How do folks make the text heart and other symbols??

Yeah, I'm wondering if there are any other ways to make little designs like that, though...that's a shame that we lost those!

You can make the hearts symbol still! I just found this out!!! hold down the Alt button along with the number 3 on the number pad on the far right of your keyboard! Alt + 3 = ♥ See?? Alt + 5 = ♣!!! Alt + 7 = •!

OOOH THANKS FOR THE ALT TIP!! I knew the ASCII code for the symbols but NEVER the ALT+ trick!! I knew how to make a copy symbol and other cool ones like

§ = ALT+0167

Hehe I know, that confused me at first, too. Using ♥ will only work if HTML is enabled. Since they upgraded I'm assuming they disabled HTML so those codes will no longer work. Instead a newer way is by using ALT+3 to make hearts, so instead of typing in code for the webpage to render, you just put a heart right into your post, like so:

Ok, so maybe I am dumb... do I hod the alt key down, then press the plus sign, and the 3 at the same time? Or do I not use the plus sign? What key am I pressing when?

Yes, it does. I'm using FireFox and I can view them with no problem. Go to view>character encoding and try putting it on "western" to see if that works (that's what mine is on and allows me to see them).

Hold down the ALT button while you hit the number 3 on the NUM pad, not on the number bar above the letters on the keyboard. :) We just say ALT+3 because it means "the ALT key AND the number 3" hehe

I tried this last night and all I got was a question mark. :confused: I tried pressing the Alt key and the 3 on the num lock far right side of my key board. I also then tried it using the plain old 3 and then I tried it using the plus sign in between. Nothing is working. :(

Oh whew! I'm just seeing this thread for the first time and all I was seeing was ♥ and I'm thinking " .... why am I the only one not seeing any hearts ???" LOL Now it's my turn to try! I'm on a laptop so I don't have the numeric keypad, so I don't know if this will work the same.

If you're just seeing question marks, then your character encoding in your browser probably doesn't support these characters. Refer to my post above where I explain how to do it on Firefox, I believe hte process is similar with IE as well

No, you can't do it on a laptop, unfortunately, because you don't have a numpad. :( BUT you can try copying and pasting a heart from someone else's post though! Maybe that will work?
