I hope that today is a better day for you and Speckles. more hugs and prayers on the way.
Thanks everyone. I had a very restless sleep last night...besides, I was up late chatting on the phone. ;) ♥♥♥ to you Gini and thanks again for everything. Yes, I do have a very positive attitude today and with the help of local friends I know that I can get over the fear of giving the fluids. I was planning on hitting the shopping mall early but I'm slow getting started today. {{{hugs}}} to everyone. Randi, I do hope you are feeling better and I'll try to call you later.
Slick it's good to hear that you have friends helping out close by. Filou goes to see the vet weekly for sub-qs now and I am already afraid of the moment in which he will need them more often. We can't take him to the vet twice a week (it is heartbreaking to see how each week he tries to find a new hidey hole) and I cannot do it myself :(
All the best for you and Speckles girl.
OK, this is nothing but torture. I was told the blood test results would be in early this afternoon. I just called there and now they won't be in until tonight - which means anytime after 6pm as the vet is open until 8pm. :( **sigh** I just can't wait to get my baby girl back home again where she belongs.
Oh Slick, I am just seeing this now. I just finished reading all the posts and talk about LES.
I am so sorry to hear that your dear Speckles isn't doing too well, but I pray with all my might that with the fluids and medications that you will have her to love for years to come.
What a relief to know that you have such dear friends to help you out.
Sweet kisses to Speckles and major ((((((HUGS)))))) for you.
After 6:00 pm.....Pacific time?!!?? Does the vet realize that is after 8:00 pm Central time? How am I supposed to wait that long - hrumph!
I say go get her now. The results of the test do not determine whether she comes home or not, just what action needs to be taken once she's home. So go get her now and he can call you later with the results!
Sheesh, doesn't he know we've all been on pins and needles ALL day waiting for these test results?
I'm leaving work now. Will try to check in later once we're settled in the local Wal-Mart parking lot.....
Praying prayers and singing songs for Speckles.
You think THAT is bad?!?! I have to wait until after 9!! And I'll probably be in bed before any new even gets here. :(Quote:

But I'll be praying the whole time.
My baby girl is finally home and I couldn't be happier. She doesn't look good. :( The vet closes at 8pm and by 7:15 I had not received a phone call so I marched on down there. Here's the scoop.
Her numbers were down but not significantly. She has been on IV fluids to flush out the kidneys and today, because she had not had a BM, she had a kitty enema which worked like a charm. The prognosis is not good....he gives her 2 months at the most. :( :( I asked about the stones and he said there really is nothing we can do at this point. I then asked if the stones will eventually cause her pain and he said yes and at that point I should consider putting her to sleep.
I have to give her sub-q fluids (100 CC twice a day) and I was shown how to do it. I had no trouble putting in the needle and she was still for it so I hope that continues. I just have to figure out where I'm going to hang the bag. She is also on 2 other medications, one for the kidneys and one for the infection in her mouth which is getting better.
Now, here's what I'm worried about. She can hardly walk and her hind end is really wobbly and I'm hoping it's because she has been in a cage and not walking around since Tuesday. Right now, she has stumbled into the litterbox had a big pee, then laid down in the LB. After a few minutes, she hopped out took a few steps, then fell down. :( :(
Question: how often should I change the needle for the fluids????
For now, she will be spoiled everyday and showered with kisses. Please continue your prayers and good thoughts. Thank you.
♥♥♥
{{{{HUGS}}}} I am truly sorry to hear this! I know she will be much loved and very spoiled the next few months. Give her a kiss from me.
Big hug for you and speckles. I'm glad shes home and you can let a tiny bit of worry fly away.
I'm so glad your girl is home with you. I'll be praying that she improves.
I sure hope Speckles can improve now that she is home. It is so distressing to think she is uncomfortable. :(
As for the needle, my vet specifically told me that THEY would change the needle every time, BUT since I would be using it for only the same cat each time to go ahead and use it twice or three times, but after that it might be dull which would cause more pain upon insertion.
I'm so glad she's finally home, but sad that the news wasn't better.
My vet told me to use a new needle each time, but what Jen said sounds good too. As for hanging the bag, what we did was put Tubby on the kitchen table, then hung the bag from the light fixture over the table. Worked like a charm.
As for the stumbling, as your vet for some potassium pills. I know, it's another pill, but my vet told me that when their kidneys are bad, their potassium levels go way down, which makes them weak. What you're describing sounds exactly like what was happening to Tubby. Once we started him on the potassium pills, he improved immensely!
I hope and pray that she continues to tolerate the fluids well. Once Tubby started feeling better, he got all squirmy and one time jumped down, the needle came out and fluid went squirting everywhere. Now I can laugh about it, but at the time I was horrified!
I will also hope and pray that she lets you know it's time. I know it's hard to believe right now, but that will really put your mind at ease when it comes time. You've been given a chance to spoil her rotten and shower her with as much love as you can - a chance to say goodbye. It's almost like you've been given a chance to grieve for her while she's still here - which helps a lot - or at least it did in my case. Hopefully your time together will be longer rather than shorter. More big {{{hugs}}} coming to you and sweet smoochies to Speckles.
Don't forget to ask about the potassium.
I would recommend a new needle everytime you are giving the fluids. This will cut down on the risk on infection and the potential for having a dull end.
I am so sorry to read about Speckles. I hope the potassium will help.
