Setback. Spent five hours at the emergency room last night due to Coop's pain. They examined him, consulted his surgeon, pumped him full of dilaudid (sp?), gave him a prescription to fill for that medicine (within the next four hours at 2am), as the double dosed Oxycodone was no longer effective, and set him loose. We found a 24 hour pharmacy after several calls, got the medicine and got home at 3am.
Just venting a little: we were there because his pain could no longer be managed at home. His surgery is Thursday morning at 8am; we drove specifically to that hospital ER (not exactly next door) because that's where the surgery is to be performed. They released him at 2am WEDNESDAY - do you think they could have admitted him until 8am THURSDAY?? That answer would be no. Believe me, we tried, the techs tried, they would not admit him. :(
I hope this all works out for the best.
It will work out for the best. Hold that thought. Coop's got PT prayers on his side and we've all seen their miraculous powers! This will all be behind you both soon and Coop can get on w/his life w/o pain. It's just too bad that it's been such a painful road getting there. Keep the faythe, my friends.
Who is they? The surgeon? In most case, if the doctor won't admit him, the hospital can do nothing - unless you find another doctor to take over. When I broke my ankle, the Ortho Resident wanted me to have surgery that day. The Attending Surgeon couldn't be bothered to come out on a Sunday, so home I went until Tuesday.
I'm sorry you both have had to go through all this. Prayers continuing for both of you.
Prays coming for you and your husband. I will be thinking of you both tomorrow.
I can't image going through all this back pain, I've stated before the problems I have but I'm just glad surgery is not needed at this point. This morning though I was remembering what pain the back feels like and it just throws everything off. I will say a huge special pray for you and him tonight.
If you need anything, anything at all just let me know.
Melissa
Good Thoughts & Prayers sent Coop's way. Praying the strong pain medicine will work for him till his surgery.
But I wouldn't want Coop getting an infection (upper respiratory, UTI, etc) between 2 AM Wednesday and 8 AM Thursday. Many many patients hospitalized because of infections of various sorts this time of year. Funny that they couldn't move him to the surgical schedule for Wednesday though. :(
"They" is the attending and Coop's surgeon (via phone). We had the nurses and techs on the side of admitting, especially since Coop almost passed out twice with his pressure dropping dangerously low, but no go. There is also a problem with his white cell count indicating an infection somewhere that was mentioned a couple of times. I just pray it all goes well, as I know you all do too, and I greatly appreciate it.
My best wishes to you and your hubby for tomorrow's procedure. I am sorry to hear you and he have had to go through such an ordeal:( Although I'm sure you're both exhausted please try to stay positive - it just has to get better!
And please give give Miss Pinot a big hug for me:)
Best wishes - prayers for a successful surgery.
What a runaround at Emergency! Argh! I hope all goes perfectly from tomorrow morning onwards.
HUGS!
Maggie, I'm so sorry to hear that Coop's been in so much pain.:( I hope that everything will go well tomorrow. You'll both be in my thoughts and prayers. I also hope that 2011 will be a much better year for both of you. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
Prayers that all goes well with Coop's surgery today.
Thinking of you and Coop this morning. Everything will go just fine and all will be good going forward. Scritches for Pinot.:love::love:

Haven't posted but I've been following this thread. Hope all goes well with the surgery. Been thinking of you.
We are thinking of you guys today. HOpe everything is going smoothly and he's on the way to recovery :)
Lots of love, good vibes, and prayers being sent out for Coop, you, and the doctors:love:
Just checking in for news. Hope all has gone well today. (((HUGS)))
He's pain free!!!:D:D
I'm just astounded - surgery was at 10:30, by 2pm Coop was in a basically upright position and eating lunch! I left the hospital at 4pm; the nurse asked his pain level and he said ZERO!! I just got off the phone with him, and he was able to walk to the bathroom (sorry if this is TMI;)) WITHOUT PAIN! Note: he is on NO pain meds; there is a morphine pump for him that he hasn't used!
The point of staying in the hospital tonight (they might have released him if we hadn't said to his doctor up front we wanted him to stay) is to SLEEP. He is so sleep deprived from the pain, and I'm glad to say, I believe he will actually SLEEP!
Thank you all so much for your prayers and good thoughts. Your love and caring is so much appreciated - more than you'll ever know!!:love:
Best Christmas news I've had yet. Great news, Maggie! :)
Fantastic news!!
Great news Maggie - I was thinking about Coop all day and wondering how he was doing, but I see he got the good results too. The wonderful thing about decompression surgery, is that it works immediately! As long as everything stays where it belongs, then he will remain pain free.
Mine was done just 2 weeks ago today, and I had a fusion too. No way anything can move with titanium rods and screws in there. It's been heavenly not having that constant leg and hip pain that I had for well over a year.
I know Coop is ecstatic and I don't blame him. Tell him I was asking for him, and that I'm so happy it turned out well. :)
WOW! I am SO happy for you and for Coop! I bet he'll sleep like he hasn't slept in ages!
I hope they serve him prime rib!:D
Merry Christmas, Maggie and Coop! And Maggie, I hope your health is good too.:love:
Merry Christmas, Maggie and Coop

That is great news!!!!! What a trooper he is, I can't believe he's not in pain. What a blessing to have the surgery go so smooth and no more pain.
Merry Christmas
Amy
What a Christmas gift to be pain free!! I am so pleased to hear how well everything went. I hope you are feeling good too Maggie, Merry Christmas!
This is excellent news!!!:) I'm so glad that everything went well and hopefully he'll now continue to remain pain free for the rest of his life.:)
Yippee!
Hugs all around: to Coop, to you and of course to Pinot Noir, lol!!!
Absolutely FABULOUS! What a wonderful report to read!
A most Merry Christmas to you, Maggie and Coop (and of course Pinot, who is rejoicing with you, I am sure).
:love::love::love::love::love::love:
Fantastic News. Glad to hear he is doing so well.
Ah that's terrific. Now some well earned rest, he's done well.
What happy news to start Christmas Eve Day with. :D:love:
I am so happy to hear this WILL be a very Merry Christmas for him. :D And I'm sure for you too, just knowing he is not in pain any longer. :)
Coop is home for Christmas Eve and I couldn't be happier. While he is not completely pain free he is MOSTLY pain free and moving around really well. I thank you all for your love and concern, and would like to relate a story from his stay in the hospital you might appreciate.
The PT nurse came in to get Coop up and walking. He told her there was soreness and some residual pain. She said (keeping in mind my husband is a good bit over six feet and not a small man) "Have you ever been stuck on a long flight in the middle seat with no way to move? That's where your discs have been for the last couple of years. It's going to take a while to stretch out." I loved the analogy!
Off to cook my hubby's family's traditional Christmas Eve shrimp dinner for just us!
Happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas everyone!
I am BLOWN away!!! Absolutely just blown away!! This is just so amazing that all I can say "THANK YOU & PRAISE GOD!".
Oh Maggie, This is wonderful news!!!! A sigh of relief and a prayer of thanks from here in Trenton. The best part is Coop is home for Christmas minus the pain! Our best wishes to you, Coop, and Pinot for a very Merry Christmas!
