Well it's official...Graham has his cast and all the bandages completely removed! It's been on for 3 months so you can imagine his atrophy
He's not using the leg very often but I am trying to get him to use it as often as possible so he starts to gain muscle tone again. You can kind of see the scar on his leg, and you can see how streight it is, but it's not too close up so the scar is not so easy to see.
Thank you for asking about him :) I am so lucky to have you all as friends :)

The hair is starting to grow back, and the scar will eventually become un-noticable, but that leg will never bend again. I hate how permenant it is, but he seemes to be taking it pretty well. When he wants to move faster then a slow walk, he holds up that leg and runs on 3 legs. Although I can see that he wants to be able to run fast again, he seems to be taking his new disability pretty well.
Yay! Oh, Yay! Graham is free of the dreadful itchy-clunky thing! Good job, pretty boy, (and Mama) for putting up with all the hassle. We are very proud of you, and love you just as much, bendy leg or no! :)
I can't believe it has been three months! Graham, you are the most patient, tolerant boy. Your leg looks like it's healing well :) And in no time, and with a little exercise and continued use, your muscles will gain back their strength. And knowing your indominable, fighting spirit, I have every confidence you will not let this stop you from living life to it's fullest!!! You are as handsome as ever and a joy to behold without that cast! As a friend of ours would say...Graham, you da man!! :)
Precious Graham, we are so proud of your courage and zest for life! Congratulations on having that nasty old cast come off. You look so handsome and regal without it.
Leslie, please give Graham a hug and a kiss on those precious hairy lips for me. We are glad he is doing better and know with his determination nothing will hold him down.
What a wonderful sight it is to see Graham without his cast!! :D I know you will worry until he's using that leg again, Leslie, but in time, he'll figure out that it is ok!! It took three long months for him to get used to it, and might take a while for him to readjust to being without it! But he'll do it, and all because you and Dan have been there for him all the way!!! :D Great job, all of you!!! :)
I bet he is one happy baby boy getting that cast off! He looks so sweet. I hope everything goes good for him this year.
Oh Leslie, I can't see the picture, it didn't come up but I'll bet he is one happy pup right now. It must feel so good to have that cast off. He was so brave all that time and patient. And hats off to you Leslie for doing everything in the world you could to help him, that's real dedication to one you love so much. Hugs and kisses to Graham from Miss Daisy, Perry and me.
That's great news!! Glad to hear it!!
I'm so pleased that Graham is doing better. Even though I have not posted much on the health and rescue topics recently I have been keeping him, and others in need of prayers, in my thoughts.
We can't adequately express how glad we are that this ordeal is almost over for Graham and his mommie and daddy. He is just the bestest boy ever and, Leslie, you know how much we all love him...bunches and bunches and bunches and bunches.
Graham dear:
we are so happy to know that the cast has come off :D :D :D We are sure that being the brave boy you are, and with your mom and dad tender loving care, you'll be in top shape soon. You may not be able to run a "Doggie Marathon" but you'll have many happy and playful days anyway. Love and hugs to you and congratulations to Leslie and Dan for everything they've done to make you healthy again.

Oh Dear Sweet Graham - so very happy to hear you're a wee be lighter nowadays - won't be long you'll be running along on all 4's like you should. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful, patient Mom and so very many friends. You deserve a complete recovery of which I know you will get ;)
I just signed on for five weeks of physical therapy for Graham. He will have a 1/2 hour session every Monday starting this coming Monday for five weeks. After the P.T. he should be showing alot of improvement hopefully. They also said that they would teach me how to massage and stretch his leg properly so that I can do p.t. at home between sessions. Hopefully I won't have to take him any longer then 5 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes. I have never even had P.T. myself so I have no idea how Graham will handle it. I just hope it does not hurt too bad, he's been through enough pain to last a lifetime!
I'm soooo glad to hear that Graham is cast-less now and will soon have his own private masseusse! What a lucky little man he is. I know he'll improve quickly and be thankful for your care! :)
I don't have a lot, but count me in. We could call it, "Graham's Get Well" fund. Louie and The Beans are pulling for you Graham!! Loves to you!
Leslie,
I am so happy that Graham will be getting p.t. !!!
After reading that you were going to do this with
Graham, I thought,"what a great idea".I been checking
out 'canine massage therapy' on a search to learn more
about it. It seems this a very old practice with horses
and is now extended to humans & canines. I've found
tons of info on this subject that I want to use for Buddy.
Some of the storys of treatment I've read so far, are
amazing for the improvement seen in dogs treated.
Thank you for posting about it b/c it has given me
new ideas to help Buddy with his quality of life issues.
Hugs and kisses to Sweet Graham from Buddy & Liz.
:D YEAH!! for Grambo and getting the cast off!!! He is one very lucky dog and you are a wonderful mother! I can't see the pics right now either but I'm sure he looks marvelous!!
Are you still having any trouble with the smell? My mother told me tonight about some stuff that is supposed to work fabulously on dogs to soothe their skin and makes them smell great. She's going to ask the woman who told her about it more tomorrow so I'll get back to you with the name.
Congrats to Graham!! Good luck with the PT!
Let us know how Graham will get along with the PT. If it's the same as with humans, it will start with some gentle exercises to get the muscle back in his leg and make Graham more confident in using it. At least that's how it worked with my father after he was bedridden for a long time. It's hard work but I'm sure it's going to be worth it.
Good Luck Graham be a good boy and do all your excercised - you will be back to your old self in no time!
The PT will be wonderful for Graham's body and mind!! You go SuperGraham! Love and kisses to our superpupsterpal!!
:o I'm thrilled that Graham has his cast off and is signed up for physical therapy. Kind of embrassed though, read the recent posts too quickly and missed what PT was for. TOTALLY BEWILDERED why he was being signed up for Pet Talk and how it would help him... :o
Once it was read thoroughly comprehension improved greatly.
Warm wishes to you all.
