Oh Christa, I am so happy to hear that Brodie has kept his food down. If he has kept the morsels of dry food down also, I don't see why you can't continue to give him 4-5 at a time.
Come on there Brodie, keep meowmie happy by keeping your food down and getting better. :)

What about using Feline Rebound diet. (available from your vet) It is meant for long term liquid nourishment.
It doesn't answer the question of why he is vomiting, but it can keep him stronger while you find out.
Brodie did keep down a few morsels last night successfully! 6 to be exact! YAY!!!
And I think that hubby put out a few in their bowls last night before he went to bed. I haven't asked him how many yet. Not even sure if Brodie ate any of those. Josie might have gobbled them all up before he had a chance. - Brodie hasn't had the appetite that he once had. :eek:
He hasn't ate any of the morsels that I've offered him this morning yet. Just not digging the *duck bills* this morning. But I am hopeful that this might work . . . to get this new food into his system.
It is funny though, he can't forget about the wet food in the kitchen! Every time that it is "feeding time" he tries to get me to follow him in there! LOL Even TELLS me where I'm supposed to feed him . . . so funny!
Come on Brodie, lets get that food in you and you do your part and keep it DOWN! If little bits is what it takes, that'll get him "jump started".. LETS HOPE!

I had to BEG him to eat them this morning. I will try some more later & the wet food again this evening. I am going to keep him on the same schedule & see if I can keep him from throwing up that way. It would be AWESOME to go for a whole day without any vomiting!
He has been really active today. He LOVES that laser! He & Josie even had a little wrestling match this morning. He jumped on her back and she growled at him . . . it was so cute, LOL . . . they chased & ran . . . I'm glad to see they're back to being *friendly* again. Playing & hanging out.
Maybe that's the key...tiny, tiny portions spaced out during the day. However, if you work, that could be a problem because you would be gone a lot of hours and he would get hungry and want more. Still, it's a start. Keeping fingers and paws crossed! XXX
So far, so good...maybe after a while of tiny bits of food, he'll be able to hold down larger amounts. His poor tummy - and you and him - have been through a lot!

Poor Brodie and you. I'm very sorry to hear about all the vomiting Brodie is doing, I so understand how worried you must be. Has your vet mentioned or considered IBD? It's very common in cats and does cause chronic vomiting. I've mentioned this before but I don't know if you looked into it more, it's usually treated with prednisone to control vomiting. I sure hope Brodie starts keeping more of his food down and feels better soon. Big hugs to both of you.

I did discuss the possibilities of IBD with my vet and she said that she's not convinced that it is IBD. I think that the only way to tell is to do a biopsy of his intestines - there's no real "test" for IBD.Quote:

edit: YAY! Another meal stayed down! Fingers crossed that this will be a day FREE of vomit!!! Well, I can't believe it but we had a VOMIT FREE DAY yesterday!!!
I have been feeding him some *duck* kibbles every 2 to 3 hours and he has been doing really well that way. I've even been increasing it a little each time. I just gave him 16 kibbles! Waiting to see how he does with that many! He seems to be getting his appetite back! He's been begging for food & licking the empty bowls. :rolleyes: He has also been continuing to keep down the wet food in the evenings. Seems like he's been feeling better - been even more active & spunky since he's been NOT vomiting.
Continue with your prayers. I KNOW they are helping my little guy! :)

Well, the day isn't over yet, but so far, it's been ANOTHER Vomit Free Day! Fingers crossed for 2 in a row!
16 kibbles has been the most he's eaten at once. I tried to get him to eat 20 at one time but he turned his nose up at that one and refused to eat. Guess he wasn't hungry. So I waited and then he did eat the wet food at 7:30. I will give him some more kibble tonight before bed. Might try the 20 pieces again. :) That's definitely progress from the 5 or 6 that I was giving him yesterday!

Christa, do go giving him to much now, give his system time to get use to it and adjust before you up it to much... GO SLOW! Brodie is still in my thought and prayers!
Christa, this is wonderful news!!!:D I hope that he'll be able to keep his food down and that you'll be able to gradually increase the amount. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way.
Christa - I am excited for you that Brodie is doing so well - but do pace him! His tummy has likely shrunk over the last few weeks - I KNOW it is hard to not want him all better right now, but just go slow with the kibble, as Laura said.
He must be getting happier all the time!

LOL . . . I have been taking it slow. Trust me, 20 pieces isn't a lot. Especially with this new food. The *duck & pea* kibble is the tiniest little kibble I've ever seen anyway! Probably smaller than an actual pea!Quote:

He just threw up his breakfast . . . on my nice expensive braided rug. :rolleyes: I hope it comes out! I just scrubbed it with my SpotBot. See how it dries. If it doesn't, I'll just turn it over. ;)
Well, 2 days was good anyway. I just hope that this isn't a MAJOR setback. I don't think it will be. I shouldn't have expected him to quit cold turkey. He was really bad off . . . I don't know, maybe I was pushing him too hard.

Oh my... I was so excited to read the posts of Brodie keeping his food down, and now another little setback. Come on Brodie! You can keep your food down! We know you are hungry, but you have to go slow little one. Keep the faith Christa! I know this is so hard on you and your husband. Please keep us posted.

Has the vet said anything about steroids to help inflamation? His stomach has got ot be awfully inflamed and sore by now, and there's got ot be somethign to help with the irritation. I know my vet put Pouncer on for inflamation of his bladder and it really helped Pouncer. I know bladders and stomachs are totally different organs but the concept is the same. I would think the steriods would reduce the swelling and irritation and help him keep his food down.
We talked about steriods and she was willing to do a trial of steriods if I wanted but she was afraid that they could do as much damage as good. She said that with his severe vomiting problems, there was a possibility that the steriods could actually just irritate him even more and cause him to get an ulcer or have diarrhea - I decided to just give it some more time - not make it worse than just the vomiting.Quote:

Herbalife has a good one too, if you know anyone who sells it. They have an aloe drink too - but how to get Brodie(or any cat) to drink that? :D

I'm sorry to hear this setback. Brodie will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope he feels better soon and you can get his vomiting under control.
:( Just tried 7 pieces. That didn't work. I hope he can hold down the wet food this evening. I'd say that he'll vomit it up though, the way things are going today.
OH NO!!! Oh Christa, this is so sad. Gosh I was so hoping that precious Brodie was going to go for a 3 non vomit day. Poor baby and poor you.

Oh, he is FULL of energy! Even more so since he's started actually keeping *some* food in his tummy. He gets really hyper in the mornings, even after just throwing up his breakfast :rolleyes: LOL . . .
