Not only did you let us know the good news, but you supplied another beautiful Nakita pic ........... thanks :D
I hope she is on the road to recovery with no more set backs. She is such a pretty cat too, beautiful.
Thanks everyone!
Unfortunately, Nakita is not out of the woods yet. Of course, it's great that her red cell count went up, but the values are still shown to be anemic and could easily change again. There's something going on in her body and now we have to start testing to figure that out. All the past things....like the allergies, itching, vomiting and hyperesthesia could all be signs of this underlying condition. We're thinking its auto-immune related. What a nightmare this has been.
Plus, she didn't eat much at all yesterday, so my hopes were dashed that she looked perky and getting better. I had to syringe feed her yesterday and I just finished another feeding just now. I'm going to run out and buy some Innova EVO and some Nutri-cal. EVO is the only food she went nuts over in the past and I'm hoping it will bring her appetite back. I'm stuck between a stone and a hard place......give her EVO and have her allergies get out of whack again or give her Prescription allergy food and watch her not eat. Her current weight is 4 pounds......she was 5.2 pounds last year. She's so fragile I'm scared to pick her up. I'm dropping by the vets this morning to pick up more canned a/d food and see how long I should syringe feed her as well. :(
Arrrhhhhggg! I think I'm going to pull out my hair if something doesn't change soon. I was so happy to hear her red cell levels went up but that mood changed fast when I saw Nakita still tired and not eating yesterday. Wednesday we're starting the rest of the testing.
I know I've asked a lot already, but could you still keep Nakita in your thoughts? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens between now and Wednesday since my vet's office is closed for the holidays.
Well I hope your vet is able to figure out what is going on with that sweet little girl. If it is a autoimmune disorder how would they go about trying to fix that problem? Is there a way to help with that?? Or is that what the prednisone is used for?? Man, you poor thing you have been through alot it makes for some very long days and nights when you watch your beloved friend slowly get weaker by the day. I will continue praying for her we all really enjoy your little girl here.(Including my husband) He too thinks she is one of the most beautiful kitties that he has ever seen. And as you know we completely know what you are going through our 6 yr old siamese/Himalayan cross had many of the same symptoms as Nakita. And having to go through this is extremely hard.
Does the vet think that any of the blood disorders could have anything to do with the fact of her not eating enough??? Could the prescription food maybe not supporting her needs. As far as iron content?? Just wondering. Good luck to the both of you my prayers will be with you and Nakita during the holidays.
Heidi :(
Have you thought of using the assitance of a holistic vet?
My holistic vet is also an empath and can and will do readings thru a picture very similiar to the pet psychic that a lot of people have been using here. BC_blondie contacted her (the vet) for one of her dogs and she helped a lot.
When I took Kylie to her it was b/c I wanted her to check her out and tell me any info she could. She started treating Kylie with accupressure and chiropractic and giving me some things to give her at home and in a nutshell her systems were starting to be effected by the fuzziness (she has had a couple of black-out type seizures I would also consider them stroke like b/c she is completely limp during them and has no control over her body functions and I was told by the pet psychic that during the episodes it is BLACK- quiet-peaceful- no pain but she is extremely drained after them) or shutting down if you will and they were just going one by one. After one treatment the vet said that her brain started feeling less fuzzy and more clear. (Due to the empath - she said as soon as Kylie came into the room her brain got fuzzy and it was hard and slow to think) Kylie has definately turned around since her treatments with the dr. but she in no way shape or form had any of the problems like Nakita especially size wise! For every 6 Nakitas there would be one of Kylie!
if you are interested in contacting this Vet via email let me know I can give you her website.
continued hugs and prayers.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. Nakita with certainly be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope things start looking up for both of you soon.
I've never stopped sending my thoughts to Nakita!
I hope you find soon what's wrong with the little girl.
Can you get Feline Liquid Rebound Diet from your vet?
It is meant for long term sustainance during illnesses.
Prayers rising for Dear Nakita
Kass, I sure hope that Nakita will start eating on her own soon and also gain some weight. Her mouth may still be sore from her dental cleaning and teeth extractions. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent her way.
We are all sending our prayers and thoughts and good wishes along to Nakita.
Pat, Peony, Sydney, Priscilla, Poppy, and Elmer
My prayers have been with Nakita since I first read that she got sick and will continue to be with her until she is completely well again.
{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} for the very worried meowmie and daddy.
Just an update and to thank everyone again for sticking with us on this journey! ;)
Its been touch and go over the holidays. I force fed her last Thursday, Friday and part of Saturday. We ran out and got some Innova Evo which she loves and she's been eating it. She hasn't eaten 1/4 cup a day yet (her regular amount) but she getting there. Her weight has increased by 0.25 lbs this morning. Not a lot, but it's going to be a while before the weight gets back on her, since she was probably loosing weight the last month or so because of the dental issue (and allergy food trials which she hated).
She *hated* being force fed and between the dental, force feeding and giving her the Prednisone I think she now hates me. :( She basically stays in a box we have for her in the living room because she knows it's hard for me to get her out from there.
We took her to the vets in order to get another blood sample to verify her red blood levels. Last Monday they were at 14.9%, last Thursday they were at 21% and we're not sure what today's tests will show. For a regular cat they should be between 25%-45%. Since we haven't had annual blood test for Nakita, we're not sure at this point what is 'normal' for her or when these values changed. Here's another good reason to get annual blood tests - so you have a baseline from earlier tests.
It's so hard right now seeing Nakita avoiding me. She's never held a grudge before and always looks for pets and snuggles throughout the day. Now, she has stopped sleeping with me at nights and just looks at me with fear in her eyes. :( It's literally breaking my heart since Nakita has always been my shadow and followed me or wanted to be near me all the time.
My poor girl - don't you know I'm just trying to get you better? :(
Tomorrow morning we should have the test results back from the lab. If the values have fallen, we will need to start more testing and medication trials. Please keep those 'healthy vibes' going for Nakita.

One nice thing that did happen at the vet is that they placed Nakita's Christmas Card right at the front desk. They said it was such a pretty Christmas card they wanted to display it right at the front of the office. The front desk staff said they are getting comments on it all the time. It made me smile which hasn't happened often over the last few emotional days.
I know how sad it is to have your baby shun you.
Can you find a special place, or blanket or something that you both can share, that nothing bad ever happens to her?
For Bella and I it was the laundry room, on the washer. I won her back by trying to steal cuddles up there.
And, if you can possibly delegate any of the 'bad mommy' duties to someone else, it will help.
With Malfi, we give him some butter on the end of my finger after he takes his meds. He likes that.
Thinking of Nakita.
poor you and Nakita -
still keeping you in my thoughts and prayers
Can Nakita have any cat treats? Maybe Medi-Treats by Hills?
Something like that can re-establish a good bond...and this fear is temporary, I think. Or have Rob cuddle her and you pat her, if she feels safe with him.
If she is up to it, play time works too! :)
Poor little girl and you - HUGS!
I'm so sorry- up to now Filou has never been upset with us for long but I know the feeling when they try to get away from you.
I think it is a good sign that Nakita increased her weight- ok 0,25 lb is not much but it would be like 5% of her weight- so that is something.
I have been thinking of you and hope now her blood level will increase.
Kisses to the sweet girl.
Oh darling Nakita, I hope you start eating again on your own soon. You should know your momma loves you so much.
Kass, I know it hurts, but I'm sure Nakita knows you love her even if she doesn't understand why she must endure all the feedings and meds.
I hope some tests will shed light on her problem. *HUGS*
Poor Nakita.:(I hope that Nakita will continue to eat on her own and gain more weight and that her blood work comes back within the normal range. I'm sure that she won't hold a grudge forever. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent her way.
Poor Nakita and poor you. I know how you feel with Nakita giving you the cold shoulder. Tigger was like that with me when she was sick and I felt horrible too, but know that you are doing the right thing for her and I'm pretty sure deep down Nakita knows that you love her dearly and that you are not trying to hurt her by doing what you need to do for her.
I will continue to keep you and Nakita in my thoughts and prayers....keep us posted (((HUGS))) Meg
Just received the test results and Nakita's red blood cell count is holding at 21% (normal range 25%-45%). My vet is currently out of town so I'll have to talk to her next Tuesday about how to go forward with these results.
We can either keep monitoring her blood levels and see if they change or remain steady or go through with the bone marrow biopsy (invasive and not sure if I want to put her through another procedure so soon).
Nakita is looking more alert and is eating, but she's still hiding out in her safe place (a cardboard box in the living room). I want her to get back to her comfortable self before making her go through any more procedures.
Thanks guys for your support! ;)
Hopefully this is a normal umber for her. Praying tht she continues to do well.
And do not worry, you will regain her trust. (even if it seems like it will never happen). they always forgive you.
Alert and eating- these are good signs. I suppose I would let her be like that before I check anything more.
Again some hugs for both of you.
Take it easy, sweet Emerald girl.
I'm glad to hear that she gained a little weight. At least that is a positive step in the right direction. :) I bet you once she starts to eat more she will probably realize that you were only trying to help her and she will quickly come around to you again.
I woke up this morning, and Nakita had a fever. :( We took her to the vet clinic and did a more comprehensive blood test, gave her sub-fluids and also brought home some pills to increase her appetite. I'll also be increasing her Prednisone. She didn't eat last night, either.
I don't know what's going on anymore, but as each day passes, it's looking more serious. I'll have the test results on Tuesday (because of the holiday) but will take her to the emergency vet, if needed in the meantime. :(
Singing for Nakita.
I have to think of Malfi who was in a very bad shape and it had to do something with auto-immune problems.
I hope Nakita gets over it.
Love and hugs to you.
How frustrating and sad. Prayers for Nakita.
Kass, I'm so sorry to hear this.:( I sure hope that Nakita will feel better soon. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent her way. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
I just really wish that the doctors could find something, ANYTHING that could give you any indication of what is going on with this little girl. I am praying for the both of you till we hear more from you later.......
The test results that I get back on Tuesday will be the next step to identifying what is causing Nakita to be anemic. From the first two blood tests, we know we're dealing with non-regenerative anemia (meaning the bone marrow is NOT producing red blood cells) that is currently mild (her value of 21% is termed 'mild').Quote:

Now with the fever, I'm not sure what is happening (maybe infection, maybe something else).
You can read more about it here----> Anemia
With all the research I have done the last few years regarding Nakita's hyperesthesia, IBS, allergies and now the anemia....I should be an honorary vet tech by now.
I hope it is auto-immune...that means monitoring medication, but not as bad as the other two...even kidney stuff can be handled and give years of healthy life to Nakita!
HUGS and PRAYERS to brave Meowmie and beautiful Nakita!
