I am glad to see the UK is finally introducing the smoking ban, NZ implemented the law last year and it is great, now if only UK and NZ could get some control over the drinking that goes on in our countries. :(
Both my parents smoke. My dad is trying to quit, and he IS going to do it, he's very serious. He's stopping completely in a few days. My mom says she's going to. *haha right...*
I hate people telling me at school that my clothes smell like smoke. I can't help it and it's embarresing. Plus it makes my asthma even worse.
I think it is sad that your parents think it is ok to continue smoking around you, they should at least smoke out of the house, my sister n law and brother n law both smoked but had a no smoking policy in the house or around their children, it is the least any parent who choses to smoke should do, they are forcing you to be a passive smoker and with all the knowledge one has today that is just as bad for you, glad to hear you dad is willing to at least try to give it up, hope you mother follows his good example.
IMO any parent who smokes around a child with asthma is very irresponsible and it is a form of child abuse, i know that is a hard line to take but it is how I view it.

Maybe it was easy for you, but for me - it is very hard to quit when I have so much stress in my life...
For me, if I don't have my morning cigarette - I will sweat, have tremors and be extremely irritable. The only way to cure that is to take a drag. Quitting would help to, but my loved ones around me are who I would take my anger out on.
I'm all for the smoking bans as well! :p
For me quitting smoking was so easy , however i do appreciate it is not like that for everyone, but i do agree loosing weight is harder in the aspect that we have to eat to survive, therefore food cannot be eliminated from the house as say liquor or smokes can, however with smoking it is a chemical addiction that is the problem for many, each and everyone of us is different, we can only encourage people to quit and support them in their desire to do so, not everyone can do cold turkey, but if you can it is the best way in the end i think, as patches etc still are giving you a small intake of nicotine, just my thoughts on the subject, but yes smoking bans are fair IMO.
what good comes of smoking?? its banned in all places like pubs, restaurants in nznow.since last year. its pretty good. now they have to smoke outside.

I am a casual smoker...I usually smoulder.....And while I do agree with some places out lawing smoking, I find it stupid that some establishments are not allowed to have smokers.....
Freedom of choice maybe?
Smoking has been banned here in all public and government buildings.
Only exception is bars that serve drinks only & nobody under 21.It's
also banned in local jails & state prisons.
I am a smoker who does not object to smoking restrictions in all public
buildings.If I'm around non smokers, I just don't smoke.
Lillycat and I have a 'fave' restaurant, nearly equi-distant between our homes, and they have sweet potatoe french fries- WAH! We can say we are eating healthy, and no one can really say much (okay, you could say something, but, I am not going to listen). I never gave it much thought that there was smoking in the pub section. Until...until....I carried my infant son through that room....
Effective 3/1- smoking is no longer permitted in the establishment, and I am eternally thankful. While I can over look subjecting my 'mature' lungs to such toxins, I can't my baby's.
Like someone said above, smoke all you want, it is your health...but, when it effects mine? I want a say-so in the matter.
To those of you that smoke, I do think it is an addiction. I wish you strenght to overcome it, but, I realize the fight has to be yours. :(
