Hey it was a pleasant surprise for me too! The older dog was tired, so went to her crate voluntarily, and I put a bandana and some bonker skulls that light up on the neck of the younger dog. One or two woofs and she decided this might be fun! The kids loved her!
OK, I'm going to admit what we did for Halloween. I knew that Honey would go nuts with the trick or treaters, so she and Lilly stayed in the backyard and we went to another neighborhood with one of my daughter's friends!!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/redface.gif My house was completely dark, so hopefully no one came. It probably looked pretty weird considering I've had all kinds of pumpkins and ghost lights lit around the front porch for two weeks now. Not last night!!!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif
My Honey tends to be a little nervous around strangers and I thought they would just be better off in the back where they wouldn't hear anything. No complaints from the neighbors, so I guess all was well!!
By the way, KYS, as for "shovelling" the possum. I was trying to pick him up with these pincher things my neighbor gave me to put him in a trash bag, and ultimately the trash. We were in the pitch, black dark, with my daughter holding the flashlight. No husband here to help!!! That's when I saw that he was still breathing!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif
Ok, I've got one for you guys. My border collie is a purebred FOOD HOUND. When it's time for his and Annie's cookies at night, he starts to drool and foam like a rabid dog. It starts to run from his mouth like a faucet as soon as I hit the cookie cupboard. Last night, I got the cookies out and started to put them thru their paces. I wasn't thinking and had Max "dance" for me (actually spins around in circles 3 times real fast). Anyway, in the process of doing this, he turned into a canine sprinkler, spewing dog drool all over my kitchen. Yikes! Needed Nov 1` off to recuperate-just kidding! Cody, the stinker, knew something was up when I put the babygate up between the bannister and the wall to the kitchen. Waited over 1 hr no kids, so we went out for our walk when the 2 neighbor kids showed up and since, thankfully, Cody LOVES them, no problem. The next few times, he ran up the steps and barked through the bannister. The 8 older kids wanted to take him with (yeah, right) since he started whining (they showed no fear) but the last 2 older kids jumped back 2 feet and jumped up 10! Entire candy transaction... a millisecond! No more kids after that (?), another walk and all was well. I panicked for nothing, but I wasn't sure what to expect. Thank God it's once a year! Ha Ha Teena! Not very appetizing but I can picture the dog and your husband's reaction and have to LOL! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I would watch out for HIS gag reflex!
I have read thru some of your stories... aren't dogs just the best entertainment around!
Here is a few of my dogs weird behaviors...
1. Lexi and Sasha both run in and out of the doggie door - and I mean in and out... they will literally walk into the house, turn around and go back out.. continuously! They usually only do it when I am trying to sleep of course http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/rolleyes.gif! I work graves so they have the house to themselves during the day while hubby is at work. All I hear is that damn doggie door flapping all day long!! Until I get up and close it off after I am fuming mad and wide awake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. My girls seriously french kiss each other! The sit there nose to nose and kiss each other! Also, sometimes one dog will lick the other dog's face or lick inside of her ear! Lexi is the dominate dog and I normally see Sasha doing the licking to Lexi but it does go both ways. Weird...
3. In response to 'how did they learn that?' I wonder that all of the time. Lexi seems to understand everything I say! Sasha doesn't but she is too cute so I don't care! One example is one day I was sitting in my computer room typing away and I heard Lexi's toy dinosaur roaring... she has somehow managed to damage the voice box inside and if she chews it just right it keeps on roaring and won't stop until you pick it up and click the box. Well, she was in the livingroom and I yelled out "Lexi! Bring me your damn dinosaur!" Next thing I knew I heard the collar and she came down the hallway with her dinosaur in-mouth and gave it to me. I shut it off and sent her on her way! Saved me from having to get up!
4. This is kind of a question.. and I don't want to get to gory... Do any of you ladies ever notice your dog getting extra clingy during "that time of the month"? I know that sounds totally weird and gross but Lexi just seems to want to be near me or in my lap whenever that time rolls around... otherwise she is usually independent. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Some bitches suffer more than others during and after their season, just like women! Hormonal changes to facilitate breeding can play havoc with a bitch's emotional state. As the natural consequences of a season, mating and whelping, have been removed from the dog she is confused and upset by the way she feels. Another good reason to spey your bitches!
Your dogs sound very entertaining, I've got some good ones too about my 2 golden retriever mixes.
Upon entering the house, they always circle the couch completely at least once at full speed (it's right by the back door) even though there's plenty of room to get around it.
When the grass in the backyard is high, one of them will not go out into it to "go potty." She will go right next to the deck. Evidently she doesn't like the tickling feeling on her legs!
The same dog once had ants in her food bowl outside, so we moved it inside. She does not eat until she has pushed the food bowl all around the kitchen with her nose, and she throws food out of the bowl with her nose to check for ants.
They are both terrified by any toy that squeaks. The big dog will actually growl at the toy.

Our smallest dog "Flap," is a Chihuahuah/Pikenese mix. When he was small, I always used to get irritated with him because he would lick and bite all the time. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif When he finally realized I didn't like him to do that, he would bite his licence tag on his collar and hold it in his mouth untill I stopped petting him http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/wink.gif He still does that to this very day and he's a little over 7yr. old!!!!! Not really odd behavior but on Halloween I came home from work early to take my daughter trick-or-treating. I get inside the house and my basset/lab Jeffrey greets me at the door in a frilly little pink dress. My daughter had dressed him in her doll's dress, complete with ruffles and a bow. We went out and he was the hit of the evening! He was very patient ( he's usually hyper)kissed the children, allowed them to hug him, posed for pictures and did not once tug at all the flowing ruffles. He did wet the dress but he enjoyed all the attention he was getting. I had a project to finish for work so I rushed home about eight, got my daughter to bed and I sat down at the computer. I finished at about 11:00 and as the norm said "Bedtime, Jeffrey" My mind was on the project and the mountain of papers I had waiting on my desk at work. Jeffrey hopped out of the rocker and came to me still wearing his beautiful pink dress, ruffles, bow and all! I had to laugh. What a great stress releiver!
