Thanks Sue!! That's nice to hear. I wish the guy would have mentioned all the donations of a bag of dog food here and a bag of dog food there, because it all adds up. I hope your holiday is going well. My thoughts have been with the dogs all week!

Molly both you and Pam brought in over 350 lbs. each. My parents brought in four boxes of food as did so many others. I also contacted Petsmarts charities.
Some bad news. Some of the dogs have tested positive for parvo. Needless to say, I won't be able to go over to help as planned on Saturday.
Did you hear anything about the two pups and the black you were to pull yet?
Don't count on the black for Tammy and Andy....they can say that they want all they want, but they probably won't do anything about it....I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
I am supposed to call and talk to Linda today and see what the status was. If they have parvo, there may be none available. :(
I wrote a letter (email) to Rex Robinson to let him know I appreciated the effort of writing the article, but, that there were many "plain folk" that donated also, and I was sorry that he hadn't mentioned that. We'll see.
I agree so much, Molly, there were so many extra-ordinary people donating supplies and food and time cleaning and bathing and walking....etc. None of them were given credit.
Since parvo has struck, I am banned from the shelter because of the threat to Killian. I had planned on walking them on Sat. but now that's off. Maybe down the line in a few weeks if they are still in impound (and no parvo shows up) I will be able to go back there.
Did Tammy at least call Linda or Julie to take the hold off of the black so he or she will have a chance at rescue or adoption??? I'd hate to see him sitting there waiting and getting sick (GSDs don't cage well....however maybe these do because that's all they knew in the past :( )
For anyone interested in the continuing plight of the impounded GSDs in IL, the GSD bb has started a new thread being that the original is toooo long.
Continuing plight of the GSDs in IL
Sue,
I have read much, but not all, of the links of GSD board people
and there seems to be a lot of bickering going on. Do you know
who is coordinating this resue & placement effort? I do hope that
many, many dogs can be saved. It's very scary to think what
kind of health they are in after being neglected for so long, The
news of adding Parvo to the list of health issues is very sad.:(
I have been & will continue to pray that many can be helped
and rehomed.
I just talked to Linda and she said the impound is still on, but to call her on Monday to see what's going on. She said that there are 2 female GSD pups that will be availabe when the impound is lifted. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of dogs leaving to forever homes when that impound is lifted. She said all but 6 of the pups are off of IVs and getting fat and sassy. There is one little guy that has a frost bitten paw and may lose it, but, they get along fine and at least he will be alive. She was far more upbeat than she was last Saturday, so it sounds like things are moving along. She took our names and number and will call us when there is a need.
OMG!!! I am SO mad!! I just got off the phone with Linda. I told her what I had been reading about the shelter and she about came unglued. She said that if the slanderous remarks continued that she will be taking legal action.
1. The dogs are under IMPOUND by the DOA.
2. The majority of the dogs are NOT GSDs they are Belgians and Malinois. And the screening process will include extensive checks.
3. Linda WILL be working through one rescue when the dogs are released, and that person will be in charge of decided what dogs go to what rescue, since she is better versed than Linda is.
4. There was NO parvo in the shelter....it is a combination of 2 worms that make the poop smell like parvo, but it is NOT parvo. Like she said, if it had been parvo the shelter would have been on shut down until they had it under control.
5. She has sent out an open invitation to anyone with questions to call her directly at the shelter and she will answer any questions that anyone has.
6. They have a 700 square foot isolation area that has its own heating and air conditioning with 5 vets that are on their staff so that the animals have 24/7/365 vet care.
7. The rescue that was asked to leave came at 9:30 at night when Linda was NOT there and were turned away, being that it is private property and is not open to the public all the time.
It just infuriates me that flat out lies are being spread at this point. I encourage anyone who has questions to call her and she will give you the information you choose. The number is 708-636-8586, and ask for Linda.

Sue you read my mind. I was just thinking about them today! Thanks for the update. I have to call Linda and see if there is anything else they need and possibly do another run up there.
Our rescue is now Department of Agriculture approved! I wonder if we will be getting any of the dogs when the impound is over.
That's great news Sue! Any news about the impound being released?
I haven't heard anything yet, Molly.
The article wouldn't open for me, Sue, but I am hoping and praying that things work out for these dogs. Please keep us posted.
