I guess it's just an ingrained thing for me. I was always the ugly kid that everyone taunted and made fun of. I barely even remember 1st-8th grade because it was so horrible. I've actually blocked most of those years out of my life.Quote:

I went to a private school, so I was with the same mean 20 people for 8 years. I hated it. People made me cry all the time and picked on me.
Things were better in high school, since there were so many more people to choose from, but I still had people make fun of me because I'm not pretty like all the other girls :rolleyes:
College was by far the best, because everyone is anonymous and by then, I think people are way more mature. I guess you could say that low self-esteem was implanted in my by years of torment. Plus, the media does nothing to help.
I really do wish I had a better view of myself, but I don't. Especially now that I'm fat, I feel even worse. I just don't know how to feel better.

I just go by my own standards. I hate my nose. HATE it lol. Everyone says it's perfect, but it's not. It's too short and it's got a bulb on the end of it. Apparently only I can see it LOL. And I hate my chin. It's too round and pudgy. My hair is curly, so I have to straighten it. I wish I had nice, straight hair. I think my jaw is too wide...And I'm not fat, but I would love to lose some weight. And my legs are ugly too. There we go...I think I've narrowed down my problems...Now sign me up for one of those reality makeover shows! ;)Quote:

Here is Kirsten's Pet Talkers page with pictures of many of us who have posted here and I feel each and every one of us is beautiful in our own way, even myself. Currently I just don't feel I look even half as decent as I did in my picture. That was taken a year and half ago and I think I've really gone down hill since. :(
I should get my picture up there. Though my hair changes every month, so it will always be out of date lol.
I certainly wouldn't say beautiful, but I'm ok with how I look.

hotornot you post a picture of yourself and your rated by thousands of people. Crazy but true. Well, I'm rated over an 8 on that site, suppossedly. I somehow don't believe anyone is a 10. Except, of course my boy Sash!;)

Past experiences can have alot to do with how women view themselves. I do find it hard to believe that some women who are happily married and have a loving husband/partner, also have low self-esteem. We all know that our own self-esteem only comes from within and not someone else, but when I was dating someone for a few short months in 2001, I was on top of the world. I was pretty, beautiful inside and out and I was desireable. Just don't ask what happened when the bomb dropped. :(

Yes, you've probably guessed that I'm not too keen on myself and that I have issues but who doesn't? It's what we decide to do about it. I can fill myself with negative talk all day long...call myself stupid, ugly inside and out, as well as tell myself that I'm worth nothing.....or I can choose to accept myself along with all my foibles and remind myself that nobody is purrfect.
......and yes, I'm working on the latter but after a lifetime of badtalk, it can't happen overnight.

I don't think I'm beautiful, I think I'm ok looking... heh... I weigh a LOT more than I'd like, I look like I'm way pregnant in the buff (gross image comes to mind), I could go on... but I do get the 'second glance' from guys sometimes (either cuz of my chest or cuz I'm so nasty they gotta look like at a car crash)...

I am way hard on myself. I recognize that's not always a good thing but I don't know how to "out grow it" so to speak. I find I am more forgiving and/or accepting of others but just can't do the same for myself.
I have a lot of mental haunts that I don't mind discussing but choose not to share publically. That said, if anyone wants to talk I'm open for PMs/Emails. :)
Such a tough question....so difficult to answer...
I can honestly say though that everyone of you are BEAUTIFUL! I've never seen most of you and have yet to view the thread with the pictures (although to be honest, I have seen some PTers on a thread years ago) so I can say with 100% certainty that all of you are beautiful! Just by being here, on Pet Talk you are beautifuL!!!!! Your souls are glowing with love and affection. Your words and your action make you beautiful, not what you look like. I would embrace each and every one of you, your outside appearances mean little to nothing to me and to anyone in the "real" world that matters. It's cliche but true, who you are on the inside is who you are and what matters. I love getting to know you all without knowing what you look like. Sometimes outside appearances can get in the way and whether people like it or not, it causes judgments. I hate that. I want people to know ME not my body. I have made mistakes in my life that I have not forgiven myself for and because of that, I feel anger and resentment towards myself. The impression I give off to people is completely different than who I am on the inside more often than not. I've always been told I was "pretty". But what does that mean? I mean really? All that matters is how I feel about myself and that needs come work ;) LOL!
I hope some of us "older" folks can give impart some wisdom about this issue on some of the "younger" ones so they don't have to go through what many of us did...
SOOO, that said, think positive and glow from the inside out, all of you!! :D
I would certainly not put myself in the beautiful category, filmstars like Catherine Zeta Jones are beautiful to me, like all of you I have good and bad days, days where I Think Man how can I look so ugly today, and others where I think yep you will pass for today.
Still my daughter tells me all the time how beautiful I am and hubby calls me gorgeous, so that will have to do for me lol., personally I think I am a good candidate for extreme make-over these days.:D
P.S can someone explain what the term I LIKE PIE means, I have not got a clue, not something we use in NZ.:)
