Thinking of Murphy too ... The surgery must have been done by now , I hope everything went well... :(
I'm anxious to hear the update....
I've been watching the clock. It should be over soon. I'm praying so hard........
I just hung up with Mark, Dr. Robinson's assistant. First of all, she is out of surgery and is starting to wake up now. :) The surgery went well and Mark said that the tumor was far larger than what could be seen from the outside. He said that it was a good thing that we chose the option of resectioning the ear canal because there is no way that the whole tumor could have been removed otherwise. Apparently it was quite large, but Dr. R. feels he got it all. He is going to send the tumor off to be tested so we can know exactly what it is, and while he was in there, he saw some infection way down in the canal that concerned him, so he took a swab and is sending it off to identify it by culture, so he can know how to treat that. Obviously, I'm trying to remember everything he said and am probably doing a lousy job of it. She did well enough under the anesthesia that he did a dental cleaning on her too! She will have "pearly whites".
Mark says she looks like a war veteran because they have her head bandaged. He said that should elicit lots of sympathy. You had better believe it will!!!
I can pick her up after 5 pm today. He just wants to make sure she has had time to wake up sufficiently. I am so relieved that this is overwith and our girl made it through!! I, of course, am still concerned about the results of the biopsy, but we will deal with that as it comes. Our girl is coming home!!!! :) :)
I have been anxiously awaiting the news. It sounds good. I'm glad that the vet thinks he got all the tumor. Glad she is awakening. Whew! Sounds good. Just have to pray that the biopsy report is good.
Be careful when she tries to walk. Her equilibrium will be off and she might have a problem. Prayers coming for good results and a quick recovery!!
It made me smile when I read your post Sandra.. How could we all be feeling and doing the same when most of us are thousands of miles away from each other ?Quote:

I really love this site and I love everyone who shares the same passion as I have with animals.. Such a comforting feeling to know that you have a friend whom you can count on, when the going gets tough ...
My friend once told me...
HE never promised a smooth sailing... HE only promised a smooth landing..
I know HE listens to everyone's prayers.. Not only for Murphy, but for Shilloh, Blaze and to all the furbabies that are sick right now... :)
Murphy will get through this :) I know she will...
Oh, thank you God!!!:) Oh, what a big, brave Labbie girl you are Murphy!!! There will be a LOT of lovin' and huggin' going on tonight!!!!!!:D I'm so thrilled for US!! LOL! Yay, Murphy!! Now, we will expect a PROMPT update as soon as the patient arrives home!!:) Yipppppeeeee!!
WAY TO GO MURPHY !!! I'm so glad the surgery went well
and Murphy can come home tonight. I hope she gets a good
nights rest.(Logan too) She's had a very big day.:) Rest & feel
better Murphy.:) Love & Hugs from Liz & Moki.
What great news. We really needed good news on PT right now. If you can find a spot that's not bandaged (maybe her forehead right between the eyes?) please give her a tiny kiss from me for being such a good girl. :D
Such good news!:) love and hugs Murphy! and more love and hugs!!:)
Chris
Thanks for the update, Logan. One hurdle is over with. She made it through the operation. I have to believe that the teeth cleaning was a sign that all will be well. Years ago my husband was in intensive care and someone sent him a terrarium. It just struck me at the time that you don't send that kind of thing to someone who isn't going to make it, so.... he will survive! I'm having the same kind of moment with Murphy's teeth cleaning.
What wonderful news!!! I am glad she will be coming home too!!!! I don't like when they keep them overnight because most places don't have someone there and it has to be such a scarey place after surgery. There is no place like home and mom and dads security!!! ;)
Murphy, bless your sweet labbie heart! You have no idea how much love and sympathy you are going to receive once you get home. You are one lucky lady and we are all so glad that the surgery is over. But, we won't let up on the prayers until all of the test results are over and you are back on the road to complete recovery.
Everyone is going to be so glad to see you at Logan and Scott's home - maybe Roger can sing you a tune!!

Logan what wonderful news! I guess you are picking her up right now as I type. There's no place better than home to heal, surrounded with lots of loving people all ready to wait on her hand and foot. Here's hoping for a good report on the biopsy, but for now one day at a time and I know you are going to have lots of cuddle time with her tonight. {{{hugs}}}
Hello to everyone and thank you for all the good wishes and love that I have "felt" today regarding Murphy's surgery. She is home!!! Poor thing looks like a little peasant woman with her head all bandaged up. I'll have Helen or Scott take her picture later. She will be bandaged for one week and then go back for him to check her and change the bandage. I was able to talk with Dr. Robinson when I went to pick her up. He looked at me very seriously and said that it would have been very easy for any vet to cut out that visible tumor (which he threw away, by the way, because once he saw the other ones, he said this one was "nothing"), but what he found as a result of resectioning the ear canal shocked him. He said she had tumors all through her canal, all the way down to where it becomes horizontal, the two worst ones, totally blocking the ear canal. He said that there is no way that we could ever have effectively treated an ear infection because the canal was completely blocked. Both of those have been sent off to be evaluated. I wish I could show you in person what he drew for me. Basically, he drew a diagram of the dog's ear canal, almost like an inverted "L", but turned the other direction. This may sound gross, but he basically "peeled" it open, but cutting down the side of the vertical part. That's when he found the other tumors and the horrible infection. In all honesty, he said he doesn't know what to think about the biopsy and how it will turn out, but he said that regardless of the outcome, she will be far more comfortable. He said there was no way that he would not have had the infection cultured either, which is fine by me. I just want what is best for this girl. What I didn't ask him, and will ask, when I get the results of the biopsies and culture from him on Friday, is whether there is a chance that the same thing could be happening in the left ear. I just don't know. She is visibly uncomfortable now, but we have pain medication to keep her calm and comfortable, and he said if it doesn't seem to be enough then to call him and he will write out a prescription for her. I have NEVER seen him as concerned and worried as I did today. I can only thank God that we decided to have him look at her to start with. He is a blessing to Scott and me and to Murphy!
I apologize for getting graphic about the procedure, but I wanted to try and help you understand exactly what he did. And thank goodness he did that!!!
I'll keep you posted on how she is doing. I think we will have a rough couple of days, but we will watch her closely and get her feeling better soon.
Thank you again for all the love, prayer and good thoughts.
Logan
