Let's save our criticism for those monsters, and not worry about someone who loves their dog enough to make it look cute ... even if it's only in their eyes.
Personally I too think they look silly, but hey, some people think my dogs look silly. As a groomer I can respect the time and effort the person put in to get their dog to look like that. All that matters is that the dog looks good to them :)
Well said Twisterdog :)
As for the question asked i may do it in the furure for special occasions or parades/ pride events etc. As a matter of fact Elvis is having his white socks dyed blue for his first ever Flyball comp ;). I have also dyed Pennys white tip on her tail before and her white socks she did not mind at all.
buddy does have a spot on top of his head that naturally grows longer, making it a kind of mohawk. On days like St. Patty's day I will use that "brush-outable" green spray on the mohawk, and on the tip of his tail. It's not permanent, and it is fun. So I'll amend my earlier opinion....
FYI, the photo is not doctored. I pulled it from a news story that this sort of dye job is ALL THE RAGE right now in China.
Interesting thread - certainly a variety of opinions!
I thought the picture was very cute - and I do have a white dog; a 3 year old female, rather dainty American Eskimo, about 25 lbs. She LOVES wearing t-shirts and vests and bandannas - prances around and loves showing off. She'll go get them so I'll put them on her.
I haven't dyed her hair . . . yet . . . but I don't think it's much different than dressing them up in something cute. Some dogs look cute and enjoy it and other dogs don't. And some humans enjoy it and some don't.
Personally I think it's just ridiculous, not harmful. Even more ridiculous that everyone's making a fuss about someone else's opinion on it.
My dogs love dressing up, bandanas, photoshoots.
I don't see how the dying is cruel or inhumane, but I certainly would nto do it to any of my dogs. I like the color their fur is already. ;) although i'm sure Simba would like to get rid of some of those gray hairs so he looks attractive to those younger pups ;)
First off I think they look cute! Not silly at all!
I don't think it's any different than putting clothes hats or anything else on them or even painting their toe nails (when we had poodles, the groomer always painted their nails). So I guess my answer would be yes.
If I had a white dog, knowing me....I probably would:p
People with white dogs, espeically poodles cuz their hair is so versatile, often do funky stuff. Unless someone is stupid enough to use HUMAN dye, vegetable dye won't hurt them. Personally, I wouldn't choose to do dye my dog, but as long as someone uses a non-harmful dye I don't see anything wrong with it. To me, it's about as silly as having 2 male (unneutered) poodles, naming them Fifi and Tinkerbelle and keeping pink bows in their hair. (True!)
Well I guess I should just say that as long as something doesn't actually hurt the dog, it's alright. But I would never do it because it's just not for me to go around with a multicolored dog. :p I don't like the way it looks.. FOR ME. Nothing wrong if it works for you, right? I'm not too crazy about letting them go around like that 24/7 but special occassions seems alright.
Thought I'd write it in since my original response was sort of empty. I just didn't want to get into anything.
i have colored tikeyas clover with markers. lol.
i think it is cute ><
i think its adorable! Gonzo gets shaved every summer, and for the first two summers we had the groomer give him a mohawk.. he loved the attention and we would spike it up and walk him around town, he looked so cool. my friend Ryan had spare hot pink hair dye and used it on Gonzo's white fur when he was 1 year, it only stayed in for a few days but it looked so rad!
i say go right ahead, gawd knows we put our dogs thru enough babying and ridiculous stuff ... bandanas, hats, shaves, collars, tshirts, most of which dogs kinda resent wearing but put up with it for our enjoyment. and i think people dressing up their dogs and spoiling them is a lot better than the fate of so many backyard dogs.
