Chipper, sorry to hear that you're not feeling good. I felt a lot like that few weeks ago and it turned out I had giardia. :( NO FUN! I hope you're feeling better soon. Are you staying hydrated okay? Make sure to drink lotsa water ok?
-Jasper
Its hard not to think the worse but he is an adult dog so hopefully it is not parvo...it could be many things, try to stay calm and think positive. Chipper will be in my thoughts.
{{Hugs}} For you all.. and lots of positive thoughts and vibes on the way. My heart is breaking for you :(. I hope the vets are able to figure out what is happening quickly.
Thank you all for the good thoughts.
He would not touch anything I tried to give him. He'll now only drink water if I coax him, not very willingly. But he drank a full bowl which was encouraging.
When Andy got home from work we discussed whether we should just take him straight to MSU or wait until the morning for the vet referral. Since the vets office has the results of the blood work and other notes, we figured we'd keep him alive during the night with fluids, and unless he took a huge nasty turn, take him to his 9 a.m. appointment for a Sub Q injection (and possibly get a few X rays) and take all of that over to MSU.
So far so good. He wasn't very happy with me when I turned on the lights this morning. His mouth is a little dry but his skin is not tenting.
I'm starting to wonder if I'm dealing with a blockage. He did have a greenie on the 20th and a bone on the 21st. Of course only an X-ray would know for sure.
How horrible! I'm so sorry he is so sick. I would also get him x-rays immediately to check for a blockage. I don't usually say anything because most feel greenies are fine, and most of the time they seem to be, but if he DID gulp any larger pieces it could have caused a blockage or partial blockage and it could indeed be causing his problems. Of course I hope he just gets better, how horribly sad since he just came to join your family, he seems like such a sweetie. I know how you feel with regards to a new dog having so many health issues, I almost lost Ginger the first month I had her too and had 800 in vet bills within the first two weeks to try to save her, and another 400 the next month in vet bills. I will pray you have the same outcome we did and he turns out to be okay. Prayers for you all!
Oh No!
:(
My thoughts and prayers are with you all right now.
Come on Chipper..... hang in there little buddy! :(
I agree about the x-ray. There were several reports bouncing around a few months back about the greenies causing blockage. It was alarming enough to me to permanently never give them again. My vet even pulled them from their office.
YOu all are in our prayers.
He finally got up and around. He didn't want to go out at 6 with Kia.
Took him out and he had a nice strong pee. No diarreha. He's now on the couch. We'll be leaving for the vets soon. Not sure when I'll get a chance to update. I don't think I'll make it into work and Andy doesn't have access to a computer.
Wish us luck.
Oh Kim:(
I see your getting ready to leave now. You'll definitely be in our thoughts and prayers today along with crossed fingers toes and paws for luck.

I'm so sorry Chipper isn't feeling well, and all so sudden! You'd think the people at the shelter would have noticed him not feeling well, but it happened so quickly. :( I rarely come to Dog Health so I am glad you alerted me!
Kimmy, I finished your signature the other day but haven't had a chance of uploading it yet. Here it is if you'd still like it. :)
{{HUGS}} to you and Chipper, we'll be thinking of you.
Kay...I think he was okay for about 5 days after they brought him home.
What a terrible thing for everyone to be going through. Poor Chipper........he really wants to feel better that's for sure.
I hope you will have some good updates for us. I will be sending some prayers for you and will keep watching this thread.
Hey Sweetie I got your pm. I'm so sorry Chipper isn't feeling well. Let me know what you find out from the vets sweetie.
Kimmy and Andy,
You and Chipper are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the vet finds out what the problem is and can cure Chipper.
Please call me when you find out anything. I'm off from work today and await any news.

It's like deja vu honestly. Walking into that clinic I instantly remembered the way it smelled and sounded when Kia was admitted. Only difference is that Kia was wheeled in on a gurney while Chipper waited with me.
He's been admitted and is on an IV and catheter. Dr. Beal and his staff are very nice and I like him. They did a fecal test for parvo right off the bat and it came back negative. A good sign, but Dr. Beal says there is a slim chance it could still be parvo.
They are going to do extensive blood and urine tests. If his white blood cell count is low, he will be put into the isolation ward where they will test more extensively for parvo. If his white blood cell count is normal, they will focus on Addison's Disease and whipworms. If those tests come back negative or inconclusive, they will take X-rays to look for a blockage. They will also do a test for salmonella just in case.
But for the time being they feel they are dealing with Addison's Disease, whipworms, or a blockage.
During the exam, Chipper was found to have a slow heart rate, his ears were noticiably cold, but his lymph nodes are okay.
They expect to have a clear answer today, will keep him overnight, and hopefully he can come home tomorrow. :)
If I don't hear back from them by 3 p.m., they told me to call in for an update.
I contacted Oakland County and Chipper was picked up as a stray in Waterford, MI. He was already neutered, so either he ran away or someone let him go.
Dr. Beal said Chipper's lucky I got him in when I did. He's a very sick puppy. :(
I hope they are able to pinpoint the cause quickly and get him taken care of and on the road to recovery. I was lucky I got Ginger when I did too, and she has been a joy in my life. I have faith that Chipper will be just fine and go on to have a long happy life in your family.
Kimmy,Poor Chipper.:( I'm still keeping Chipper in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that you receive some good news tonight. Whatever he has I sure hope that it's not serious and can be easily treated. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
I hope you don't mind that I have put Chipper's picture on my desktop so I can see his adorable facie everytime I'm at the computer. Me and the girls are praying so hard for him and talking to his picture. GET WELL CUTIE PIE!!!
{{{{{HUGS}}}}} :) :) :)
Hoping that whatever he has him sick, goes away so he can be a happy healthy puppy romping around.........
((hugs))........and good vibes your way
the poor baby! :( I really hope it isn't parvo or anything serious. :( I will keep you, your family, and Chipper in my thoughts and prayers. (((HUGS))) please keep us updated, which I am sure you will. :)
Chipper's in the right place to get well. I pray that they figure it out quickly so he doesn't have to feel sick for much longer.
Gosh, I'm so sorry that you're going through this with your new baby! Prayers are definitely on the way for Chipper. Did the vet consider colitis? It can be really nasty and bloody diarrhea, but easy to treat. I certainly hope they can figure it out soon and get him on his way to feeling good!
Bless your heart. He's certainly one lucky puppy to have landing in such a good home!
**hugs**

Just got off the phone with Dr. Beal.
The blood test showed negative for Addison's Disease. So they took an X-ray and found what may be a partial obstruction. They are giving him barium right now to verify if it's an obstruction or not. He'll call me with the results and of course if it is an obstruction, he'll need surgery.
Sounds like they're making progress. I'm still praying for Chipper. You & Andy are his angels, Kim!
Oh Kim, you must be so worried about Chipper. :( I would too. I am
however, very glad he is in the care of caring, knowledgeable people.
Thanks for keeping us all updated on him. Prayers & positive vibes going
out to you both. ((Hugs)) Liz, Smokey & Maggie.
A ONE TIME Obstruction and a quick surgical "fix" sounds good to me!Quote:

Hopefully the "what's wrong" will be definitive and suggest a positive and permanent solution.
Give The Boy a gentle {{{Hug}}} when you get to see him.

Kimmy & Andy,
I'll keep Chipper in my prayers. I just said a prayer that the white coats find whatever is ailing poor Chipper and fix him ASAP. I thanked God that He put you both and Chipper together so that he could be helped and then loved forever and ever with you, Kia and the others. :)
The 'good' news about an obstruction is that it *usually* is an isolated incident. After he's treated, he'll be OK. If its IBD, or Ulcerative Colitis, it can be treated with special food and some medications to help with his symptoms.
Either way, whatever they do and/or find, Chipper will remain in my prayers for a quick recovery and the happy home he so deserves with you both.
Hugs & Love,
Kelly and Kitties :D
Oh please please please let this work!!!
Please!!!!
I hope it's just an obstruction and nothing too serious. :) something that they can fix.
Oh Kimmy! My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours that it's a simple fix. Poor Chipper!
We're worried :( ... it's been a while since you uppy-dated.Quote:
