Did Phred accept the job of Fire Chief?
Not to my knowledge, freckles, but in the story i put him in charge anyway! any thoughts on the name change to Peatquawville in the Picturesque Pataquaw Valley - next to lake whoabegone? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif The story is coming along quite well. its a model town that should be done....... you'll love it http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif Check out the vehicles at www.gemcar.com ....
Gosh I'm not sure it could be in the same valley as Lake Wobegone, as they have pretty wintery winters! We need a valley with winetr just on one part of it, the chihuahuas and many cats just don't like that wet, white stuff! Perhaps you could enter the enchanted valley Pettalkville is in through a secret mountain pass next to Pataquaw Valley!
We got losted an couldn't find the topic after it moved! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/confused.gif Cinder here, finally...
Dad sez OhKeeDoKee for takin on Fire & Rescue job. Gonna have to get sum golfey kartz bigger than the wun we're rafflin off to make into Fire Trukz an Amboolancez. An Dad sez we're gonna have PET Amboolancez on dootee 24/7 in case any FurKids or FeatherKids need a ride to the WhiteCoat Lab. We'll need sum Volunteerz what are willin to sleep inna Station wun nite a week so's we got quick response times.
WHAT!?? Dad sez I gotta get shaved an painted or else go out an find a stray Dalmatian for the Fire Mascot position! I'll go find a nudder Stray wiff spotz ~ my standy-up earbonez don't fit so good inna Fire Hat!
As for possible Strays wanderin into Towne, Dad sez we'll build a special wing onna Fire Station wiff extra bunks, lotsa food pans, an easy-open Dawg an Kat doorz so's the Strays will know they're welcome. SmokeMutt wuntz to be the Fishull Stray Greeter, an I'll be his part-time Sistant Greeter ~ since I've got sperience doin that. We'll have a nice Doption Office in that wing, too, so we'll need sum of the Volunteerz to man that office while they're on stand-by for Fire & Rescue callz.
Whut about Kops? We'll need sumbuddie to coordinate sum Shepherds ta patrol the Towne perimeter to keep riff-raff like puppie mill scouts an animal abusers frum eber gettin inside. We're lettin horseys in too, aren't we? Bet the Kops would rather ride horseys than golfey katrz while on patrol.
Oops ~ Now Dad wuntz a team of Fire Horseys ta live inna Station an pull a old-time Steamer Fire Wagon for parades http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/rolleyes.gif! He sez we'll accept retired horseys cuz they won't have ta run fast inna parade http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif. They can mow the Station grass fer lunch http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/wink.gif.

Dad sez the Fire an Police Horsey's alluz like to have a goat or two round fer kumpanee. The goats kan help wiffa lawn mowin, too. They can do the edges round the pasture fences http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif.
Me-thinkz our Fire Station is startin to sound a lot like the Publik Zoo http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif!

Don't worry, you didn't kill the thread! We're just busy packing to move to Pettalkville!
How wonderful it would be to live in a place where people don't look at you strange when you say you need to hurry home to feed your latest stray or when you remembered your pet treats but forgot the human food at the grocery store!
Hehehehe....LOL....going to grocery store and forgetting to buy human food, only remember to buy pet food http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif LOL....SO funny!!!
And don't worry, Cinners & SmokeMutt...AntiPam is right...we are all so busy packing to move to Pettalkville that we have not had so much time! I think you 2 kids have a great idea about everything...I especially like the idea of retired horses as horsie cops....maybe we can have some sort of team that goes to other *bad* towns outside of Pettalkville and rescues abused horsies and brings them into Pettalkville and makes them big and strong by feeding them and loving them like they deserve and letting those horsies help the cops by walking around the peremiter to make sure no bad guys ever get in! Ya think? And maybe the young, strong ones can have a job one day per week pulling the carrages around....ya know, carrages instead of cars so no pups or kitties (or goats) get hit by cars.

Oh, Cinder, kiddo, you don't need to have spots to be the firestation dog! We think you'll do just fine as is - and we'll of coure make you a fire-hat with holes for your ears! This is Pettalkville! And any spotted dogs that wanna help, well, they can, too, right?
I think the retired horses for parades - and just plain lovin' - is a good idea. And we can love and fatten up rescue horsies to be police-horses.
Maybe we do need a "real" firetruck for emergencies, but I have an idea! Why not, instead of a siren, figure out a "Danger! Danger! run and hide!" bark that the truck can make, and a "run for the hills!" meow, too, so that all the animals will know to stay out of the road when they hear it coming? What do you think, Cinder - could you and Smokey work on the bark-siren, and maybe Boots and some Siamese friends work on the cat one?
I'm just lovin' this soooo much!! I'm already packed!

A little side thread just for Phred (that's rhyme, gimme a dime)-
We once had a solid black, silky longhaired kitty named Bunky. I don't know where my son got that name, but it took. Once, me and my boyfriend were watching one of those "Police Academy" movies (okay, it was raining, we had already worked the last jigsaw puzzle, and were completely bored) and in it was a kitty named Bunky, who was also black and long haired! That's when bf told me that firehouses often had resident cats, and they named them Bunky as in "bunkmate" becuase the cats would snooze in the bed with them at night! Is that true? (Bf often didn't know what he was talking about.)
Cody and I are ready, already! What time do we leave??? OOO! We all get to meet Phred! And his furfamily! This is starting to sound a little like HEAVEN!
I think we will need someone to write up a set of standards cause not just anyone can move to Petstalkville! Right? #1. person or person's must love animals.
#3. Every dog must attend obedience classes.
I think I (as Mayor!) will interview everyone who wants to move in, and I'll have several animal helpers that will help me gauge their reactions.
But a charter of sorts is a good idea - maybe we should spilt it between rules for animals, and rules for people!
Like for people: You must love all animals, or at least be respectful of those you don't.
For pets: All pets are created equal - a 200-pound St. Bernard has no greater rights in any situation than an 8-ounce canary.
I think the idea to have Pettalkville in Tennessee is wonderful, after all, I live in Tennessee. The dogs would love the football team (TN VOLS) because their mascot is Smokey the Bluetick Coonhound. I would probably own the human shelter. That's where dogs can go and pick out their humans. Except we wouldn't keep them in cages. We would let them live in condos, the dogs would go and learn about different families and decidw which one they want. I would also be the dog masousse (spelling?). Every dog loves my massages.
http://www.plauder-smilies.com/happy/roflmao.gif
human shelter! heheheeheeee thats funny! What a great thing it would be to see the doggies going around picking out their humans!
not to stirr up our happy little thread, but...
i think the obedience classes should be voluntary. i do great teaching my dogs all by myself. unlees i ended up w/ a specific problem, i don't think i should be forced into going. i however will be taking any future dog of mine to puppy kindergarten. (basically works on the socialization principle.)
i wish that people that were first time dog owners would consider obedience classes, but i really don't think it should be mandatory.
if our community would be as perfect as we hope, people would have the proper judgement on wether they need to go to obedience classes or not.
Crow_noir, just like there's "home-schooling" for kids, it would be fine for dogs, too! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
Okay, y'all are already forming into factions - the liberals who think the government needs to tell you what to do (mandatory dog obedience) and the conservatives who think they do very well on their own (voluntary dog obedience). Like I said before, keep this up and y'all won't have to move anywhere - you would have made the same town you already live in! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I don't know, I think the coments you made about liberal and consertive are backwards? I am pretty liberal about the training thing...I guess as long as the dog is well behaved there should be no mandatory training, but I can't understand why someone would not want to attend at least one class because they are a BLAST!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gifQuote:

Okay, okay - no politics here, just pets and love! I think the rule should be that all dogs need to pass a minimum courtesy/obedience test - home-schooled or school-schooled, it doesn't matter!
Who wants to run the tests? Keep in mind, you can't be bribed by excess puppy kisses!
Cats, of course, would have no need for an obedience test - most would just stare at the tester as if to say "Who are you to order ME, and what are you talking about?" http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
ROTFLMAO!!! cat obedience...that's a good one!!!! lol
no, actually i beleive there are a few select people out there that could pull off this miricle.
the test...good idea.
(totally off subject of our happy little town... people that leave dogs out on chains 24/7/365 make my blood boil. 99.9 percent of them hardly ever give the dogs attention. and through example after example half or more "chain dogs" turn mean.)
This sort of behavior, of course, would not be allowed in Pettalkville. No way, no how.Quote:

LOL, Karen! I think it would be more appropriate for the cat's humans to be required to take an obedience test!
"How many times do I have to tell you, that's MY window sill!! No plants! >>knocks plant off<< Bad human!!" http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
Well I think Daisy will be in trouble in Pettalkville before she gets there in the obedience thing. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif She turns her head and walks away when I call her, she pretty much does whatever she wants, she plays when she feels like it, she has the run of the house, she jumps on her brother when he is sleeping, she is strong minded, very independent, loving when she feels like it and I wouldn't have her any other way. Her brother, Perry, on the other hand, is very obedient, I think he would be a shoe in. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

jackiesdaisy, I don't think anyone said they have to pass obedience class!!! They just have to have "attended" and I am sure that you have Homeschooled Daisy! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
Most of us I think like the town that we live in - we just want all the pet lovers in one town!
Oh nooooo. I had a really "cool" reply and it got lost because when I hit submit reply, it said I had more than 8 (something or others) and cleared my reply!! It was long, too! Oh well, can't tax my brain again in such a short time, so I guess I will let it go unsaid, but just suffice it to say that they were wonderful words of wisdom ROTFL!!!! Take my word for it! LOL http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Sammi, I have been trying to home school Daisy for three years by way of the leash, treats, good girl, bad girl, when I tell her to come to me and she won't I even pick her up and carry her over to me and sit her there and she looks at me like I'm crazy. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
Then I have to laugh. You can see I'm no good at training. I guess I could be the head Gramma who spoils all the pets and Daisy can be the head Spoilee.

LOL LOL How did I miss this topic earlier!! Wow, what a wonderful place Pettalkville would be!! Pettalkville "A Utopia for pets and the happiest place on earth!" :D
Can't forget the TV aspect of it all. All those stay at home dogs would be sitting watching "In the Doghouse" the daytime soap opera and can't forget those classics like "9 Lives to Live" and "As the Wheel Turns" the hamsters eat that one up! LOL
I think I would want to be the dog and cat behaviorist. I would give classes and information on dog and cat behavior and the history of these great pets!!!
Hahaha!! Wolflady, I love your view of our furry couch potatoes!!! What great "soaps" for our feline and canine, as well as hamster pets!!!! Don't think I could have all of mine in the same room in my real world (with 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 hamsters), but maybe in Pettalkville, it would work! :D
LOL Wolflady, those are great!
I'll paint murals and pictures of animals.
Id be like a person that takes them for walks and bathes them ("i mean if its not taken!!!") but................ ny wwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :p :p :p :) ;)
i'll be the barn manager and the horse trainer :) my palomino filly, maggie, wants to know if horses are allowed in the parks. if they are she promises to be on her best behavior and not bother the dogs, she loves parks! expecially the kids that pet her :D
[ July 19, 2001: Message edited by: horse_1987 ]
Well of course horses will be allowed at the parks!! This is Pettalkville, the best place in the world for all animals and the people who love them!!! :) :)
LOL LOL...furry couch potatos!! :D It could happen!
I tell you what, I really wish I could escape to Pettalkville right now with all the stress here at work and personally :( It's fun to talk about this!! hehehe Oh, the possibilities!!! Maybe if we all banned together, we could buy and island and make Pettalkville a reality?? Hey, it could happen! LOL
Ok, besides the animal behaviorist, I would have a side business in the evening...an animal night club!!
We would have drinks and music and of course...games!!! LOL :D I would have one of you mural painters come and paint a huge mural on one of the walls in the game room...hey, dogs playing pool! HA!
I want to write the gossip column in the local newspaper.
Who was seen sniffing around who?
Which cat was seen fraternizing with the dogs?
Who is expecting a litter?
Enquiring Pets Want to Know!!!
(Sorry, WAY too much coffee for me today!!) ;)
