I just wanted to bring up why vet crop the tails off cocker spaniels ect.. When we had cocker pups it was certinly not EVIL or inhuman to dock its tail.. The same thing goes for Dew claw docking, do you all think that is mean??Quote:

Some people think docking and getting rid of dew claws is mean.Quote:

I'm not against anything though.
Dew claws should be gotten rid of if they are not firmly attached as they can get caught on things and ripped off. JMO
And that is also done when the puppies are only a few days old....Quote:

Exactly. There is virtually no pain then. Or at least the pups don't react in pain.Quote:

or they jist dont remeber.. So you dont think it is mean to cropp a puppy ears when it is just little?? humm..
baby is soooo cute!! can i have her?! :p more pics! :)
No, I don't think anything of the sort. I think it's all mean and cruel. I wouldn't want my ears cut off, or my tail if I had one. It's mean and unnecessary. I think it’s all about the person’s vanity issues with their dog. That being said, Chester’s tail was docked about 2 hours after he was born. If I could go back and have that not happen I would. I like his little stumpy tail, but I would’ve liked his long waggy tail just as much.Quote:

Would I prefer that people at least do it as young as it was done to Chester? Yes, if they feel they have to do it. At least then, as you said, the pain can be forgotten. I would really prefer that people just left the dogs natural, but in a society where people are getting nose jobs, lifts, tucks and liposuction, I’m not surprised that we still feel the need to “cosmetically alter” our pets. Of course, the biggest difference is that people are given HEAVY pain medications to help reduce the agony.
Here’s an excellent article on cropping, docking, declawing, etc.

Fabulous link, Micki! IDA & API are groups that I strongly support!
If your vet knows his/her stuff then (s)he will surely agree....

Contrary to pro-cropping advocates' claims, there is no scientific evidence that cropping has any effect on the incidence of ear infections.
