Rinny should be at the vet now...hope it goes well!
We just got back and he was very impressed with Rinny. He got his 6 way and rabies and he told me to wait until March or April to have him HW tested because even though he was outside and not on preventative, he was a city dog and so his chances of having them are not very good. He didn't seem concerned at all about it. He also said not to give him preventative until after he's tested. He said that it was close enough to frost day that he wouldn't worry about it. I was pleased with the results. He weighs in at 65.5 pounds and he said that was a very healthy weight and his coat looks wonderful. The wound, he said was totally healed and that Mike did a good job treating it.
He goes in to be neutered on October 10 and will get his second 6way then. Max goes in on the 3rd for his 3rd 12 panel blood test.
Molly, I am so glad to hear that Rinny is in good health and that he will be getting neutered soon! It's good that all your females are spayed as well. Would want any accidents :D
Why didn't the vet have Rinny tested for HW yet? Hope Max's work goes well.
Thanks for the update!
MOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYY!!!!! My hero! Congrats! I was so excited to see this thread!! It means now I have 14 to go before I catch up to ya :D :D :D
Rinny looks like such a sweetie and I'm sure his issues will be ironed out. I am currently trying to rehome a sweet little hound mix that a disabled lady found on the highway :(
Thats odd the vet said to wait on the HW test  I see a lot of city dogs coming into the shelter that have heartworm. Ohhhh but then again Texas is sort of bad for mosquitoes. I feel like putting a net over me when I go out so I don't get West Nile
Can't wait til Rinny is settled in and knows he has all the food and loving he can handle for life :)
Our vet is REALLY pragmatic, and I trust him implicitly, so I'm not too concerned. He didn't say that city dogs don't ever get heartworms, but they get them far less often than country dogs. He also said the mosquitoes just aren't that bad this summer here. It's been sooooooo dry all summer that the critters that came out in the wet spring have died because there's just no standing water. I truly believe that if he felt there was a risk that he would do the test. He also always tries to save us money if a procedure is unnecessary at that time. I can't imagine not having him as our vet, but the time is coming because his wife has sort of forced him to cut back on his hours. I guess she's been REALLY pushy about the whole thing. He has definitely will be missed by us when he retires. I told him when he did decide to retire that he had to keep us as clients. He laughed and said he'd see what he could do! lol
I just have a gut feeling that he's just fine.
Max is doing incredibly great. He's truly back to his old self.
Wow, Molly, you truely are blessed! Rinny is absoluteley adorable, and beautiful!
Do all you dogs have their own leashes, too?? I'd LOVE to have 14 wonderful dogs!:) ;)
Thanks to the dollar store, yes, they all own their own leashes. And we are up to 16 now! lol
Mugsy, I don't know how you do it, but I'm sure all the pups are glad that you do, thank goodness for those dollar stores, lol.
Good luck with the new member of your family.
