I think I might have luck trapping him as he now knows where
his food comes from & waits for me under the pine tree near
my front porch or on the bannister of the porch side wall.
That he is coming closer to the porch itself makes me think he's
starting to trust a little. He's very afraid of people, so I don't
know how he would adapt to being inside with me, my 4 other
boy kitties(or they to him), and my 7 mo old puppy. I'll take it
a day at a time and see. I do want to get him into the vet this
next week to be neutered & checked out.

Liz, which kind of cat trap are you going to use? When Fister was trapped in the yard (by a professional) he went totally beserk! That may have been the time when he broke his front tooth. The man did it in the daytime and we kept an eye on the trap. The less time in there the better! When he got in, a big blanket was put over. That should calm him down. Perhaps it's also a good idea to get a 2 mg. Valium (Diazepam) from the vet and put it in his food in the cage, to help him calm down quicker. Ask your vet about it!
Good luck, Liz! I hope he is healthy and he can get along with your other cats! Looking forward to see some pics! :)

Randi,
It's a humane live trap made by Tomahawk Live Trap Co. in
Wisconsin. It's the same one I've used for all the other kitties.
It has a spring closing door at one end & a lifting door, with a
metal snap at the other. It's big enough for the cat to turn
around & be comfortable. I would not set it out unless I see
him first & would be here to then cover the trap & carry him
trap & all, inside. I must first call the vet to see what day is best
to bring him in. I used to be able to just call the vet & he would
say just go ahead and trap the cat & bring him in whenever you
get him/her, but that was before this vet got so busy.I'd like
to let the vet know ahead of time that one is coming in.
Some of the kitties became very upset inside the trap, some
were just scared, but very quiet. Covering the trap with a sheet
or blanket & soft cooing words seem to help them stay calm till
they get to the vets office. I just dropped off a roll of film Friday
& there should be a few pics of this little orange guy in them. Liz.

The vet's office asked me not to bring him in on Monday
as they were "wall to wall" with animals for spay/neuters.
I had forgotten that Feb. is national spay/neuter month with
discounts being offered to get more people to bring in their
pets. Tuesday, I had Puppy Class with my dog Moki & got
home later than usual & the orange boy was not around. I
put out some dry food only anyway, in case he came back later.
Weds. ,the vet is not in the office. I fed him tonight & he seemed
really hungry. I'll set the trap tomorrow after work & hope it
works the first time. He could be at the vets by tomorrow eve
or first thing in the morning. Got the pics back & there are two
pics of him. One is kind of blurry, & the other his face is buried
in the can of Friskies:D I'll post a the pics after I put them on
Imagestation.

He looks beautiful, good look trapping him. Sure would like to see this guy indoors and loved by someone as nice as you!

Just a note to update on the orange kitty. He's still here.
I've not been able to trap & take him to the vet as yet, but
he's eating 1 can of food & a plate of kibble every morning
and evening.I've built him a sheltered spot on my porch where
he can at least eat in a dry comfortable place. As I don't want
to leave him in the trap overnight,I've only set the trap in the
morning before work. This is not really giving him enough time
to go in it before I give up,take the food out and leave it for
him outside the trap. Time constraints, weather(tons of snow)
and a roving neighborhood dog are making this harder than it
has to be. I wish I could stay home for a week, it would make
this a lot easier. I'll keep trying. One good thing is that he does
trust me a little more now.

Still hoping you manage to trap him Lizbud - I reckon you will eventually!! Good Luck :) :)

I was so excited this morning. The little orange kitty was
waiting for me on the porch in his usual spot.I baited & set
the trap out (half covered with a sheet) & went to get ready
for work. When I came back to check, the trap was sprung and
the kitty was inside. Hooray!! I loaded the trap into the car
and kept talking to him to calm him down. As I pulled out of
the garage, I saw the little orange kitty walking across the
neighbor's yard. Who was in the trap? Stopped
the car out back & peeked under the sheet & saw a grey/white
cat in the trap that I had never seen before. He was very upset
with me. So I put the trap on the ground & opened
the "back door" of the trap & he came out & sauntered on down
the alley as I apoligized over & over to him. Oh well, maybe
next time.

Oh Liz - poor you - so near and yet so far. Better luck next time :D
