Prayers for you both. :love:
Thinking of you and Max today, as everyday.
Prayers are being sent for you and Max.:love:
A candle will be lit for you and Max.....ASAP....
Hoping for a better day for Max--and for you--today.
Just want you to know I think of you and Max each and every day.
Hugs!!
More positive thoughts to Max from me, too. :love:
Hang in there, boy!
Hang on in there Max YOU CAN DO IT , and Slick don't give up hope just yet, you and I are on the same rollercoaster ride right now with our kitties, and believe it or not my Ash has bounced back today, he is not as smelly and eating well and improved , i can tell he is feeling better.
Max may well bounce back yet, fingers and all paws crossed that he will, thinking of you daily and hoping for the best.
Max has been eating OK but tonight I came home to a big blob of diarrhea in the corner of the living room right behind a huge plant that I have. I never would have seen it if I hadn't of moved the plant to water it. Funny that I didn't smell it either.
He's not eating as much either and he won't touch any treats. At night he sleeps behind the bed and in the daytime when I leave for work, he's behind the bed and doesn't come out to see me off. When I get home from work he comes out from behind the bed (I assume he's been there all day) and talks to me, wanting wet food.
We have a whitecoat appointment on Saturday at 10:30. I'm not sure about blood work, but for sure I want an xray on his right hip. He favours that leg and hobbles on it.
He no longer is lap fungus and neither does he lay under the tree anymore. I guess the novelty has worn off. All he wants to do is get behind the bed - which isn't an entirely bad thing. Each time he crawls out of there he brings me more presents of dust bunnies. Who needs a house cleaner???
Mary (Medusa): Max loves a little bowl with ice water in it. Reminds me of you and dear Puddy, although Max doesn't have anything wrong with his tongue, but he does like to lick the ice cubes.
I'm sorry to hear that he had diarrhea and that he's still hiding behind the bed.:( I hope that everything will go well at the vet tomorrow. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way.
Oh Max, sweet boy, I'm so sorry that you still have the sickies. I want so much for you to feel better and go back to being your old self again. We'll just have to pump up the volume on the prayers, that's all there is to it. I'm sure Mom could use a good dose of it, too. In the meantime, lick your ice cubes, clean under the bed for Mom and know that the two of you are always in my thoughts and prayers every single day. (((HUGS))) to Mom and soft, gentle pets to you, Max. :love:
Prayers on the way for you and Sir Max both! Off to light another candle. :love:
Just thinking of you and precious Max. Hope the vet was able to help you both feel better. :love:
I hope I will get to talk to you later today. I am off to light some candles for you and Max:love:
Prayers for you and Max.:love::love::love:
Prayers flying from me for you both! :love:
I am sending prayers for both Max and Slick up to The Big Guy.:love:
Saying prayers every day. Came today to check for an update after the vet yesterday. Hoping and praying the vet had a good solution to Max's issues.
Prayers continue....
Slick, I hope that everything went well yesterday. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent Max's way. Please take care. (((HUGS)))

I hope all is OK with Max, and you! Slow down and try get some cuddle time in - if he will allow it. :love: :love:
Sending lots of good thoughts.
I had a busy weekend both days and when I was home I spent every possible moment with my baby. Max is still with me but for how long I don't know. Forgive me Gini, I just didn't/don't feel like talking....:(:(
Sorry this is so short but I'm at work. Will update at the end of today before I leave to go home.
I am just relieved to hear from you and I fully understand!
You know that you and Max are dearly loved, dear friend.:love:
And I know that holds true for all Pet Talkers too.:love:
Yes, dear friend, we all understand what you are going through right now. This is the hard part of loving an animal. Another candle has been lit for Max and you. Prayers will continue for you both. :love::love:
I know only too well how you are feeling right now. I am typing this through tears.
Hugs to you and Max.
I know how you feel as Bo Bo got weaker and weaker , and My Vet said that there was nothing he could do except to prescribe medications to help her.
Its so sad and depressing watching an old Friend slowly getting older and knowing thats theres nothing you can do,
Prayers are coming for You and Max from All Of Us at The Found Cat Hotel, and Moose the MagnfiCat is with Max to help comfort an Old Friend.
:love::love::love:
I am sending more prayers for both you and Max. Feel better soon!:love:
I have a few minutes now for an complete update.
First of all, thank you for all your prayers and candles. I know that there are a few other kitties on board here who need many more candles so I appreciate you taking the time to say a word for my Max.
I took him in mainly because he was/is hobbling on his back legs and he looked like he might be in pain.
Max has lost more weight. He weighs just under 5 lbs now. When Dr. Singh first felt his back end, he mentioned that he could feel some major swelling in both his knees and he made me feel it too. It felt like a hard lump on both sides. Anyway Dr. Singh said it could perhaps be a tumor (cancer of the bone) - that alone scared me silly. He said I would have to leave Max there for a few hours while the xrays were taken. Max had to be sedated to get the xray taken, then another injection to wake him up. I didn't ask for blood tests because I already know that it would come back as CRF. When I showed up to collect him a couple of hours later Dr. Singh showed me the xray. Good news is no tumor - bad news is very extreme arthritis and Max has been in pain for a while now. :( I'm beating myself up about this. I've noticed it but didn't take him in right away.:(:(
So what do we do about it? Max received a steroid shot (I have the name of it at home - it's not cortisone) and he needs to get another shot once a week for the next 4 weeks and if it helps, then he will receive an injection once a month. In addition, I am to increase the Metacam to 4 drops in his wet food every day. Needless to say Max's savings account and my chequing account are depleted right now. Thank goodness for a great line of credit.
When Max came home, he dived into his dry food and that was good to see, but at night he only eats 1/2 of what he used to.:(
We have a routine in the evenings now. Now that it is cold outside, I wear my big fluffy LL Bean housecoat that is now two sizes too big. I wrap it around me and when I'm finished my evening chores (sounds like I'm on a farm :rolleyes:) and Max has had a couple of helpings of wet food, I sit down on the couch and Max comes to sit on my lap. He hasn't done that for a while now but last night he decided to see of my lap was just as cozy. He stayed there quietly napping for a couple of hours. I dared not move. I had the remote beside me and I had already peed (:D) so we both were comfortable. I snuggled him and told him that I wanted him to tell me when he is ready to go. I said that I would be there until the end and that I'm counting on him staying with me through the Christmas season. I told him how much I loved him and that I was very sorry that I didn't take him in before then. I was crying buckets of tears and it's so hard to fathom that indeed, this is more than likely his last Christmas with me. LES :(:(
He still spends most of his time behind the bed. He sleeps there at night and in the morning when I get up he's still there and doesn't come out until his dinner bell goes off around 6pm. He retreats back behind the bed usually around 10pm. When he's out in the evening I put out another bowl of ice water and he loves to lick the ice cubes.
Also, every time I leave the house I have to close the en suite bathroom door. I have a soaker tub with high sides and he can jump in, but can't jump back out again so he's stuck. After my shower this morning I watched him struggle to get in (I helped him) and he was licking up the water.
So that's the news and to all my friends who have tried to contact me, please accept my apology. Those of you know know me best, know that I "shut down" at a time like this. I'm sorry but that's just me.
:love::love:
Edit: forgot to add that Max has had the runs everyday for the last 4 days and he never makes the litterbox. He leaves presents for me in his selected corner - whichever corner he picks for that day. I think this is something that I'll have to put up with from now on.
Edit: I'm at home and the name of the injection is Cartrophen. I'll have to google that.
Poor Max. Arthritis is hard to deal with. The cold weather is probably making it worse right now too. I know it does mine. Cats are good at hiding pain. Leonardo had arthritis too and I didn't know until the very end, how bad it was. He never let on he was in any pain.
Prayers and candles will continue for you both. We are here if you need us. :love::love:
Prayers that the metacam and the shot will ease his pain...perhaps make it easier for him to reach his litterbox.
Wonder if it would help to have an extra one around somewhere.
HUGS to you, Vicki...please give Max many gentle lovings from me. :love::love::love:
Slick, You probably already know this but animals, especially cats, hide their pain very well. I sure hope that the shots and Metacam will help make Max more comfortable. Cherish all of the time that you have with him. I'm sure he'll let you know when it's time to let him go. It's so hard watching our furkids get older. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
Yes try not to beat yourself up about it, easier said than done, but as everyone has said cats are very good at hiding their pain, also unlike us humans they don't think about it.
A good idea would be to get a kitty electric blanket if you can, i have two of them, and they are great for cats with arthritis, being a sufferer myself i know that warmth is a top priority and is really helpful.
I am really sorry to read about Max,enjoy your boy as much as possible while he is still with you,now he had meds I am sure he will be much happier.
Love and Hugs to you both.
That Cartrophen shot is what gave me more time with Sasha my dogger. Without it I would have lost her much sooner. It is wonderful stuff. Love up that Max boy as much as you can. And give him a little kiss from me.
Dearest Vickie, my heart is heavy for you and your dear boy. :( Prayers continuing and sending much, much love out to you both. {{hugs}}
Vickie, now it's my turn to remind you not to beat yourself up over Max as you did w/me and Yodie. We would never purposely neglect or harm our beloved furkids in any way but sometimes we just overlook things; overlook, not refuse to see; there's a big difference. Max knows how much your love him or he wouldn't want his snuggle time w/you; otherwise, he'd avoid you like the plague.
Max's story does remind me so much of what I experienced w/Puddy, especially the ice cubes and wanting to be in the tub. I bought little steps for Puddy so that she could get into the sink, which is where she wanted to be first before the tub, but she had the same problem as Max: she could get in but not out. If Max does have burning tongue syndrome as Puddy did, the ice cubes will be a big help plus she loved Fudgsicles! And I loved holding them for her and watching her slurp them up so you might try something like that w/Max. There isn't enough chocolate in them to do him any harm. Or maybe popsicles.
This is such a precious time, Vickie. We don't want them to suffer and yet we want to have them w/us for as long as possible. It's an honor to make the journey w/them even though we must leave them at the gate to the Bridge. Hopefully, you won't have to make the decision as to when that will be; Max may make it on his own but you'll be there w/him, I know. Enjoy every precious moment and know that the Fur Posse and I and all of PT are w/you, praying every step of the way. (((HUGS))) and scritchies. :love: :)
P.S. There's no shame in wanting to be alone and sort of shutting down during this time. I'm the same way. There's no offense meant or taken. Everyone is different and we all respect that.
I wish that I could take your pain and Max's away from you. :love:
Slick, first of all, don't beat yourself up about finding out Max has arthritis, you know how good cats are hiding pain. I really hope the Cartrophen will help him feel better - from what QoP says, it sounds promising. :)
I loved to hear he's back snuggling with you in the evenings, that must feel so good! :love:
I was thinking... do you know about those flat pillows you can put in the microwave? They keep the heat for hours. Perhaps you could get one of those he could lay on when you're out. It might help the pain. :)
Will e-mail you later.
((((hugs))) and gente scritches to Max. :love:
That sounds like a really good idea; warmth helps so much.
I'm so sorry about the journey you're taking with Max; many of us have done it and it rips your heart out. The tub reminded me of my own journey with my RB kitty Jamara; up to her last day, she got up on the counter in our bathroom to get water from the faucet. That memory is very tough for me.
Our hearts are with you, no matter whether you can respond or not, this community of people (and pets) will be there in spirit taking that journey with you and Max. Give Max a kiss for me, hugs to you, treasure this time with Max and know we're there.:love:
