Thank you all so much, it really means the world!
I mentioned the TENS to Coop this evening; we'll see tomorrow if that's a feasible option. Praying for a positive update!
Prayers and positive thoughts for tomorrow's Dr visit. I do hope they
come up with ideas to help your husband. This must be a very painful
condition. I do hope he gets the help he needs.
Tons of prayers on the way from me for you both! I have advanced arthritis in my lower back so can only imagine the agony you are in.:love::love:
Good News! NO SURGERY YET!
Just got off the phone with Coop; Stenosis and the compression between L4 and L5 are still not good, he could do a compression surgery, which would only put him out of commission for a week, but he doesn't think that's necessary at this moment. He said fusion surgery is an eventuality; but not now.
He thinks the severe pain mid-back right now is NOT as a result of any of that. It could be muscular and just requires physical therapy!! :D
Thank you all for your prayers and information; it seems we may be OK on this one!
This is wonderful news!!!:D Hopefully physical therapy will help him and it'll do the trick for now.:)
Maggie , my husband has spinal stenosis too; it meant he could no longer work and had to retire early. When we went to China , however, a friend took him to the Chinese medicine hospital and arranged for some acupuncture treatment. It took a few weeks but it really helped with the pain and made him a lot more mobile. Just a suggestion!
Coop has our sympathy and prayers for some relief from this.. we know how it feels!
As I understand it (and I'm not a neurosurgery expert), part of spinal stenosis management is to put off a spinal fusion as long as possible and only do it when it is absolutely necessary. (because once you fuse L4-5 you have to keep tabs on L3-4 and L5-S1 because you've altered the motion of the spine by doing the fusion) I hope the PT will work great! Thoughts and prayers! --- elyse
I am so sorry to hear you husband is in so much pain, please let his suffering ease and he be well again, my thoughts are with you both, HUGS and LOVE from down under.:love:
I can so relate to your worry and concern. It's very hard to watch them be in so much pain and feel there is nothing that can be done short of surgery. My SO has the stenosis, plus other problems (5 bulging discs, 2 herniated discs, scoliosis, stenosis and osteoarthritis of spine). He's resisting the surgery angle for as long as he can.
A suggestion for your hubby.....if he can try acupuncture for the pain. It won't fix the problem, but for the pain - it makes it manageable. And it's really doesn't hurt. My SO has accupuncture every 4 weeks and it has helped him unmeasurably. He was very skeptical at first, but after watching our dachshund go through acupuncture and get better, Dick changed his tune. That was three years ago and he swears by it now to help manage the pain. Just the change in his outlook has made it worth it.
Better news than expected, for sure! :-)
I hope Coop gets a gifted physiotherapist, who can really work wonders! That acupuncture sounds like it has worked for a few people, too.
HUGS!:)
I am so sorry to hear of your husband's back issues. I know how this can effect the whole family and bring much stress.
But from reading the other posts I also see that he is doing better and I too would like to add my best wishes for him and your entire family at this most difficult time.
More prayers being offered for your husband. I cannot imagine being in constant pain.
Recently I have been receiving acupuncture for a different condition and I have noticed some improvement.
However, I understand that for pain management it is wonderful. Good wishes for you all - blessings to come.
I'll keep saying prays! I hope PT can help.

Update!
Physical Therapy began this week. There was an hour and a half evaluation on Monday, and yesterday they "put him in traction". He explained this to me but I would never do it justice. He was in a traction type system, but it also involved a heat/steam therapy at the same time, some stretching and proper positioning. It already seems to be helping and has put Coop in a much better frame of mind. Thanks for the prayers - we seem to be in a good place! :)
