Bless your heart
Donna, I know you're hurting and all of us who have responded to your sad story of Luka and the Cat are hurting too.
You did what is right: you took two helpless animals away from defective human beings (what I'd love to do to them can't be spoken!). You stood up against abusers and in memory of dear Luka and the Cat who are now free and unafraid at Rainbow's Bridge let every animal lover pledge to take action, just as you did. We must pressure our respective governments to change laws to protect animals. Abusers need to be imprisoned, fined, and forbidden to ever have a pet again, be near animals, or work with animals.
Through your tears, Donna -- look across to Rainbow's Bridge where you will see Luka, unchained & free playing with The Cat who must be purring with pleasure now. I'm sure they are now your guardian angels.

Hi there,
I haven't been on for some time now because my computer came down w/a virus and I was without it for several weeks. Aaaaaargh! But I posted today and saw this post, too, and just had to write.
Yes, absolutely you did the right thing. Sometimes we can only save them for a day but both the dog and cat got to experience the human touch, love. It's so child-like of us to want to take them all in; not childish, child-like, innocent. I'm currently stressing over trying to place all these little babies that have made their way to my home, getting them spayed/neutered in the meantime. But we do what we gotta. You did what you had to. And the Universe blesses you for it.
Blessings,
M
