I won't see him again until Friday. I hope he gets his booty in gear and gets 'scootin' down those halls.
Told him I'd spoil him with a nice hot bubble bath if he's out of the hospital before the weekend. ;) :D

Better person to make that suggestion to! :)
Sounds like the Nurses are caving in to ANDY's wishes.
If DOC writes an ORDER - DEMANDING a certain amount of walking -
NO one will challenge it or not make an honest attemp to comply.

then tell him if he wants a *nappie* on his soft bed ~

Kim, when my Dad was in the hospital, it was nearly impossible to get the nurses to get him and get him walking. They were just to busy, running from room to room and doing all the grunt work and paper work for the Drs. :(Quote:

Anytime Andy has a visitor, the visitors need to make him go down the hallway and back at least once. We finally had to post this on Dad's door on fun colored paper. People started taking it seriously and he got a good bit of walking that way. :)
I was remembering when my mom had open heart surgery, about 7 or 8 years ago, and they made her walk the next day!!!!
Andy, you get out of that bed, so you can get back to living!!!!! (All said out of love and concern, of course). :D
When I called at 7:30 p.m., Andy was just getting settled back into bed. The nurse only asked him to walk part way down the hall but Andy did some 'laps'. To the end of one hall, back down, past his room, around the corner, and back to his room. :)
When he got back, dinner had arrived and he ate some of it. When I talked to him, I encouraged him to eat some more, so he did.
He didn't wear his slippers though... :( He said next time...
I'm so glad to hear he's finally gotten up and going! Like Logan said, when my mom had quintuple (?)(5) bypass surgery, they had her actually sitting in a chair that night and up and walking the very next day! I was amazed at how quickly they got her up, but they said it was best for the patient. However, the nurses would NOT take no for an answer. They MADE her get up and get going - which it sounds like Andy's nurses are not doing. My mom's surgery was over 10 years ago now, so maybe the staffing situation has become worse in those 10 years - meaning maybe the nursing staff is understaffed more now as compared to 10 years ago and they just don't have the time to spend with him.
Anyway, glad to hear he's at least been up and about a little bit. :)

Didn't wear his NEW Bear Klaw Slippurz?? :(
You should have "lost" the ones he had!
Good goin on the "Laps", though!!
Now if we can just keep him *Motivated*!!
Try to convince The Roomies that "walkin later" is NOT an option!
GO, Andy, GO!! ;)
..
Thank goodness he's up and walking. Now if only we can get him to eat more.
Come on Andy.....the harder you try, the sooner you'll be back home. More prayers on the way for you and Kim.
We simply MUST have a picture of Andy walking with his bear-claw slippurz :D
Great News Andy!! Keep going now - but please try eating a bit more - we want you back home very soon {{{Hugs}}}}
Bear-Claw Slippurz pics., sound wonderful - we need pics, we need pics, we need pics!!!
Lynne
I can't understand how a man who is used to be seen in Spiderman dress doesn't want to be seen in bear claw slippers:D
However I am VERY happy that he walks at all!
(If I was you Andy I would walk to get at a computer and see what all these folks write about me:D )
Yahooo he got up now hopefully he'll realize its easier each time. Now lets work on the food intake .
I still will donate 30 lbs of fat. to help out.
Keep going Andy you have too many friends here needing to see you back in action and a wedding with Kimmy.
I just emailed his mom telling her how I felt about Andy not eating.
I'm literally shaking.....
*hugs*
I'm going thru pictures now.
I worry so much about this! Is he not eating because he feels sick, or has this been a problem for a long time? I know you had mentioned something in an earlier post about him not getting enough nourishment to support his internal organs! :( Could he possibly have an eating disorder? Men do get them too .... it's just not as publicized as with women. I hope I am not out of line ... just concerned, and trying to offer any ideas that I might come up with??? :(Quote:

Hey Kim... I'm leaning towards eating disorder, though Andy just says he's too lazy to eat.
It's been going on for awhile now and I regret not getting him help sooner, but I sincerely hope this is a wake up call. He says it is.
Now for the Andy update: :D
Andy called me around 3 and we talked for close to an hour!! :D
He said he ate all of his breakfast and lunch. I think the doctor or dietician came in and really chewed him out this morning.
A nutritionist came in while he was on the phone with me, and I could hear the conversation. She gave him some paperwork on eating better and eating a high protein diet. He admitted to her that the past couple of meals at the hospital he would stop eating before he was full 'just because'. She praised him for eating all his breakfast and lunch.
I hope it continues. Andy said he put pictures up of us in the room as motivation. He also did a lot more walking and sitting in a chair today. He even carried the machine that his chest tube is connected to for a little bit while he walked. It weighs about 5 lbs, but he said it felt heavier.
He said he knows he needs to eat more.
I'm real encouraged by this. :)
Pictures up next!!!!
I'll try to keep these in order...

http://www.cutestsandgirl.com/images...y%20111604.jpg
Glad to hear some good news.
I always thought he was a bit on the skinny side. :(
Simba wants to know if you could possibly deliver this message to him? :)
I am so pleased to see color in his cheeks in the last photo.
I would keep some of these pictures around - especially on the refridgerator to remind him of the "before" and "hopefully - the after."
If this is an eating disorder - there is absolutely no shame in getting help to overcome it.
Hugs and support to the both of you!
Andy looks pretty good. He'd look a lot better with more weight on him. If you think it's an eating disorder, then you should tell him that he'd look better heavier. I don't know for sure, but I think self esteem couldn't hurt. Male eating disorders are on the rise. I'm not saying he has one, but it's just a little fact.
All in all, like I said before he looks pretty good :)
I agree with every one his color in the last pic was very good. If this is from an eating diaorder I can under stand how hes thinking . In high school I was becoming anaxeric (sp) I luckly had a boyfreind(hubby now ) who made me eat. and not let me purge. Hard to believe looking at me now I do have only 30 more lbs for my doc to be happy with a lower weight . my loss of 60lbs in 2 months worried my mom and Tim . A high protein diet will be good for him.
Get him one of those new Hardees MOnster burgers 1400 cal. in one burger and we will all cheer him on eating it:D
ps My hubby had those slippers once only they were Much bigger a size 16 tall man big feet.
:)
Glad he hasn't forgotten how to **SMILE** :)
http://www.cutestsandgirl.com/images...y%20111604.jpg
Now... if he'd remember how to **EAT**
Maybe he needs to find sumpin to "dress up" his meals...
Maybe:
. . Chawklit Sauce on the mashed taters?
. . ButterSkotch sauce onna green beans??
Me? I *LOVE* Gravy on EVERYthing!!
Gravy on the Meat - thicker the better!
Gravy on the Taterz - baked, boiled, home frys, even French Fries!
Gravy on the VEGGIES - beans, peas, corn...
Find that Boy sumpin he *LIKES* - then use it!!
:D
As for the Slippurz...
Those Bear Klawz look a LOT more comfy than the hospital issue pair!
I got *socks* that look thicker than the hospital pair! :p
.
Hey Andy....after you are out of the hospital, and I have had my surgery, and can eat what I want again, I am inviting you and Kim to go to dinner with me and Ralph...but there is a catch...I only pay if you clean your plate!!!
Kimmy ... the pics are good to see ... especially that big smile! :D
Hang in there, honey ... I know you have to be exhausted!
(((HUGS)));)
**WAVES WITH BOTH HANDS** Hi Andy......nice to see that wonderful smile. Now all you have to do is eat to get your strength back to you can make a jailbreak!
If I might suggest something...those hospital gowns are not the best. It looks those ones that open at the back. Wouldn't your own PJ's be more comfortable? Or would they not go with the bear klaw slipperz? :D
Get well soon Andy. We are all praying for you.
It's lovely to see you smile Andy - as well as up and walking - GREAT!
But you really have to EAT - you must pack some weight on - otherwise you won't have the strength to recover properly. Try little and often - big meals can be very off putting when your not feeling upto par. Six or seven smaller meals instead of three HUGE blow out meals are much easier to digest.
We must see you using those bear klawz slippurz very soon!!
Taek good care and {{{{{{HUGS}}} to you and Kim xxxxx
Lynne
Good morning!
Here, Andy, I brought you breakfast from Thursdays. Laurie is over there cooking up a storn.
Pancakes, melted butter and maple syrup
Sausage
Bacon
Couple of eggs, sunny side up.
Grits
Toast with homemade jam
Orange Juice and
some coffee................
oh, and what is this............a bowl of fresh fruit!
Hi Andy!!!
Glad to see you smiling!!!!
Keep eating and exercising--hopefully you'll be out of the hospital in no time:)
Not just ANY pancakes Andy... BUTTERMILK pancakes! And the maple syrup is from Mayor Karen in New England so you know it's the best. Walkies walkies.... work up that appetite!
Laurie
Now ya'll are making ME hungry! :D
His mom responded to my letter and it's all good. :D
Andy you'll be in my prayers.
Still keeping the prayers flowing your way Andy. Eat up kid, or as my dearly departed English Grandmother used to say Feed, feed, you're skin 'n bones!
:)
Has Andy *checked in* today?
Kimmy ~
Ask around - maybe get The Roomies to check -
see if there's another "inmate" on his floor that also needs to
be "out and about" that he could take a hike with.
Hooking him up with a friend might make walking the halls a
bit more enjoyable and longer lasting.
What a good idea :).Quote:

Wonder if they'd let Kia in? I'm sure she'd love a walk. ;)
Of course, if she's a puller that might not be a good idea...could you imagine?! :p
Yeah! Way to go Andy! It's so good to see you looking so much better - and out for a hike too! What great news this morning! :D
Kimmy, in the pic of them out for a hike, is that his dad with him? Just curious because from behind, I could SWEAR that was my dad! Pants hanging down, hands in pockets, short hair, sweatshirt - I SWEAR!!!
Love the bear claw slippers, but now I can see why maybe he left them there for the first time. Seeing as how he might have been a little unsure on his feet to begin with, and then to have those on - they're HUGE! But I love them!
Great uppydate. :D
I'm going to be giving Andy a call here pretty soon. Just need to pop upstairs and get my lunch first. :)
Yep. :DQuote:

Just got off the phone with Andy. He said he was so full he was feeling nauseous so I did most of the talking and he listened.
What he did tell me was that he's been out of bed, but only to sit in the chair for a bit, that way he can stretch and get out of bed but stay plugged into the wall. (The chest tube machine is has to be plugged in to work so that's why walks have been brief)
They now have him back on the IV along with an antibiotic. Preventative, I think. That's also plugged into the wall. He said once that finishes (it'll be about a half hour), he'll take a walk.
His hemoglobin levels are up to 9 now. They were at 8 yesterday. 10 is normal for most males I believe.
He has a roomie now, but the guy was out at the moment having a heart catheter done. :( Once he's back he has to lay flat on his back and not move at all.
The fluids are slowing down, but there's still no set date on when Andy will be released.
I think that Boy's runnin a Con Job on ya!Quote:

Look at the Big Hike photos...
That box the (CUTE :D ) Nurse is towing along is the "Drain Pump" -
isn't it?? They run on wall-power AND BATTERIES!!
He could walk to the Mall and back before the batteries would run down!
:p
LOL! That is the Drain Pump and I knew they unplugged it but I wasn't aware that batteries were included. :)Quote:

In fact the Nurse made Andy carry the Drain Pump on yesterday's walk. It's only 5 lbs. but Andy said it felt like a ton. :D
