Has anyone ever seen anything at night - apart from "shooting stars" that are really fireflies? ;)
I haven't. But watching the moon move across the sky (via it's reflection in the pool) was neat.
I saw a wesel, but that was about it for at night. It was too bad the didn't zoom in on it so I could get a better look.
Going to have to bookmark that one - its incredible
There's wildlife at the watering hole!!!
Antelope or Impala's (some sort of hooved animal :o )
No antelope there now but there is a hummingbird, I think, moving up and down rapidly very close to the cam. I thought at first it was a spider but I can see the rapid movement of its wings.
I got a shock about midnight (Pacific time) when I decided to click on the site before going to bed. There was a very large giraffe gliding along near the trees and the cam was focused tightly on it. After seeing smaller animals and at more of a distance, it did make me jump. Then I saw some low movement in the trees at a distance and wondered if it was a lion. I knew that I wouldn't be able to watch something like that happen live. But it was a group of gazelles (I think - do we have any experts here who can tell us whether we are seeing antelope, impala or gazelles? I don't even know which live in S. Africa.) Anyway, it was a group of very young ?gazelles and they were racing after each other and play fighting. Unfortunatley, I think the cam operator decided it was time for a tea break because it suddenly switched back to the empty water hole and held still.
That's so cool Lizzie! Man I missed the action this morning. *pouts*
Most of the time, the "deer" like animals are Impala's - not gazelle's or antelope.
I turned the camera on a little after 12, dang! The most I've seen is birds and a mongoose so far. I downloaded a cute program to take pictures when I see some animals! :)
Now when I go to the site I have to watch a commercial first and then the Africam video won't come in, just audio. If I refresh I have to watch another commercial, that stinks.
I just found something out about the cam.
The camera will stream things at different times for different people, because of how long it takes for the picture to get to certain places. So at one time, someone could be seeing a giraffe, while another is just seeing the water hole. It sucks! lol
Me too!! :(Quote:

Uhhh...? lol.. It's dark (night time) and there is NADDA action for me.
I see them too! It's dark out and they are causing a blur. They run on and off screen. At first nothing was going on, but they ran in from the left on the far end of the pond and ran around it and back off screen on the left.
Not sure what they are Angie. My guess would be young Hyenas from the looks of them.
I wish I could make the camera move to follow them!
Darn, nothing now. :(
I keep forgeting about this thread. Nothing now. :( Maybe if I shake the bag of kibble? That usually brings animals around here running.
I just have to share this.............I have been telling my brother about the Africam.........but every time he stands by the computer there is nothing going on - so he really doesn't believe me that I can see all of the wildlife. Today he was standing behind me watching again............and
We hear this scrunching noise - and it gets closer and closer
SCRUNCH SCRUNCH
and there it was - the most magnificent elephant you would ever want to see came on screen and drank from the watering hole and then wandered off.
I think he believes me now!
Today I have seen gazelle, warthogs, a cheetah, hyenas, water buffalo, a giraffe and now an elephant.
Thanks for sharing this link, Kay!! I saw a giraffe the other day. :)
Still nothing for me(other than birds, and a really pretty peacock). BUT I am dying to see a monkey!!!! And a lion, as long as it isnt eating something :p :o
There is a girraffe on right now!
There are LOTS of giraffes on right now!
Wow your right! There has to be atleast 5! Soo cute!
I'm watching it too!!! :) How does the camera know to follow them around...zoom in, zoom out, etc??
I just discovered full screen mode.....really cool!!!
I think there is like a control base around that has people doing it themselfs.Quote:

I keep wondering if there is someone operating the cam at times or if there is something automatic about it. Sometimes it's suddenly focused on things like paper trash by the waterhole, or the fallen log. Other times it will be focused on a large group of impala and suddenly swing back to the empty waterhole and stay still - as though someone decided it was time for tea. I've gone in during the night time and found it focused on the larger picture of the waterhole most of the time and then it's on a small corner of it.
Whoever saw animals at night was very lucky, I've never seen anything. I guess I shouldn't have given up trying at that time of day.
Katie - you saw a peacock? I thought they were from India? Does the park have non-indigenous wildlife?
It's going to be interesting watching the seasons change there, or do things change very much? It's late summer there now. Do they have a rainy season?
Oh Kimmy.... I'm so glad you said that because that was the first thing I thought of too.Quote:

OH they were so cute!

Oh I want to see them again!!!
They are following some sort of bird right now. Tyler keeps pointing at it and saying "GRAY BIRDIE!" :D
Now I know why I don't see very much; most of the animals appear about 2-4am my time. I"m home sick and was up at that time last night. It was strange seeing vultures walking around among the impala, knowing that they walking past possibly one of their next meals. Fortunately, the impala don't think that way. There were a number of giraffes. I almost felt their pain as they straddled and bent their legs to drink water, and you could hear the sound of them drinking very clearly. One of them seems to have lost the tassel on the end of the tail, or do some of them not have one? Is it a male/female or young/old kind of feature? Then the baboons came racing through from the trees, leaping over the grazing impalas at times and then making a tight group to drink water.
All the animals I've seen are on constant alert, the giraffe especially before they bend to drink which makes them extremely vulnerable. I wonder if any of us are going to see a lion attack.
There is a very large elephant on right now! Take a look! WOW!
This is the first animal I have been able to see!
A group of people just drove up to the elephant in a safari jeep :D
Here's two photos I got of the Elephant!! :D

I am watching now. :D
Neat! I got to see the elephant eating in front of the building/house. I could see people sitting in chairs on the deck watching him. Then it got noisey and the camera moved to the water where a monkey with her two babies were drinking. Some gazelles or whatever they are came close and the monkey got upset and loud. That is most I've ever seen there. Now it's frozen and not streaming well.
Thanks for sharing those photos! I need to remember to pop it on in the morning. I keep missing some of the animals. :)
is there a way to see different parts or does it stay in the one location? havent seen anything yet but i am watching two grizzly bears sleep right now! i love this!
The webcam is stationary, but this morning there was an operator who moved the camera and panned the entire area. When he comes across something special he will zoom in and focus on that animal. I know someone is manning it at all different times of the day.Quote:

I have found the very best times to see things is their time early in the morning or early evening. They are nine hours ahead of California time.
The grizzly cam is fun too.
Lizzie, it sure looked like a Peacock. It had the huge pretty tail, but then again, I am not that good at picking birds out :p
Things should be picking up about now as it is dawn there........and the animals come for their early morning drink of water.
