Good news!
Well, the vet called, said they did xrays and might have found an obstruction. They said they were going to do a barium study, basically like Milk of Magnesia with radiation in it and see where it went in her intestines.
I called Mom to tell her and she said...did you check that poop she did last night at midnight? I told her I had looked at it, what size or color, etc...So I went outside.........this part is gross......I started to pull the poop apart. Luckily, it's 25 degrees out right now, so it was mostly almost frozen.
I found some sort of material in it..like cloth or cotton but it was all bunched together.I showed it Brian and he screamed...Oh no! Don't you use tampons?
So, we called the vet and told them we think that is what it was. The only type tampon I was using was the smallest ones, like Juniors size. I think she may have found an unused one in my purse. And there was a good amount of the tampon in that poop.
The vet called back and thanked me for doing what I did, that now she knows how to treat her. She said she has seen a lot of dogs in her practice who have done the same thing. Bailey may not need surgery, she has slowed way down on her vomiting. They think the barium stuff for the Xray may help her to pass it out If not, she may need surgery, but at least it would be a simple enough surgery.
I am so relieved but so mad at myself. Why was I so d**n stupid? I should have stored those things just like I store poisons.......I'm throwing all the rest of them out so she can never get into anything like that again.
Gawd....you know, usually those things cost 25 cents in a dispenser in the bathroom...this one has cost me $700 and about 10 years off my life! But I am so happy....my baby willl be OK.
Thank you so much for all your prayers and concerns. It really helped Brian and I alot while we didn't know what was going on. Actually I feel really bad right now that all of you wonderful people were praying for Bailey and she ate a tampon, which is all my fault for even having them in the house.
*going to go curl up and hide under the bed covers for a month*

Thank goodness you figured out what it was ........ even tho it was gross :p
Happy healing Bailey sweetheart ......

Well, Bailey is home right now. Can't talk long, computer is upstairs and she is downstairs.
The vet did the barium xrays. The barium stuff passed all the way through her system, so that may mean that she doesn't have an obstruction. Or it may mean she has a partial obstruction.
The vet is concerned because not all the barium stuff went all the way through. Some of it was still in her stomach when it should have all been in her intestines and colon.
So, we are taking her again to the vet first thing tomorrow. They will finish the barium xray then and decide if she needs exploratory surgery or not
She has only thrown up three times today, once before she left the vet and twice since she's been home. But we are talking only a tablespoon or two of bile, not lots like before. And she did drink some water and held it down for at least two hours, so that's good too.
So, please keep praying for her. I hope she doesn't have to have surgery, but I will do anything to get my Bailey-girl back to being her old self.
((((((hugs))))) to you all, you are such awesome caring people. :)

Oh poor Bailey... Guinness must be laughing at you for what's been causing all of this!
Poor girl! Atleast she's home, and i'm sure a lot happier there. Still thinking of you all!

Prayers and good thoughts to you and Bailey. I am glad that she is getting better. Who would have thought that she would have gotten into such a thing. It is a good reminder to all of us pet owners to take a second look around and ensure that our babies can't get into ANYTHING!!
-
Glad to hear Bailey's home--I hope she continues to get better, and that the obstruction is completely gone.
Keep us updated about her vet visit tomorrow, and I will be keeping her in my prayers.

Oh no Bailey! This is embarassing to admit, but Nebo ate a used pad once, he got it out of the garbage. :o He threw it up though, luckily...that was sooooooooooo gross!
I'm glad she's home and hopefully she will be feeling much better soon!

:( aw, silly Bailey! why do dogs eat these things?...
praying that she doesn't have to go into surgery ^^

Aww..Thank Dog she'll be alright!!!!
Dogs will Eat Anything!!!!
Feel Better Bailey!!!

Why do they insist on eating things like this? It was kind of funny reading it. I do hope Bailey doesn't have to have surgery, though. Poor doggie. Give her a hug from me.

BAD NEWS
Bad news...
Bailey will be going into surgery at 1PM EST. The doctor says the barium is just not draining from her stomach into her intestines properly. She thinks the tampon may be lodged in the duodenum, which I think is the part that goes from the stomach to the intestine.
I hate being at work right now, but there is no other place for me to be. I don't have enough leave time. Maybe I can take it as sick time, I'll have to ask my boss. She has two pitbulls and a pomeranian of her own, so maybe she'll take pity on me and loan me some leave time.
Anyway, the surgery is to be performed by the owner of the practice, Dr. Kuhn at Cary Street Veterinary Hospital. She is a top of the line vet, very caring. She said that they will probably have to keep her tonite. If the surgery is simple enough, Bailey will stay there tonite and Dr. Kuhn will go check on her a few times. I can probably go visit her as they do stay open until 8PM.
I've already called my dad to tell him the surgery will be $1500. We've already spent $800 on the ER vet and the regular vet yesterday. He said not to worry about the money and to call him after the procedure is done.
I am such a bad mom....I just want to shoot myself right now.:(

Oh I'm sorry to hear that Baily is going to have to undergo the surgery after all:(
Prayers being said that all goes fine.
What wonderful parents you have:)
-
you certainly are not a bad mom!
Accidents happen!
This was out of you're control. It can happen to any one of us.
Keegan ate a nylon sock of my Grandma's when she was a puppy. I was just fortunate that it went all the way thru with no problems.
{{hugs to all}}
