I have to post a couple...
"Imagine" - John Lennon
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isnt hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
Imagine no possesions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say I'm a dreamer
But Im not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

"Father of Mine" - Everclear
Father of mine
Tell me where have you been
You know I just closed my eyes
My whole world disappears
Father of mine
Take me back to the day
When I was still your golden boy
Back before you went away
I remember blue skies
Walking the block
I loved it when you held me high
I loved to hear you talk
You would take me to the movies
You would take me to the beach
You would take me to a place inside
That is so hard to reach
Father of mine
Tell me where did you go
You had the world inside your hand
But you did not seem to know
Father of mine
Tell me what do you see
When you look back at your wasted life
And you don't see me
I was ten years ole
Doing all that I could
It wasn't easy for me
To be a scared white boy
In a black neighborhood
Sometimes you would send me a birthday card
With a five dollar bill
I never understood you then
And I guess I never will
Daddy gave me a name
My dad he gave me a name
Then he walked away
Daddy gave me a name
Then he walked away
My dad he gave me a name
Father of mine
Tell me where have you been
I just closed my eyes
And the world disappears
Father of mine
Tell me how do you sleep
With the children you abandoned
And the wife i saw you beat
I will never be safe
I will never be sane
I will always be weird inside
I will always be lame
Now I'm a grown man
With a child of my own
And I swear that I'm not going to let her know
All the pain I have known
Then he walked away
Daddy gave me a name
Then he walked away
My dad he gave me a name
Then he walked away
Daddy gave me a name
Then he walked away
My dad he gave me a name
Then he walked away

Alot of John Denver songs have the "Wow" effect on me. it would be good if i actually knew the titles of the particular songs ;)
one of the titles could be "leaving on a jet plane" not sure though , but i love that song *sighs*

early bob dylan
"Hollis Brown he lived ...on the outside of town,
Hollis Brown he lived on the outside of town
with his wife and 5 children, in a cabin, broken down.
He looked for work and money, and he walked a ragged mile.
(repeat)
His children are so hungry...they don't know how to smile.
There's no crops in his fields, there's no water in his well,
(repeat)
He spent his last lone dollar...on 7 shotgun shells.
There's 7 breezes blowin'...all around the cabin door.
(repeat)
7 shots ring out...like the ocean's pounding roar.
There's 7 people dead...on a South Dakota farm,
(repeat)
Somewhere in the distance...7 new people born."
(repeat verse 1)

Wow! Forgive me for stopping the flow, with that last song. The reason it's inspirational to me is because the message is- even if life is so terrible as to be unbearable, humanity still goes on.
There are awful problems on this planet, but we have the opportunity to do something about them. I don't look away when I see the bad stuff; it reminds me to do something about it.
Please keep this thread going, it is the best!
Another of my favories starts out-
"For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth,
over and around us lies...
Lord of all to Thee we raise...this our hymn of thankful praise!"

Phil Ochs (early 1960's)
There But For Fortune
"Show me an alley, show me a train,
show me a homeless man who sleeps out in the rain
and I'll show you a young man
with many reasons why
and there but for fortune may go you or I
Show me a prison, show me a jail,
show me a prisoner whose face is growing pale
and I'll show you a young man
with so many reasons why
there but for fortune may go you or I
Show me a country where the bombs had to fall
show me the ruins of buildings once so tall
and I'll show you a young land
with many reasons why
there but for fortune may go you or I
even I

I'm not sure of the artists and I am too short on time to look up the lyrics now. Here are the songs: They are all Country songs.
Don't Laugh At Me. (I think this song should be played over the loudspeaker every morning in every school.)
Outside Looking In.
We Shall Be Free.
(I believe Garth Brooks sings this one.)

Okay, so work can wait a little bit longer. ;)

Title: Don't Laugh At Me
(allen shamblin/steve seskin)
I'm a little boy with glasses
The one they call the geek
A little girl who never smiles
'cause i've got braces on my teeth
And i know how it feels
To cry myself to sleep
I'm that kid on every playground
Who's always chosen last
A single teenage mother
Tryin' to overcome my past
You don't have to be my friend
But is it too much to ask
Don't laugh at me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In god's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me
I'm the cripple on the corner
You've passed me on the street
And i wouldn't be out here beggin'
If i had enough to eat
And don't think i don't notice
That our eyes never meet
I lost my wife and little boy when
Someone cross that yellow line
The day we laid them in the ground
Is the day i lost my mind
And right now i'm down to holdin'
This little cardboard sign...so
Don't laugh at me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In god's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me
I'm fat, i'm thin, i'm short, i'm tall
I'm deaf, i'm blind, hey, aren't we all
Don't laugh at me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In god's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me

Artist: GARTH BROOKS
Album: Double Live
Title: We Shall Be Free
This ain't comin'
From no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes
I see the way
This world shall be
When we all walk
Hand in hand
When the last child
Cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies
For just words that he said
When there's shelter
Over the poorest head
We shall be free
When the last thing
We notice is
The colour of skin
And the first thing
We look for is
The beauty within
When the skies and
The oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight,
Walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to
Love anyone we chooseWhen this world's big enough
For all different views
When we all can worship
From our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free
And when money talks
For the very last time
And nobody walks
A step behind
When there's only one race
And that's mankind
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight,
Walk proud,
Have a little faith,
Hold out
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight,
Have a little faith
We shall be free
