Puzzle 140
Resembling a small squirrel with large ears and a tufted tail, these rodents are sometimes referred to as the poor mans chinchilla. It is the most common mammal in Chile, numbering more than 100 per acre. They have large, bright, dark eyes and long whiskers. The fur is soft to the touch and brown to gray brown in color with a paler shade of yellow brown found above and below the eyes. The belly hair is creamy yellow. The tail is fragile and can easily seperate from the body. The grinding surface of the cheek teeth resembles a figure eight shape, giving the family it's scientific name, Octodontidae, meaning "eight teeth. " They enjoy taking dust baths. They are quickly becoming a favorite companion among animal lovers, however they are illegal in some states.

Puzzle 141
That's the thing about a Labrador Retriever ~ you were born for fun.
Seldom was your loopy, freewheeling mind cluttered by contemplation, and never at all by somber worry; every day was a romp. What else could there possibly be to life?

Puzzle 143
I am a rodent that comes in many different colors and with many different markings. I also can have curly hair, wavy hair, or even no hair at all. Some people do not like me because of my long tail. I have been domesticated for a while now and have become a very popular pet rodent. I make several vocalizations including loud chirps or squeeks when I am frightened. Some of us are born with large round ears set low on the head. This is referred to as being a "DUMBO". Can you guess what I am ?

The color point in siamese cats and rats is heat related. Cool areas are darker. In fact, siamese kittens are born white because of heat inside the mother's uterus before birth. This heat keeps the kitten's hair from darkening on the points.

Puzzle 145
Researchers at two universities have discovered that blood of both the European
and African hedgehogs contains a lipoprotein identical to one of those found in
human blood. This lipoprotein contributes to the formation of clots that cause
heart attacks. In the past, this particular lipoprotein was only found in humans
and a few nonhuman primates. Research is presently being conducted and our
prickly little friends may eventually contribute a solution to a human health
problem.

Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: "Because the animals are like us." Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals, and the answer is: "Because the animals are not like us." Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction. ~ Charles R. Cats are the ultimate narcissists. You can tell this because
of all the time they spend on personal grooming.
