Sorry you won't be able to make it. Hope your mom's recovery is swift. :)

So sorry to hear about you not coming but I totally understand and hope that your mom will be ok after her surgery. We'll miss you, but there's always next year:D
Yeah! Roxey's bday is around that time too (May 31) so we usually celebrate by bringing cake, or pupcakes and I'm sure we'll be doing the same this year. We could just make it a double bday celebration! Sounds like fun...a party and a picnic:D
Here's Roxey with her cake from 04'

How neat, 2 wonderful dogs sharing a b-day, well almost, but they will be sharing a party. lol
Hmm, maybe I should take a drive over there. I live near Chicago and just checked how far it is. It says a little less than 5 hours. Not bad at all. I'll have to check my funds and see if I could make it.
I think I might feel funny since I have never met anyone from PT before, but I still want to go. There has to be a first time!
Next question would be who to bring with?!? Sylvia hates the car and can't be away from my dad for more than a normal work day, so she's out. Harley, Morty and Jimmy are good in the car with Morty being the best with it. When I rescued Jimmy we drove 8-9 hours with him in his carrier, but coming out for walks every 2 hours, so I know I can get there ok with him. I think I'd like to take Harley though. Something to think about. :) Any requests?

Mind you, Findlay meetings are usually fully of medium-large dogs, so bring who you think would have most fun around bigger pups!

I don't know for sure if I can make it, but I'd want to bring Harley because I hate for him to miss out on stuff. Somehow he knows, I swear, but I know Morty would be good on a trip (he's not even good at home!) Maybe I should bring both!
I wish you guys could meet them all!
Also, does anyone know of dog friendly hotels/motels in the area? I'm not much of a camper :p
There are a ton of hotels quite nearby in Findlay, it'll take a little searching to figure out which ones are pet-freindly, but there are a myriad of choices! Miss Hoppy stays home to guard the house, so we've never had to find out for ourselves, but I know Cinder and Smokey's dad knows at least one!
Some of this got discussed on the other post - you might want to read it

This link lists which ones are dog-friendly, I've been asking around but no one sems to have much of an opinion about any of them.

Three GOOD chains that the Three FurKids have all stayed at are:
Red Roof Inns,
Super 8,
Motel 6. (Motel 6 is 30 and 35 miles away from Findlay)
Prices have varried between $35 - $45 per night - depending on the City and
the Date - Local Events sometimes push UP the price quite a bit.
Red Roof and Super 8 both have "under $45 a night" rooms for one adult -
and up to Three Dogs - IF you talk to the right person!
I usually call the CHAIN's main 1-800 number and swing the best "deal" they'll
go for and then make an un-secured reservation - then ask for the
direct phone number for the motel itself.
Next step is to call the motel front desk and try to "beat the deal" the chain's
1-800 people agreed to.
Last step is to pick the lower rate quote and cancel the high priced room.
"USUALLY" the Motel's Front Desk beats the 1-800 folks by at least $5 ---
and have agreed to "three small mutts" staying in the room.
Best bet is to shop around by phone -
the Web Sites do NOT always offer the cheapest rates!
Great advice, Phred, you are so smart!
just want to add, the guy at the campground I talked to pointed out that it will be a holiday weekend, so don't wait till the last minute to try to make reservations. You can always cancel if your plans change.
Does anyone know how long it would take to drive from Maine? Do you have to go through NY to get there? Me and mom were going to go somewhere this summerish...I might see about going here...but I think we might end up going to Alberta.
Do you think it would be easier to drive through Canada then go through the states? (I live in PEI)
It depends on from where in Maine.
It is about a 13 hour drive for us from Massachusetts, we travel west usually through New York State. I don't know the Canadian highway system enough to know whether it's be better going mostly through Canada or not, when we take the "northern" route, we pass by Niagara Falls, which is of course on the Canadian border.
Have you tried mapquest.com?
Not sure how long it would take, but I know it's a looooong drive. I have a brother in Gray ME.Quote:
