Any uppydates?
Oh! I'm terribly sorry to hear this. It's really a tough time seeing our furbabes suffer.
Sending prayers your way x x x x
I've made a decision to NOT give any more fluids to Max. Words cannot describe how stressed out he was and promptly peed or pooped as soon as I put him on the counter. All during the treatment he drooled profusely and started trembling. He refused to eat after treatment. When I would come home from work he'd cower in the corner.
I just can't put him through this anymore. It will probably will shorten his life span, but at this stage of the game it's quality, not quantity.
At the moment he's eating good and his output is good and he's not in any discomfort. I'm just going to love him for as much time as he has left on earth.
All through this I'm constantly reminded of something that was posted by Susan when her beloved Sasha crossed the bridge and I'd like to quote her now. I believe she wrote this herself.
You brought me into your life
I am your pet. You wanted me!
How luck I am.
All I want to do is please you.
I love you totally:
no conditions
no constraints
no complaints
I do not judge
You brought me into your life
I am your pet - so please
Promise to
respect my species,
understand who I am and my limitations,
treat me well, with gentleness and caring,
take care of me, my health and well-being.
Promise to:
never abandon me,
never let me suffer,
love me forever.
If you truly love me,
As I love you -
Give me quality pet life;
And when it is time--let me go
Peacefully, painlessly, gently
For quantity of days has no value if I suffer.
Because I worship you--had I the power
you would never know pain, suffering or abandonment;
you would have life quality over life quantity--because
I'm your pet--and I love you now and forever

Slick, you are the only one of us in a position to try to judge what is best for Max, and I know you will give him the best life you can. Please can you give your boy a big huge hug from me? Well, I know that he is not so keen on them either, but maybe you can sneak one in.
I am sad to read your post, but really do understand....I have stopped fluids and some meds....any chance Max will like to have some chicken broth added to his food, so he can have some extra good tasting fluid....Will light a candle for you both.....Sandra
I totally understand - and you are doing what is totally right for Max.
As Sandra said - some yummy liquids might be just the ticket for dear Max.
{{{hugs}}} to you and that dear woolly kitty!:)
Everyone has to make their own decisions based on their pet and his/her needs and personality. No judgments here, that's for sure. I'm sad to read that the subQ's aren't going well but you've done your best. Your love for Max shines through every post. I wish you many happy and peaceful days w/Max yet.
I would do the same thing if it was one of my boys! You love him and don't want to torture him. That is completely understandable. You could try adding some tuna water or even just plain water to his food. As long as he gets liquids in some way, he should be okay. I applaud you for putting Max's feelings ahead of your own. It takes a lot of love to do that!
As hard as it is, this decision comes straight from the heart. He will live his life out as God intended, and you will love hiim now and forever.
Prayers to you both. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
Prayers and a candle (http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/...ng&cid=8994248) for you both. God bless you.
Love from Pat and cats
I totally understand your decision and would have made the same one if it had been an option for me with Taz. It's really not worth the stress it causes to Max. As long as he is comfortable for the time being then all is well.
Hugs to you and loves to Max. :)
***BIIIIGGG HUGS*** to you and Max!:love:
I hope so much that Max keeps up in good shape for some time to come- what you write about him eating sounds very good.
With age, they can start to lose weight. My oldest cat (he's somewhere around 12) is starting to lose a little weight. He's still active, spry, and eats and drinks well. I can live with a little weight loss, or even a large weight loss, as long as his quality of life is good.
Some times the hardest thing to do is just give love.
Yes, Medusa said it quite well. Max knows you love him, and now he knows you want the best for HIM. I know the remainder of his days will be happy ones and I hope he has many many many more days left for you to spoil him rotten. This is never easy on anyone, so why make it more difficult for both of you? {{{hugs}}} to you and gentle smoochies to Max.
Love and hugs and purrs for you and Max both.
Slick, I think that you've made a wonderful decision. Now you can just enjoy the time that you have with him. Max continues to be in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
How is Max doing these days?
Any updates on our boy Max?
How is that adorabele furball doing?
Sorry, I didn't know this had been bumped up.
I'm at work right now - will update when I get home. Right now I've been busy catching up on MOFF'S new babies....well, Mom and Baby.
Max is doing really, really well. He's an entirely different kitty. He's confident, happy, hungry, talkative and affectionate - purring up a storm after he's had dinner and we are on the couch in front of the TV. I know I made the right decision, as hard as it was. His left side was losing hair but now it seems to be growing back. The only sign of real aging is his "carcass with fur" appearance.
The other week a very strange thing happened. I was lying on the couch on my side watching TV. His 6pm alarm clock went off and he was crying for dinner. All of a sudden he jumped up on me turned around a few times and laid down on my. That was a first. He's never, ever curled up on me at any time. Then he lay his head down and seemed to enjoy it. He stayed like that for about 20 min, then jumped up, jumped down to the floor and started screaming for dinner again.
He's happy and his quality of life is extremely good and that's all that matters to me. Thank you for asking.
Slick, that is just wonderful to hear! You have obviously made the best decision for Max and I am glad he is showing he grateful he feels by curling up on you! How great is that???
The girlies are sending all their healthy and happy vibes to adorable Max.
How wonderful! :D
Slick - this is great to hear- may you and Max have some really happy times together:)
This is very good news!:) Give Max gentle kisses from me
Oh Slick, that is wonderful news! :) Max surely agrees that you made the right decision!
Have a snuggly weekend!
That's such wonderful news, Slick! Often the most difficult decisions turn out to be the best ones and it looks like this is the case w/Max. Quality of life is what we all desire for ourselves and our furkids and you've given Max that gift. I'm so glad! Same thing here w/Boo. Since I stopped his thyroid meds, he's improved immensely, back to meowing and purring and sitting on my lap at the computer again. What more can we ask for except that they live forever and we know that isn't possible so we take the next best thing and that's a good quality of life. Way to go Max and Slick!
That is great news about Max!!! Hopes for many, many more.....
This has just made my Friday before a long weekend so much better! :D :D
Sometimes I wonder about meds. Here the vet says the animals needs them, yet while they are on them they are miserable. You take them off the meds and they are so much better. It doesn't make sense to me. But all that matters right now is that Max and you are happy. :)
What great news! Max - being CUDDLY?? :D Sounds like he is enjoying a second kittenhood - and screaming for dinner is an excellent thing!
Wishing you and Max much, much more quality time!:love::love::D
Thats great news Slick, and its great when Our Older Cats get a New Lease on Life after being so ill.
We are praying that You and Max will have a Great Catmas 2009!!:love::love:

Wow, I almost dreaded coming back since it's been awhile and I didn't want any bad news about Max. Instead I get this absolutely wonderful uppydate! I knew you made the right decision, Slick, but Max's actions only confirm your thoughts. {{{hugs}}} to both of you! :)
