We are in what is hopefully our last polar plunge of the year (but I'm not counting on it!).
Right now it is -5F; with the windchill it is -11F.
Tonight's low is -35F.
Yikes.

Now that we are BOTH retired - we need to get together one of these days. Just need to get my back taken care of first - then maybe we can plan something! :) I just saw on the Philly weather, that you could get 6-12 inches more snow on Monday. They are saying only 1-3 for us here - but ice and freezing rain before the snow. That will keep me grounded!
I'm visiting my sister in Saskatchewan right now. It's -43 out of the wind & with the windchill it's -59C!!!! That's -74F!!!:eek: I'm looking forward to returning to my arctic home where it is 45 degrees warmer!!!
OMG! :eek::eek::eek:
What is that like? How do people even survive it?
-16F sounds downright tropical in comparison.
From the Haiku thread:
It was down to just 1°F last night (which is -17 in Celcius), and going lower tonight, everything that "looks" like fluffy snow is frozen solid and crunchy underfoot! But there are rumors of it being maybe above freezing tomorrow afternoon ... maybe ...Quote:
Bright sun on old snow
Brilliantly cold, sharp enough
To cut exposed skin
Hi Ellie! When, and if, this crazy weather breaks I'd love to make some plans. The latest weather report says it's 12 degrees here now, they're predicting 8" to 12" by the time the snow stops late Monday afternoon, and more snow on Thursday but the weatherguys aren't saying how much. The way the snow keeps on coming, maybe we should start training for the Itidarod.
Honestly here & when we get these kinds of temps in the Yukon, life just goes on as normal. A cold snap in either place can last weeks! Less outdoor activities, but my nieces caught the bus to school yesterday;my brother-in-law went to work(he works in the oil patch so outside!). I took the little girls to the swimming pool & out for lunch, met my oldest niece for a drink last night! It's -40 today & I'm helping one of my nieces move! I did have to borrow a gas truck, cuz my Dad's diesel truck was struggling to keep running! The diesel gels up in this kind of cold!
Absolutely - we'll get together in more predictable weather - and after my back surgery on 3/24 - then 6-8 weeks "mending". Late May or early June is usually nice weather in our neck of the woods - before I have to hibernate in the house with the a.c. on. :p
And that 1-3 inches of snow we were supposed to get here Sunday night/Monday, has now been updated to 6-10. Wonder what they'll be saying tomorrow - 10-15????? Don't ya just love these weather forecasters???? - every one says something different. We'll see how much snow we get, when it actually falls.
ETA: Didn't I tell you, Eileen??? The 6 o'clock news on Channel 6/Phila, is now saying 10-14 for south Jersey and all of DE. Seriously - I doubt we'll get anywhere near that amount..................
Awww, Pom, you're getting my snow! Now they are saying I might only get a dusting after all this hype. Sorry - send it my way - I *like* shoveling!
As I write this, it is MINUS 6.2°F. 24 hours ago, it was just zero.
When does the ground hog come out?
Yup - I called that shot again. I said our predicted 10-14 wouldn't happen, and we got about 4 or 5 at best. The roads were still solid ice under that tho, since it had rained and then froze before it started snowing. Kids finally went back to school today. As many weather related days that this district has closed schools for, these poor kids will be making up days clear into July!
Pretty good. It was in the 20s F and sunny today. It's supposed to be in the mid 30s tomorrow but possibility of rain or freezing rain.
It is a heat wave here, 34 degrees & cloudy. Rain & sleet are on the way though. Will have to put my ice skates on to get around to do the chores this evening.
Our glacier...er...snow pack is 5 weeks and counting. I don't remember a snow pack lasting this long. It's basically morphed into two distinct strata since we had ice after two snow storms. Temp wise: about 40 F today, reaching 50 by the weekend.
44 F in Chicago this afternoon :) It's supposed to be 30 or warmer for the next 3-4 days, works for me!
54 degrees F and sunny today in Indy. Played in the yard with the pups today. Yesterday was nice too. I'm liking this.:D
It's 45F today and the sun is out, but it's supposed to rain and/or snow overnight. I'm glad the weather is better!
Yes, above freezing — 35°F now here! And even warmer, maybe 45° tomorrow is predicted.
Freezing temps have been such a hassle down here, mainly because of our outside plants. Fortunately temps are trending upward in past week or so, maybe it's over for us. Dogs (Yorkies) didn't mind a bit, save for my rescue Navi (a Chi w/short hair) lots of shivering, but reason enough for more cuddling with her. I'm SO anxious for warmer weather.
Around here it's not nearly cold enough, 35 degrees. Not only that, we got cheated out of a snowstorm that promised somewhere around 6" but we barely got a dusting. A major disappointment to say the least! I'm hoping for another arctic blast that will permanently scare spring away - UGH! Many people get seasonal depression in the winter. I consistently get it in the spring and this has happened every spring for a lot of years, talked to my doctor about it but no physical cause was found.
It isn't cold at all here! In fact we even didn't have a "normal" winter....!
It only froze about 5 days (C°), and we didn't get a single bit of snow :(
The bad thing with this, is that almost no insects died, so I am afraid we will have much to many bugs this summer....!
Yesterday I saw a huge spider on the back porch....!
We have beautiful Spring weather now, with really lots of flowers in the garden, trees are getting new leaves, etc....!
It's -15C here right now (10:00 am) with a wind chill of -23C. That's +5F with a windchill of -10F.
We've had snow - in fact, we had a full day of snowfall and wind on the 20th! Spring? I think not! :D
However, March and even April can be punctuated with blizzards which are followed by melting days. Time to drive carefully and stock up on windshield washer fluid!
Would you believe 30F tonight. It was over 60 when we left church yesterday morning. It's supposed to only be in the low 40s tomorrow, more like mid-March than mid-April.
There are a few yellow flowers on the forsythia bush in front of my building, though!
Down to 18*F tonight and snow today! This after a sunny Sunday in the low 80's!
Here, in S.E. Michigan, we have set the record for most snow in a winter since they started keeping records!!
We have another cold snap inbound tonight, temps dropping like a stone this afternoon and light snow.
Yesterday way warm and so windy - 45 m.p.h. they predicted, I am sure some were even stronger. Today it is raining and 64, with a predicted halving of that, 32 and maybe some light snow this evening.
Rainy, chilly and windy. Gloomy day to match my mood. After temps in the upper 70's to low 80's for the past several days, wet snow and temps below freezing are forecast for overnight and tomorrow morning, and high's MIGHT make it to 50. Only 50's - 60's thru the rest of the week. :(
Em - if you see this - tomorrow - I promise. If I am functioning, that is. :(
Send some of that chill my way! It's over 80 here and my car's passenger window won't roll down....nor does it have working AC. :/
I was emailing a vendor in California today, and she also requested I send some of our abundant rain to her!
It is mea'nt to be Autumn in NZ, however it is not cold at all, the temps have been 27 degrees C lately, i cannot believe how warm it is, i am really a winter person and i am so over the warmth, we had a cold Jan though which is usually one of our hottest months, but by now it should be getting a lot cooler.
We have had some glorious sunshine as well, but easter has brought us some much needed rain and we even had a cyclone on thursday just before easter.
Weather is so strange, gosh if it keeps this up we will be like the gold coast australia soon, hoping not.,too hot for me.
A thunderstorm came through overnight with a cold front. 51F right now, cloudy and windy. They're saying low 40s overnight. Fall is definitely here.
Today was only 54°F at the highest - so "freezing!!!" in Paul's estimation! I am enjoying my first mug of hot tea for the season - that's really one of those signs of fall for me!
That, and that there are suddenly Chrysanthemums at the supermarket! I guess that's how city folks note the changing of the seasons!
Bye bye summer!:D High of 51*F today! I absolutely love fall!
It's 47F out tonight. They're predicting rain and wind with temps in the mid 40s tomorrow, but the wind might make it feel even colder. I remember Halloweens when I had to wear a heavy coat over my costume trick-or-treating.
The 40's today, but the wind makes it feel a lot colder. I'll take the colder weather over the hot and humid muck, but hate the wind with the cold and it makes me feel like a popsicle! Had a lot of that last winter - hope the wind isn't too bad this winter. Yesterday was miserable - cold, windy and rain all day - so stayed in the house and did a lot of nothing all day except eat and watch t.v. - when Wolfman and I weren't napping.;)
