I watched "Game Change" on Saturday night. Interesting flick.
"O Brother Where Art Thou" was on AMC last night. I hadn't seen it, and I'm not a huge fan of the Coen brothers, but I started watching it and ended up staying with it. I really like George Clooney. Then I was flipping channels and found "Big Lebowski" so I ended up with a Coen brothers double feature.
I was doing laundry earlier this evening and "Best in Show" was on Ion. I love Christopher Guest's mock-umentaries! There were a lot of commercial breaks, so I didn't stay with it till the end.
we hired out THE TREE OF LIFE, talk about boring, we only watched like 15 mins of it and turned it off, it had won a cannes festival award as well, and had a good cast, i was so disappointed, i would call it THE TREE OF DEATH myself, not my cup of tea.
We also had DRIVE, which was a much better movie in the sense that is had some actual action and speaking in it, however i found the violence way too much, i could not look, and i would not recommend this film, so in all both were flops in my opinion...
went to see FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT courtesy of the radio station, loved this movie, i needed a good laugh and was not disappointed, if you loved BRIDESMAIDS as i did , you will love this movie......:):D
My mom went with a friend to see "Moonrise Kingdom". I'll find out tomorrow how she liked it. Dad and I watched "Moneyball" on Starz -- we liked it! It reminded me of "Jerry Maguire" and "Field of Dreams"-- which is one of my all-time ever favorite movies. We looked it up on the Internet when it was over and found out that it was nominated for several Academy Awards and also that it is based upon a true story.
Damn Yankees-
I dislike musicals immensely.
I love this movie and can sing bits of all the songs.
just been to see SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, i have to say i really enjoyed this movie, although it is not in general my type of movie, it was quite exciting and seeing on the giant screen was really good, i won tixs, so all good, i would pay to go and see it though.7/10 from me.
I just rented and watched (or tried to anyway) this movie. It was awful. Boring, silly, violent, bad acting and in general, just awful. Don't waste your time or money. It is about a plane crash and the survivors dealing with unrealistic looking and acting wolves. Just awful.
SAS:rolleyes:
I saw "Bridesmaids" was on cable, so I set it to record and watched it, as I remember everyone raving about it, and all the people saying how funny it was, and the awards people were nominated for from it. It was okay, just not hysterically funny. I do NOT understand hat all the hype was about. I did, however, of course love the puppies, but that was minor bit toward the end.
This morning I watched "American Graffiti" that I recorded on DVR. LOVE that movie!!
oh i gotta say i love BRIDESMAIDS but then i was in need of a good laugh, and the grey well i am glad i did not pay to go and see it, as i was thinking about it, it does not sound that great, thanks for the review.
I saw WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING, which is by the makers of bridesmaids, i was not expecting excuse the pun to find this very good, but actually i really enjoyed it, bit over the top in places, but i was ok with that, even though i went for free i would have paid to see it.
well tis me again, is no-one seeing movies anymore or forgetting to post.;)
Went to see the preview of HOPE SPRINGS last night, really really enjoyed this movie, two awesome and great actors meryl streep and tommy lee jones, both fantastic in this movie, which is funny, sad and moving i thought, an 8/10 from me, i love tommy in this movie, never been a fan, but i sure am now, wonderful job, and steve carrell interesting to see him in a rather different role, he was awesome too, go see it, will really appeal to those in the 50's and up generation ,but also to everyone i think.
We saw ARGO this afternoon - about the 6 Americans from the USA Embassy in Iran who were rescued by Canadians back in 1979 - 1980.
It was really good. I knew the ending, and yet I still got uptight toward the end, wondering of they would get out of the country safely.
i was just reading in the newspaper about ARGO today, ben Affleck also produced it and he is not so popular with us kiwis read this http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10841011
I have been to see a few movies lately, been winning movie passes, HOPE SPRINGS, fantastic,TAKEN2 not too bad,RUBY SPARKS, loved it,HIT AND RUN also really enjoyed it,going to see the INTOUCHABLES,WORDS AND YOUR SISTERS SISTER hopefully over our long holiday weekend.
you are welcome, yes i of course did find it rather interesting indeed.
At least Ben Affleck admitted he struggled with the movies' portrayal especially of the New Zealanders, but of course, he may have been one of the producers, but did not write the screenplay, and everyone knows "based on actual events" means that it is not all the truth, it is a movie after all, not meant as a documentary!
I have not seen the movie, will probably wait for it to be on cable.
yes that is very true karen, i think he did produce it too or co-produce it,still surely they could get their facts straight, it is amazing how films influence peoples opinions though.
I am thinking about watching Young Frankenstein tonight. I picked it up for $5 at target 'cause I've never seen it that cheap. Gotta love it.
I just have to share,I went to see the intouchables today,a French movie with sub titles, best film I have seen in a long time, would even watch it again, which I rarely do,highly recommend it, I would give it 10/10
I have just watched all of the Twilight saga series, i know a little late, but better late than never, i absolutely loved them all, and i cannot wait to go see breaking dawn part 2 which is screening right now in my city,no spoilers please, as i never saw the others on the big screen and am really looking forward to it, i just saw breaking dawn part one an hour ago.
I have all the books too, so i just might start reading them, they were given to my daughter by a friend and have never been read.:)
Les Mis - today. It is wonderful!!
Anne Hathaway, as Fantine, literally took my breath away when she did "I dreamed a dream.
Went with my mom and dad to see "Lincoln". Every school child in Illinois learns about "Honest Abe" but this just brings those long-ago lessons back in a whole new way. It reminded me a lot of "Schindler's List" in that they both are films about one man in a time of war, trying to do the right thing but it's an uphill process. I would really like to see it again when it comes out on DVD because there is so much to it - when I started looking at the costumes, make-up and sets, I lost track of the story! I think one of the gowns Sally Field wears was modeled after an actual gown worn by Mary Todd Lincoln from the Lincoln state museum down in Springfield.
The film was researched at the Lincoln library down in Springfield and I think also at the Chicago Historical Society. I heard on the news that Daniel Day-Lewis was at the Lincoln library doing research, but the staff only realized it was him when he answered his cell phone and his voice gave him away.
My dad is a huge 007 fan so I'm hoping we'll get to see "Skyfall" while it's still in theaters. Mr. Bond drinking beer instead of a shaken martini, though?
Just rewatched "Long Way Round" and saw the end of "Long Way Down".
Two documentaries about Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman - both actors - taking two motocycle trips.
The LWR was about a ride from Scotland to New York, going east.
The LWD ride went from Scotland down thru Africa to the very southern tip of the continent.
-------------
If you know anyone who rides/rode a bike or loves to travel? They probably will enjoy them.
I rate it... one toe up!
Y&R wasn't on today, I feel the need to watch that silly soap for so many reasons. Well as I said it wasn't on so I watched Harold and Maude. Gotta be the best movie, ranks right up there anyhow. :D

I just finished watching Season 1, 13 episodes of House of Cards on Netflix. It kept my attention and I couldnt wait to get to the next episode. It takes place in Washington, DC and the main character is a congressman who will do about anything to get what he wants. The series has corruption, sex, lies, blackmail (what I imagine D.C. to be), and Kevin Spacey plays the congressman and is the main character. As Season 1 ended, the congressman has just been asked to be vice president (he planned, lied, blackmailed and worked hard to get it). He is a very good actor and I totally enjoyed it. Guess I'll have to wait a year before Season 2.

FLIGHT: I watched Flight last night with Denzel Washington who is a very good actor. He plays the alcoholic pilot of a passenger plane that he manages somehow to land when it develops trouble. It was very scarey when the plane starts on a steep dive and then he turns it upside down to stop the dive. At first he is a hero but then we learn (we knew) his lab results show cocaine and alcohol. (He has an ex-wife and a son who want nothing to do with him) The rest of the movie after the crash landing is his denial and how his lawyer and also a union rep try to keep it under control... but he wants his alcohol and cocaine and refuses for a loooong time to admit he has a problem. I will not tell you the ending but it is appropriate in my opinion. I recommend FLIGHT.
went and saw SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK with bradley cooper, i am quite a fan of Bradley, so yes i did enjoy this rather quirky movie, it had a bit of everything in it for me, humour, serious side to it, and romance, so i would recommend seeing it 7/10 from me maybe pushing to an 8.;)
went to see movie 43, only because i had won a double pass, it had a rating of 0 yep that is right ,and i have to say i completely agree with that, DON'T waste your money, i am no prude or easily offended, but this was crude, and just plain stupid, i found a couple of laughs in it, but mostly i was bored to tears, i was so surprised that some really great stars had even put their names behind this movie, like greg kinnear, halle berry, dennis quaid.
I'm watching the Academy Awards and doing laundry. I thought Octavia Harris looked beautiful and Anne Hathaway was absolutely radiant. (Though I can't decide if I like her better with short or long hair! I like both!)
I like sci-fi and saw two movies recently that I really liked.
Gravity - I like Sandra Bullock. I am not a fan of all her movies, but I found Gravity to be a decent flick. Some of the problem resolution was a little far fetched - I found myself talking to the screen trying to give Bullock and George Clooney advice!
All in all? It was a good - It's hard to do a movie where there are only a few actors in it - the premise/acting/script was a little far-fetched, but it's Hollywood?
----------
Oblivion - This movie blew me away - Tom Cruise is a polarizing figure because of his off screen life but he is a fantastic actor. He was excellent in this.
I had to watch this movie twice more, once to see it with the director's commentary and another time to catch all I missed. The story was GREAT..I lose interest in movies where I can see what is coming next.
For most of the movie I couldn't figure out where the movie was heading. It was sci-fi, action, suspense and a love story.....If you like Sci-Fi? You probably will like this.
I'm a big fan of Sandra's,mainly the reason I hired this movie out, gotta say Richard I was rather bored with gravity, and hubby who is a sci fi fan was also.
People raved about it another reason I hired it,I'm sure at the big screen at the cineama it would have been more impressive, there were some exciting parts to the movie, but I was disappointed George clooney wasn't in it longer ,all in all I was disappointed in the movie, glad you enjoyed it though.i would give it a 5/10.
Anyone seen How to Train Your Dragon 2 an if so was it as good as the first?
i dont want any spoilers. just a yes or no answer ^^
Vette, How to Train your Dragon 2 was BETTER than the first. It left me VERY impatient for the final piece of the trilogy!!
I also saw Edge of Tomorrow recently, and it was really good!
Thank you for your reply ^^
makes me wanna see it even more now. youre now the second person to have said pretty much the samething about it. however in my tiny town out in the middle of no where in Washington doesnt have How to Train Your Dragon 2in theater just yet QQ
I finally got a chance to watch "Rush".
Ron Howard did an incredible job with the movie. It is NOT family friendly, as he captures the atmosphere around the F-1 circuit as well as covering the actual racing. The cinematography is absolutely excellent, and the actors playing Niki Lauda and James Hunt hit their roles spot on. The closing shot of the current-day Niki Lauda is just an example of the detail in the movie. It will be going on the DVD purchase list, it's well worth it.
Just saw "The Good Liar" on Saturday. There is a plot twist that I didn't see coming- I'm not good at suspense! But I really wanted to see it for Sir Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren together.
I just got done watching 'So I Married an Ax Murderer' . Haven't seen it in years. Only now I have the song "There She Goes" stuck in my head.
