I'd to that but the pill are gel cap type things. Simba is very good aobut chewing his food. I'm afraid he'd bite into it, taste the horrid liquid and pit it all out. He is very picky.

This was written for the Kat Folks...
But the Basic Principles Apply to Dawgs, too!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a good article on How to PILL da Kat ~
with minimal loss of blood...
How to PILL the Kat article
And we'll repeat *our* method ~
Get youselves a Pill Shooter!
They are *cheap* - less than $4.00 US;
should be availabe in any Pet Store - US and elsewhere:
cause little *stress* to either Kitty OR the Human;
almost Guarantee a successful *pilling* on the first *shot* :p
Here's a poor picture of ours - all soft plastic and made by
"Four Paws".
Pix - "Four Paws Pill Dispenser"
Dad *loves* it; Boots tolerates it;
and there hasn't been a lost or spit-out pill in years! :cool:
Y'all really Otta Get One!!
--------------------------------------------
You'll need to be a bit more "positive" with opening Simba's mouth
than you would be with a much smaller Kat;
but by using a couple fingers on the "Shooting Hand" to help Pry Open his mouth, you CAN get the Pill Shooter into the back of his mouth and Over his tongue...
Once you're in Position - just Fire Away!
NO WAY he can spit it out IF you had the Shooter over the back of his tongue and part way down his throat.
And you have an extra advantage = Other Humans in the house to help hold him!
Another way =
TRAIN HIM to accept TREATS when you ask him to "Open Up!"
Practice with tiny, GOOD tasting treats.
He OPENS WIDE and you toss one in.
Repeat, MANY times; and get him really used to taking treats this way. But each time, tosss the treat A LITTLE FARTHER BACK on his tongue. When he'll take them on the very BACK part of his tongue (where he really can't even taste it)...
it's time to Try With a *PILL* - just Don't let him :eek: SEE you pick up the :p *pill* rather than a treet. Your Hand Motions have to be exactly the same - whether it's a Treet or a *pill*.
Thanks!!
I will have to ask my parents about getting me one of those *poppers*. GREAT! My dog is a pill popper!
LOL maybe the two pill poppers, oz and simsim should get together haha
OK. I DO NOT like this. While just not giving Simba his pills i realized on the Cephalexin Casules 500mg, there's a second lable under it for "Cocoa".
I don't know, but this is bothering me alot.. Am I overreacting?
Here's the label...

This is really common. I would bet $$ that the vet tech accidentally put the wrong label on Simba's meds (maybe she accidentally typed "Cocoa" for some wierd reason) and then made the correct one for Simba. Its VERY hard to remove those labels if you mess up. Also, we've had people not purchase meds because of the cost, and if the dose is the same, we put a new label over the existing one. Usually, you are charged out (pay $$) at the reception desk. All charges (items) are checked again, so I'm sure he's on what the dr. prescribed.Quote:

If you are concerned, call the vet and make sure he wanted Simba to take that. :)
Get well soon sweet boy!!!
Yeah but they could have atleast told me. this label was out on with tape and was very easy for me to pull of. I will have my dad call in the morning. This pisses me off.
The Exp. dates and everything are different.
I have enough freakin stress over him being unwell, now i have to worry about if i'm giving him the right meds. UGH!! :mad: :mad: :mad:
That would have stressed me out, as well! They shouldn't be doing that at all.
How is dear Simba doing today???
I haven't been on PT for a while, and just caught up on this thread--I hope he's doing better, he will be in my prayers.
He's doing alot of itching and licking.
He's really tricky with his pills. He keeps them at the back of his throat. Even after holding him there for like 5 minutes. I make him drink after I give him the pills.
We just got done taking pictures. Him and Nala were playing with what's left of the sock tug of war toy.:) I'm loading them now and I will be posting them in dog general. :)
Does he swallow? I tap on Josie's nose to make her lick her nose which usually makes her swallow. She seems to have now developed a way to spit the pill out even if she swallows..hm..
-goes to see pics- :)
Just curious on how Simba is doing. :)
