribs (2-4 each)
egg & shell
And now they are knawing on a beef bone which is almost at the take away stage.
For the next 5 days while camping I packed:
Chicken quarters
pork ribs
eggs
I wanted to keep it simple as I am not sure how their systems will handle this trip.
We'll probably pick them up something different at the store while we are there as we have to go out Sunday & get fresh salads anyways. (always gotta check out new stores for meat deals)
My dad just stopped by with a treat for the dogs. Guess they really are getting their fill this morning. I may have to skip tonights meal no matter what now. lol

That is wonderful that everyones dogs are doning well. Hopefully the detoxing will stop soon. Indy's coat looks gorgeous and shiny. Sarah i had to cover the screen from Clover when i scrolled down past the Labbies dinners ;).
Last night the kids had chicken wings (Bought a kilo of mixed chicken portions and they were all wings  ), they also had a little bit of beef mince and some yogurt. Tonight they will probably have chicken again tonight, i need to pick it up before trainng in the morning (3 whole chickens for $10 woohoo). Hopefully the meat wholesaler will have some sales on so i can stock up for the coming weeks.
ETA: Clover used to be my "fat dog" she is now the best built out of the lot of them, her muscle mass has increased, and she does not have an ounce of flab on her anymore. I am so happy with how she is doing, her energy level is up aswell. And i hope i am adding a few extra years onto her life.
Ok, so Roxy likes her meat frozen, strangely. At least she seemed to like it while I was out there. She had a chicken quarter. Lily is the opposite and likes her thawed, plus defrosted for about 2 min. I haven't switched Lily back to Raw yet, just Roxy for the moment. Eventually, they'll both be back on it, but for now just Roxy.
Today, Daisy ate canned mackerel which she loves, chopped bok choy, gala apple.
I was gone to San Francisco yesterday and today, up until now. They got pretty spoiled, because I thawed extra special things for them to keep them in a good mood while Mommy's gone. It didn't really work for Gonzo, he slept by the door all night and he's acting a little spazzy now that I'm home (like not wanting to leave me).
Gonzo (yesterday) ~ 1/4 of a duck (he loves duck, 100x more than chicken. wierdooo.) and a pig snout! He also got a frosty paw for dinner/dessert.
Fozzie (yesterda) ~ Duck leg, a chicken liver & a chicken heart with chicken muscle meat, and a frosty paw for dinner.
Gonzo (today) ~ Buffalo Farmore, and he will get some fruit puree for dinner. He's gnawing on a knuckle bone right now, he gets 10-15 minutes with that =0)
Fozzie ~ Lamb Shank for breakfast, some Farmore Buffalo for lunch, and he will get a frozen kibble-and-fruit-puree Kong later tonight.
Kay, I really like your frosty paws idea. We all know that Frosty Paws by Purina can get a little pricey and aren't exactly nutrionally balanced! I'll definitely make some of those, sounds very easy.
The girls had a chicken quarter for breakfast, Buck had beef brisket. They all had beef heart for dinner and Buck also had a chicken quarter.
The frosty paws flavors I made were: carrot, carob (carob powder and carob chips), peanut butter, tuna, and just plain yogurt.
Sarah, did you make the tuna ones out of regular canned tuna?
We have a ton of canned tuna and we rarely eat it.
Yep! They haven't had that flavor yet, but I know they'll love it. They love anything with fish :)
week 2 on raw and Snowy has started eating pork :)
I still give her chicken in the morning though
she seems to be enjoying chicken more
by the way, does everyone feed the meat thawed?
Snowy eats her meat frozen
I feed thawed usually but last night the boys had their llama half frozen. If I forget to thaw meat in time, I'd rather feed frozen meat than kibble. :pQuote:

I always freeze my meat for atleast a week or so before giving it to them - and I give it to them straight from the freezer. It makes them chew it more.
This morning Simba and Nala had a chicken leg each.
Kiara had carrot/banana puree and chicken nuggets.
I feed both ways. Usually boneless meat is frozen because they'll gulp it right up. Sometimes chicken is frozen because they eat it really fast. I try to thaw everything for Buck and Mandy because they pace themselves when they eat. Nova and Luka don't do that so sometimes they have the things I mentioned frozen.Quote:

Visa doesn't like her meat frozen -- it hurts her teeth. The only stuff she will eat frozen are Nature's Variety Prairie Medallions.
The Timberwolf dog food came yesterday. The fur kids LOVED it. It seems so much better than the Nutro. They had the Timberwolf for breakfast, tonight I'm going to try them on some raw chicken. Wish me luck. ;)

I heard the other day Nutro is now using soybean oil instead of sunflower oil to cut costs. :(
Yes, I think I will be feeding them the Timberwolf from now on. It is a little pricey, BUT the difference in the ingriedents compared to the Nutro are amazing. I wouldn't doubt Nutro is doing that. I was surprised to learn on the pit bull forum how many people think Nutro is crap. A lot of the people on that board feed raw also.Quote:

I've studied canine nutrition A LOT this year so far and in my opinion, Nutro is pretty low. However, it's A LOT better than a majority of dog owners feed.Quote:

It depends on the individual. For a while I was spending way more on raw (the food itself. I was still saving on vet bills!) Now that I can buy in bulk, it costs me a little over a dollar a day to feed two dogs. I also like to buy the more expensive things like elk, venison, llama, buffalo, rabbit, and such though.Quote:

Ok, that's what I thought. I *try* to buy the most amount of meat I can possibly afford for the time, and I get alot of things on sale, and so far I've found it much cheaper. 2 weeks worth of meat just cost about $15.
Oh, and Roxy's having another leg quarter in a few minutes :).
Kai and Kae had a chicken quarter for breakfast and goat and kelp for dinner. I offered a homemade frosty paw but they both turned it down.
Chester had a tilapia fish for breakfast and a turkey wing for dinner. He had some cranberries for a snack a while ago.
The kids had chicken hand fed to them quickly last night because i was running late for a friends Bday. I then gave them a small ammount of kibble when i got home at about 3am.
my 2 had chicken again tonight and a bit of veggie puree
I halved two 2lb whole Salmons for them this morning. I have pork ribs thawing for Buck for dinner.
Chicken Leg Quarter again..
Ki got a pork chop.
Simba and Nala got chicken legs.
Their "mush" for today consisted of:
apple
squash
garlic powder
2 eggs w/shell
milk
The boys had lamb and tripe for breakfast today. For dinner they'll be getting beef, egg, kelp, flax seed and yogurt.
I didn't give Bailey any breakfast this morning, so he will be having a whole 6 pound chicken for dinner. He just had some pork ribs and a lamb chop for lunch.
They both got Farmore Beef for breakfast. Gonzo got a GIANT pork rib for lunch and Fozzie got 1/3 of a pork shoulder which was just muscle meat and fat. Fozzie also got a chicken neck (hand-fed) because the chicken I bought today had the neck unattached.
Fozzie will get a little bit of CN in his Kong tonight. Gonzo ate waaay too much, so he will just get veggies and a fruit Frosty Paw tomorrow.
I'm sooo making tuna Frosty Paws. I really hate the smell, though. :p
Those are beautiful pics of the Shelteez! :D
The kids had carrot mush, flaxseed/ livamol supps, pork rib and lamb scraps for dinner. They might get a dog cookie before bed in a minute ;).
I am making dog cookies today for them as training treats, i have liver and wholemeal flour so should be able to figure something out.
I have chicken thawing for them for dinner tonight.
The Labs had a chicken quarter for breakfast, Mandy had pork ribs. I have beef oxtail thawing for Buck for dinner.
Chicken Leg Quarter, the last of them, too..
