She just stopped eating it? Thats odd.Quote:

She ate it for the first few days, and then she would barely knibble on it? I guess maybe she wants more variety..? Well, Roxy didn't like it..Quote:

Indy's still working on her chicken from 2 days ago. She was eating it without the skin but I am not giving into her anymore, trying to get her to eat it with the skin.
The rest of the dogs had chicken, some chicken liver & hearts sat am & pm
Sunday am they had pigs feet & eggs
last night 7 this am they had beef
Chicken is on the menu for tonight again
Chester had a turkey wing for breakfast, since that's all he has left in his freezer. I have to go out today and get more food for him.
one of them would be me :D Snowy has learnt to eat raw chicken now, she seems to enjoy it.Quote:

Tonight they are having:
Chicken breasts
Chicken Legs (for Simba & Nala)
Carrots
Celery
Peppers
Banana
Yogurt
Egg w/shell
And they got a banana/yogurt frosty paw with Greenie Lil Bits on top. ;)
The pups have been getting chicken quarters for the past few days cause I've been way too lazy to give anything else. Today they're having:
-eggs
-ground flax seed
-kelp
-turkey heart
-turkey
They also had pieces of chicken backs while I was bagging it for their freezer.
Well, I got home and swam with the dogs last night then went straight up to bed and they never got their dinner :o So they had the lamb shanks this morning. I have ribs thawing for Bucky Blue for dinner. They'll all have some chicken liver and I have chicken feet thawing for the girls.
Visa is in Alberta...and she is getting....KIBBLE! I can imagine it now, she's going to be looking at her dish, thinking "what the HELL is this?!"
Elvis and Tinny had beef, chicken necks, egg (W/ shell) and their supplements for dinner. Clover had about a half of chicken, egg (W/ shell) and supplements.
Stopped by the store on my way home from work last night for some human food & found a great deal on turkey drumsticks so thats what they had last night & this morning.
Tonights meal is unkown at this time.
It's been almost a month since mine have been having 1 raw meal a day.
They are doing very well on it. Weird thing is, Kiara - the dog who ate 12 large rawhide candy canes, a big bag of Halloween candy, and everything else imaginable - WITHOUT getting sick - throws up her egg shell & when she gets bones.
Wierd or what?
She finally ate her egg shell last night (I burried it in her chicken/veggie mush.) She chewed it but when I got home there was a little pile of broken up egg shell (I'm assuming whatever liquid came with it was dried already.)
I figured she'd do the best on this diet since she seems to have a stomach of steal.
I think Simba is enjoying it the most. :) He LOVES his raw chicken legs and gets so excited when it's time to eat. He usually takes the leg out of his bowl and leaves the rest until he's done with his chicken.
Kay, may I ask which brand of the Timberwolf you feed the fur kids? I have some on order, I'm so excited to try it. The food sounds really good. I ordered my kids the one with elk in it. I think once it gets here I will try feeding them the Timberwolf for breakfast, then the raw at night. Are you still doing that?

I REALLY like TimberWolf. My three are getting the Ocean Blue formula. :) I'm lucky enough to have 2-3 different places nearby who supply it.
I have just recently switched back to an all raw fed diet. But even when I was feeding kibble for a little while there they would get a raw meal at least every 3ish days or so but usually it was at least once every day or two.Quote:

Even so there are still things that improved with them and everyone's stools are smaller, a lot smaller!!!
Raustyk:
She's the rescued 8 y/o rott with many health problems as well as joint/ligament problems. History unkown, probably a very bad BYB.
Her teeth are getting cleaner yet & her breath is a lot better. Her teeth have always been bad, they were terrible when I adopted her at 6 months of age & even after being clean, if I slack on teeth cleaning in any way they get dirty/tartery/smelly super fast. With raw her teeth are so good that there is no need for ME to clean her teeth.
She seems to be having less joint pain.
Her anal glands are not bothering her at all. They used to be terrible, very bad for a few years. As I introduced better premium foods and raw there was no need for me to physically express them anymore but she still would have to "work" a little bit at getting them emptied on her own.
She is going through some detox though I won't lie. Thankfully most of it is just about over already. Her coat is a little dry and she shedded like crazy but it's starting to come in shiny, soft & smooth. Her skin became falky but that has stopped. Her eyes were a little runny for a couple days, but again that has stopped as well. Not sure if it makes a difference but she has always had eye, skin & coat issues.
Nanook:
Keep in mind he is almost 16 y/o with many major health problems & mobility issues. Shep/husy/? mix. Also a rescue with history unkown other than he was shot with 50 birdshots before I got him & most are still lodged in him.
His breath has improved a lot! He has always had awesome teeth (he's also always had more bones than everyone else)!
His skin & coat is slowly improving. I don't seem to have to groom his as often as I did so far.
Seems a little more alert and it seems as if his vision is improving a little bit.
Kaige:
1 y/o Aussie, from reputable breeder
His coat is softer & seems to have filled out nicely. Not sure if this is due to his age.
His teeth are staying totally bleach white naturally.
It seems to me that his energy level is better. It's like he's not as ancy like a kid when they drink a soda.
He also is going through a bit of a detox, just one symptom though. His eyes produce a little more eye gunk.
Indy:
b/f's dog, almost 4 y/o lab mix.
She is having a hard time eating the chicken so she's skipped a couple meals & had a few smaller meals. Sure she gets other meats and eats full meals, we are just trying to get her to eat chicken. We are not going to let her starve.
Her coat is getting softer & even shinier and she's shedding less.
She too has been going through detox, just like Kaige though it's only the little bit of extra gunk in her eyes. It's starting to improve.
Me:
Did I mention that their stools are a LOT smaller?!
I enjoy watching them eat.
I feel better knowing my dogs are healthier!
I don't know what the heck to do with all the kibble that I have. :p

If it's one with a longer shelf life - store it somewhere safe. You never know when your power may fail and your meats will rot/expire.
I'll always have kibble on hand just incase - not that I WANT them - hurricanes come to visit me.
If it doesn't have a long shelf life, donate it to the local shelter? If it's opened and they won't take it - donate it to a friend?

Then there's about 20-30lbs (opened, dumped in their food bin, no bag) of Nutro large breed senior mixed with a little bit of CSFTDLS senior (might also be a large breed formula).
Was going to donate it but they won't accept if it has no bag. They take open bags though. I use their food bins as a shelf too so so far I've just kept it in the bin waiting for (A)I find someone/someplace that wants it (B)I use it or (C)it goes bad. lol
They had a light dinner today.
Ki:
Chicken breast nuggets
Frozen carrot/tomato puree
Simba:
Chicken leg
Nala:
Chicken leg
& some breast nuggets
Kay, many dogs don't like eggshells. My dogs happen to think they are yummy crunchie treats but only when I feed them to them seperately. If I just put eggshells in their food they will eat around them. I know several people that feed raw will bake the eggshells and then grind them into a powder with something like a coffee grinder. That may work better for you. :)Quote:

Gonzo & Fozzie got Farmore Buffalo, veggies, yogurt, and some rice. They both got to chew on a knuckle bone for a little while too :)
Chester had a fish (tilapia) for breakfast, and 2 chicken legs and some veggies for dinner.
This was their dinner last night:

Jack Mackerel
Sweet Potatoes
Carrots
Cottage Cheese
Eggs w/ shells
Raustyk didn't want hers for some reason. Not sure if she was self regulating or if she didn't like the sweet potatoes. She's had everything before except the sweet potatoes but then again she's usually a chow hound so who knows. Guess only time will tell.
So this is who took over her meal:
http://nanryk.zoto.com/img/45/672ec0...a7ffc5cc8-.jpg
Tiki, he loved it (of course, he likes everything, I should of called him Mikey)

I have put the egg in the processor before, I might just do that for Ki & Simba.
Nala LOVES them and has no problem digesting them. She thinks they're potato chips.
I just made my three some more "frosty paws." There's about 25 of them in my freezer. I'm going to give them as their daily veggie/fruits/yogurt - they love 'em especially since it's so hot outside. This batch will last me about a week.
The ones I just made had:
apple
celery
carrot
oats
a tad bit of milk
and a half spoonful of peanut butter
Everyone got an egg and chicken liver. Buck got half a chicken. The girls got some pork ribs.
Last night for dinner they each had a chicken quarter, some raw goop (mix of chicken, turkey (all with bones), beef, eggs & shells, I make up large batches for the ferrets) and a little bit of noodles (cleaned out my fridge).
This morning they had half of a pigs leg each.
Tonight will be chicken again.
Went to the store today and saw VEAL neckbones for 2.59/lb! Veal has always been 14.99/lb where I've seen it. I suppose it's because it was neckbones, and it was still more than I like to pay, but hey, variety is the spice of life! ;) So they had those a minute ago and also had a Dogster (like Frosty Paws but with less additives) and they loved the Dogster! We bought some yogurt and stuff so we could make our own Frosty Paws. I think it's a good treat for the hot summer! :)
Not sure what they're going to have for dinner yet.
*misses feeding Raw* I'm going to finish up Roxy's kibble and tomorrow I'll see if I can get her to eat the meat. It's really outdated though.. Is that okay?
As long as it has been frozen outdated meat is ok to feed to dogs, provided it is not extremely spoiled & the like.Quote:

As long as it's been frozen and it's eaten within a few days after being thawed (or eaten frozen.)
Sarah, my three are LOVING their home-made frosty paws!
Grrr.. I need to find a nice meat market.
Yes it's okay.
Don't switch her back to kibble if she doesn't eat. If you do this will never work and you'll be creating a picky dog. If she doesn't want it, put it back in the fridge for later. Do this for three-four days. If after four days she isn't eating, try another meat, she may just not like chicken. But you can't play the game where if she isn't eating, you feed kibble. Kibble is addictive to dogs - it is full of "yummy" carbs and is sprayed with fat or something to make it smell good. To dogs, kibble is sometimes more appetizing than raw.
Also, don't keep switching from raw to kibble back and back to raw. Find what you can stick with. You're really going to upset their tummies one day. By the way, it's okay to feed mostly chicken while money is tight. Feed whatever you can get for the least amount of money. Or feed kibble, but don't keep switching. :)
Like it was best sell by June 17 (we bought it a day before that)Quote:

What are you putting in them besides yogurt? We were thinking banana, peanut butter, canned pumpkin ... stuff like that.Quote:

Basically anything other than meat, I mix it up and put them in cups as frost paws. :p
I've been cutting them out of the cups and putting it into their bowls, or giving it to them in the cups to lick out. It takes them more time to eat it in the cups, so that's a plus. If it's out of the cup they just bite right into it and it makes me cringe! (My teeth are very cold sensitive.)
Roxyluvsme,
Rinse it off. ;) You don't even have to do that really. Simba's eaten twigs, dirt, etc with his meat because he seems to think he HAS to eat it in the grass and won't eat it on the patio. Silly dog.
I never thought of rinsing it off :o
I'm going to have to try some frosty paws.. But we dont have any banana or a blender..
Uhhh.. I forgot all of what I just gave them but it went something like this..
Chicken
Egg with shell
carrots
bananas
capsicums
garlic powder
celery
yogurt
and Simba took a nice healthy poop afterwards. ;)
Bri, I dont have a blender anymore either, when I made the frosty paws I mixed it all up with the electric mixer, it worked great. :)Quote:

Trout filet, pork tail, egg, and veal liver for all of them. Buck also got a chicken quarter and Nova and Mandy also got three chicken feet each.
Thanks! I also was thinking making a carob flavored one. They've loved the carob flavored treats I've made before, so I think it'll be a winner :)Quote:
