What should I do about this?

I just got the call. She said they were her dogs. I asked her how long they had been gone, & at first she said 2 days, then she said just yesterday. I don't know, I don't feel good about telling them where the dogs are, but I guess they are their dogs:mad: I told her she could come here tomorrow night & get the little one, then I will be able to talk to her. She said she had been crying. Wish me luck when I talk to her, I'll try & not get upset!
And if I find them out again, I am not going to tell them, I will just find them new homes.

Oh, Anna, I hope if they are her dogs, you can convince her how dangerous it is for them running loose, and that she NEEDS to get them collars and tags and keep them safe!

We will be thinking of you ...

The one I worry about is the one in the kill shelter.
I hope this lady starts taking care of these dogs. I'm sure you will "encourage" her to be more careful. Good luck!!

Good plan, Anna. I would gently but firmly express my concerns about their well being to her and subtley make it known that you will be keeping an eye out for them! You called the shelters and police after you found them, right??? How come there was no record of anyone having reported these two dogs missing??? How desperately could she have been looking for them??? I know you are fearful, returning them to this potentially dangerous situation. But you really have no other choice right now. I still would contact animal control to report the events of the past few days and as well that these dogs have in the past been found running loose in traffic, nearly hit by cars! Sure, she's crying now...but is she doesn't take responsibility for their safety, she'll be crying even more tears when she learns that have been struck by a car or bus. Good luck Anna! I agree...we will certainly be thinking of you, Anna. It's not fun having to confront someone, but really it's for the sake of her pups. Those poor critters running the street! :(

Good luck Anna! I hope you are able to get through to this woman how important it is to keep tage son her dogs and keep track of where they are. Next time she may not be so lucky to have such a great person find them!

At the studio this weekend we found a GSD mix wandering a very busy street in Toledo. Because it was Sunday we could not contact anyone, and although the dog had a license on we had no way of getting ahold of the owners. We called the emergency care vet to see if they knew anything and they said someone had been there 10 minutes before looking for the dog, but they had not gotten the name. We kept the dog at the studio overnight and the studio owner was going to call this morning to find out who the owners are. Ralph didn't go to his lesson tonight, so I won't know until tomorrow how that all went, but I know the owner has been out loking and I know is they weren't able to cross paths today the dog is getting plenty of lovin at the studio...A good reminder for us all to keep name tages on our dogs!

I will reiterate an experience we had before. Stray dog eating the neighbor's garbage, and when I walked over and called he came right to me. His collar had:

1. His name (Archie)
2. His people's phone number
They were woven right in as part of the collar.

He also had brand-new tags, one with his address.

We called, got no answer, so we got in the car, drove there, and Archie was back home within a couple hours of him breaking out of a hole in the fence his owners didn't know about.

Happy dog, grateful owners, and a happy ending. Shouldn't ALL dogs have that chance?

Well at this point the only comfort you have is knowing that you did the right thing under the circumstances. I suppose it is possible that they could have escaped and you have given this woman the benefit of the doubt. You will undoubtedly learn more when you meet her. I am wondering how much trouble she went to in her search for them - checking with shelters? notifying police? starting an ad in the paper? Please keep us updated as to how this plays out. Either way, you acted responsibly all the way around.

who claimed these dogs went. I agree with Pam, whatever
the outcome here, you did the responsible & loving thing
by rescueing them from the streets. Hope this all turns out

Sorry I didn't have time to post before now.
She was supposed to come get him at 6, but she called a little after 5 and asked if it was ok if she came early. This is a good sign, maybe she does care about her dogs.
When she got here, she told me she had went & got the retreiver from the pound & gave him a bath right away because he was so dirty & had so many burrs in him. I was glad to hear that. And the little guy seemed truly happy to see her.
I told her she should think about getting a collar & id tag for the both of them, and she told me that the little guy had allergies & a collar bothered him. Have you ever heard of this before. There are many types of collars, I'd think you'd be able to find one that didn't bother him.
Anyway after I said that, she quickly said thank you and bolted! Guess she knew I was going to try & tell her other things & just didn't want to hear it.
Oh well, at least for now they are both clean & alive! I will be keeping a lookout for them from now on.

Well, I am glad the dogs got home safe and sound, I just hope they stay that way!
My friend's Lab seems to get a rash from her collar eery year around August. She switches between a nylon and a chain collar depending on the time of year.

The dog we found at the studio went home! His name is Jimmy and he is 8 1/2 yrs old ( one of my friends thought he was still a puppy, Ralph and I guessed 3). The guy was very happy to have him back and left work to come get him.

I can see that allergies would bother their necks. The vet told me not to put a collar on Kylie b/c of her sensitive skin/rodent ulcer condition. But she doesn't go outside.
She could still microchip them, it would be worth the expense.
Allergies is just an excuse, not a good one either.

Glad the pups are back home. And I hope that it is a good home. They are very fortunate that they crossed your path or else I would dread thinking of what may have happened to them.
