Hi,
I sent an e-mail to the judge as well. Please keep us updated on this situation!
Thanks,
Snowy's Mom
Thank You to all of you who sent an e-mail to this judge.
She promised to read all the mail & e-mails that were sent
before the trial before she would hand down a sentence
in the case. I'm sure added e-mails to encourage the new
tougher animal cruelty law in Wash. should be strickly applied
in this case. Wash. just enacted tougher laws on animal abuse just two years ago.
This man who was convicted on two counts of
the cruelest kind of abuse I've ever heard of, certainly qualifies
for the maximum sentencing. Pasados is hopeing to get the
guy banned for life from ever "owning" an animal again.I hope
it happens. It would be true justice in this particular case.
I'm thrilled that Freckles has a happy life now, but really do
think that the world at large should know that people are
very serious about enforcing these newer laws.
I'm sure that Yorkster or I will be sure to update later.
Our e-mail is on the way to Judge Wise. :)
Note this paragraph on the Freckles web page:
"Sentencing is December 12th. PLEASE e-mail Judge Wise and kindly ask her to impose a sentence that will not allow the defendant to own animals in the future. By law, he can receive jail time or a fine or both - but to us, nothing will serve a better purpose than to MAKE SURE HE DOESN'T OWN ANIMALS AGAIN. Please thank her for her decision!"
The Judge Wise e-mail is linked from this page:
the Freckles Story...
Well, it's over. Judge Wise handed down her decision
on the case of Freckles. Read what Pasados Safe Haven
has to report;

I think he should have gotten more jail time, but 10 days
without a drink should help sober him up. What a disgusting
excuse for a human being...
Good news. I DO wish the sentence was harsher (like NEVER owning an animal of any kind again and more jail time).
I think it's nice that the church is helping his childeren, but I don't understand why they would ask for no punishment  :(
Do they really believe that he did nothing wrong? I might have to write and ask them what their thinking is on that........................
At the very least, I believe that this guy will be watched pretty closely- in Chelen county anyway. I hope so at least.
Thanks again liz! You're awesome! :D
Liz,
You did a great job in bringing awareness to this situation--I agree with Yorkster about him owning an animal for only a few years....he shouldn't be allowed to own one for the rest of his life....it's like saying a child molester will be rehabilitated after 2 years, which is a crock of crap.
I am just glad that there are people out there like Freckles' rescuer that can't sit by and think its alright for someone to abuse an animal...
Thanks again for bringing light to Freckles story and I am so galld he's found a loving home.
I admit that I was haunted by Freckles story before
he was taken in by the Pasados Shelter. I liked the fact
that they pursued the case through the courts. The moron
who badly mistreated Freckles was finally held accountable
for his actions. I mean the guy committed blatant acts of
horrible cruelty in front of several wittnesses. He felt the dog
was HIS PROPERTY and he could act with impunity.WRONG!!!
The reason the church became involved was because he
could have lost custody of them for teaching them to abuse
the pup & b/c of animal abuse cases being tied to cases of
suspected child abuse. Many times when you find animal
abuse, there is also child abuse, of some form, also going
on in the family. The church stepped in supposedly to look
after his children.
I don't understand why the church would think that asking for no punishment would be beneficial to his childeren. If this is how this man is (if you can really call him that), then you can only imagine how he treats his childeren, to say nothing of what he is teaching them. Sounds/seems like child abuse in addition to animal abuse to me.  :(
Amen and Amen To what Yorkster said!
The only way the children will be protected is they are removed from the home. If he is cruel to animals, then no doubt he is to the children. I don't think the church would be willing to see that the children are removed from the home.
I think this is one of the worse animal abuse cases (that we know of) How many poor things are abused and nobody steps in to stop it.
In my area, a few months ago, a small kitten was put on a ourdoor grill and burned. A next door neighbor ran over and got it, but when he was taken to court, the woman said she didn't see anything. So, the person that did this got off !! I was upset about this for months!! How often does this happen!!! As we know this is the beginning of child abuse.

As for why the church would step in to recommend no
punishment for this man, I haven't a clue. The church group
is Church of Morman (Latter Day Saints), and I don't know
what there teachings are regarding animals.Maybe they
want to "save" this man, and don't consider the animal
abuse as worthy of punishment. I really don't know.
There is an new article at the Freckles update page that's
titled "Domestic Violence Victims , aren't all human"
that tells the depth of the animal/human abuse problem.
