:( What I feel right now and want to say I would so much prefer to say in person. Oh how I wish I could see you and hug you. You can and will deal with this and you and Speckles will be the better for it. I love you my dear friend, hang in there ~
Poor Speckles. Now you can love on her and spoil her at home. Good luck with the fluids and pills.
Slick, I'm so glad you've got speckles home with you, but sorry to hear the news wasn't better. I so hope the fluids will help her perk up, and she'll be able to walk around a bit.
I'll keep sending positive thoughts to Speckles and you, and Fister is sending gentle headbumpies. Now, go and shower her with kisses! :)
Good luck giving her the fluids!
Big (((((hugs)))))
In the middle of the night I heard Specks trying to jump on the stepstool beside the bed and stumble. So I lifted her up there and we all promptly fell asleep. I've rigged up the fluids in the spare bedroom and put a soft blanket on top of the freezer. Just finished giving her morning dose and it's very obvious that my baby girl is truly not well. She didn't flinch at all. The first time I put in the needle it was not far enough in and the fluids started spreading on her fur. So I reinserted it in a different place then started the flow. Everything seemed to go OK and the bag went down by 100 CC's but she didn't get that lump on the back of her neck like I was told she would have. The blanket was not wet and neither was her fur so I'm assuming that it was done correctly. Tonight my friend Elizabeth is coming over and she'll help me out. Oh yeah, when I took the needle out I jabbed it in my finger.... so I guess that one will be replaced right away.
Debbie, the kidney med she is on does contain Potassium so I hope that she will improve on that.
Today I have to play Santa for the Humane Society so I will keep her in her own room separated so I can monitor her input and output. Looking at her right now....she really looks like she's on death's door and this is just killing me. As I've said to others in an email....my heart has never felt such pain before.
Prayers continue to be said for you and Speckles that she can perk up abit and remain comfortable for a while yet. And by the way, the few times I've been hopitalized, it does take a couple days to get the strength in my legs back again - they just get used to doin' nothing.
Slick, I am praying that now Speckles is back home with you that she may perk up after the meds have a chance to take hold.
Each day will be very special and I know that she is aware of all that you are trying to do for her.
I think Karen is right - being cramped in a cage probably has made her legs a bit stiff.
Giant hugs being sent your way.
xxoo
My legs and hips get stiff whenever I sit for very long! Poor Speckles. You are a saint to take such loving care of her.....
(((HUGS and PRAYERS))) for you both!
Just checking in today...
Your ordeal sounds similar to what we went through with Tinker. We had to give her fluids twice a day, alternating between the left and right shoulder (they told us we could insert the needle in the scruff behind her "elbows"). I couldn't do the needle-in-skin insertion (feeling it go through the skin freaks me out) so I admire you 10x over for doing this task by yourself.
I sincerely hope that Speckles is doing better with each passing minute.
Slick, know that we're praying for you and your furry girl.
{{hugs}}
So glad to hear that Speckles is home with you, but sad to hear the prognosis isn't better. I pray that you will still have much more time with her.
Oh Slick...
I'm so so sorry to hear Speckles isn't well and that I didn't see this sooner. Know that you and Specks are in my thoughts and prayers and if you need to talk let me know and I'll give you my number. Take care... (((( HUGS ))))
I'm glad she's getting the potassium. I know when we first brought Tubby home, it was a day or two before we saw significant improvement. Hopefully you'll see a little improvement by the time you get home this evening, then a little more tomorrow morning and so on.
I'm glad you all got to snuggle last night. I bet that's the best night's sleep you've gotten this week. <weak smile>
I know exactly how heavy your heart is, and I can't imagine having to go play Santa all day when dealing with this, but, it will be a good diversion for you and it will give
Speckles time to reaclimate to being home.
Somehow you will find the strength to endure this....because you have to. Speckles knows you are doing the best you can for her, and I know she knows you love her and will do whatever is right for her. Hang in there sweetie..... :(
I just saw this thread and got caught up on all the postings etc. I'm so sorry your having to go through this with Speckles. Keeping good thoughts and prayers that the IV fluids and medicines get things changed around and make Speckles more comfortable. It is so hard to see our furry babies so sick.
{{Just checking in on our patient and her dearest mommy.}}
