I do the same. I really only have 1 friend who does this to me. She'll call me, get another call and tell me she's going to put me on hold. I say, no thanks, and hang up on her.

I am soooo dependent on my DVR - I rarely watch live TV now, and when it's recorded, I can just skip all the commercials. When I happen to be watching something when it airs, I hit the "mute" for all commercials, unless they feature an animal, of course! And no the Geico gecko doesn't count.
I loved the first one (Worrry, worry) and like the latest one, too! THAT I will stop the DVR for.
I am always in the minority when it comes to phones! LOL. I rarely have a conversation with someone-outside my home- that doesn't result in an interruption of some sort. Maybe it is someone asking me if I know where room x,y,z is in the courthouse. Maybe it is someone asking if the chair next to us is being used. Maybe it is my son pointing out something he just read. Whatever...it is a minimal interruption, and both people go on talking again. Some of you work in an office. Aren't you interrupted daily by things? I can talk to my boss and if my phone rings, I answer it. I say, "excuse me...", answer it, and come right back to finish the conversation with him. What is the big deal? Or, I glance at my watch and realize I am late...and I say to my co-worker, "yikes, bye! gotta go right now". Somehow, we all manage to deal with it.
Why ever is call waiting so different? If someone can't handle the fact that life gets interrupted sometimes, and for what, a minute...call waiting isn't really the issue, is it?
If I am just chatting with someone, and the other line rings (especially if it is a client or work), I switch over. Big deal, really. I would think they do would do the same thing to me. In fact, my sister- gasp- just did it to me today! I still drove over there and gave her my barely used copier/scanner. We somehow manage to hang on to our relationship. :p
I don't have a big issue with someone letting the other person know they will call them back, it's when someone chooses to let me go to talk to the other person that bugs me. I can see if it's a Dr. office or similar, but just to choose the other person, so rude! Especially if they called me!;)
Rude - rude - rude. This type of call: I answer my ringing phone and hear the following; "I have a call for you from Mr. XYZ - please hold for him." WHAT???? You've got to be kidding!!! If Mr XYZ wants to talk to me, then he can call me back personally. This gets the same hang up treatment that I afford the ones I am already talking to and then proceed to put me on hold.
ETA: The only call that I won't hang up on, is one from one of my doctors, or from the Fuzzbuttz vet. I fully understand a doctor's office having to put a call on hold at times. If you're not a doctor's office calling - or me calling a doctor's office - then I definitely will hang up if put on hold. And this includes hanging up on my brother, who is notorious for doing this.:eek:
Might be old fashioned, but to me, it's just rude. Guess Mr XYZ is so busy and so important that he has to have someone else make the call. Hey - my time is important to ME, and I'm not going to waste it holding till Mr Bigshot comes on the line. I certainly wouldn't call someone and ask them to hold for me - just not my style. :p Times - they are a changin' - and not necessarily for the better in all cases. Maybe I'm just too old fashioned..........:(
Pom, just so we are clear, I wasn't meaning YOU were old-fashioned, just that that sort of phone call handling seems so old fashioned to me.
I have to agree with you on that one Pom. I'm one who thinks it's about the rudest thing someone can do. If I'm on the phone with someone and they get a call I will hang on only if they say it's the doctor or similar, vet, dentist. I know those calls have to be answered and they only last a few minutes. But to have someone call me and let me hang because of another call...no way, they won't find me waiting when they get through.
When I call someone never will I take another call unless from the doctor, dentist or vet office and I always warn the person that we might get interrupted by the call if I'm expecting it.
This is one of Ma Bell's big mistakes as far as I'm concerned. Totally not needed and ridiculous in my book. Guess I must be terribly old fashioned too because not only do I find it rude but a show of bad manners also. I don't do it to anyone and I won't let them do it to me, I hang up and don't take the call when they call back.
Asiel and Pom- PM me your numbers, I am going to get us on a three way call to discuss this further. :)
Aside from my lack of telephone manners, I am pretty tactful otherwise. :D
LOL. I wonder if I do still have it? It wouldn't have a thing to do with you being important...more like my feeble minded brain remembering where I put it. :)
