I understand what you mean by this but I have to say I'd highly recommend going to meet the dogs, one that doesn't strike you as "the one" online may very well strike you that way in person! I say this because that is what happened with Raven. I actually had looked at another pup's page at first, and I couldn't get him out of my mind! I kept just thinking he really seemed like what I was looking for. I saw Raven's page and while I thought she was cute, she didn't stand out to me as much for some reason.Quote:

Since I was there, I went ahead and looked at the rest of the dogs. I got to Raven's kennel, and WOW  What I had expected would happen with the little boy pup happened with her instead! It can be so much different when you meet and see them in person than when looking at a few pictures and a write up.
I just thought I'd share that with you, as food for thought :). I certainly wish you the best in finding that perfect One!
At the shelter here you HAVE to fill out an application for a specific dog and get it approved before you can even go and see the dog. they have had too many cases where people have stolen the dog. So you have to choose which one you are interested in before you can even see them.Quote:

The rest of the dogs are too small. We want one about the size of Teddy. he is a big boy that doesn't know how big he is. We need someone that can contend with his size lol
Ah I see. I have not heard of having to apply and be approved to even meet an animal in person, that seems somewhat extreme to me for a shelter. I wonder how that deters theft? In my shelter I certainly couldn't walk out with a dog unnoticed, by their rules you must have an attendant with you while you meet the dogs. But in that case I understand what you are saying, I thought you just meant that none seemed to jump out at you as much, not that none fit what you were looking for in age/size etc. Best wishes though, I hope you find that perfect one soon!

I don't know the specifics of what exactly went on that made them change to that policy. but a friend of ours just adopted a beagle/basset from there and that is what they told her too. They approve your application right on the spot though so you can see the dog but other than that I don't know much of the specifics of why exactly the felt the need to go this route.
