Heather-so sorry about the loss of your precious Ebony! Our thoughts are with you!
You have my deepest sympathy. I know your heart aches.
Spaying any pet is when they take the female reproductive organs out in a surgery...... neutering is for male pets... I just learned through this post that rabbits are high risk for dying during a spaying surgery :(
Yes they are at risk much more than dogs and cats, but things have been inproving over the years for the op on buns.Quote:

My vet said that she has only lost 2 rabbits in the past 2-3 years, so things are improving greatly since people are being more educated about rabbits etc.
It was just unlucky that Ebony didn't survive the anistectic. My vet also said that she does advise spaying and always would for the health and well being of our female buns.
Today Bunny honked at me, which is basically an aggressive thing. Maybe she needs some time on her own?
Many thanks again for all the great support, I am having a memorial for her on heavens gardens so I will post you guys the link when it is ready ok?

Hi Heather. I am so sorry to hear about Ebony. I got an email from Daisy because I didn't know. You have been there for me and my kids and our prayers go out to you. Take care and let me know if I can do anything !
Wanted to show this little pic of Ebony, this is her, she was a character!
GORGEOUS HEATHER !!! Ok Heather, that is the hutch I am looking for. Where did you get that?
No Popcornbird... it is not mean to spay and neuter animals...
Those are some reasons why you would choose to spay. Spaying and neutering is a very common operation and it is very rare that an animal passes on during surgery. Bunnies are just high risk. I think it is more mean to not spay your animal and end up putting the unwanted babies in the pound to endure a very hard life.Quote:

You were well educated about the problems of NOT spaying (namely unwanted pregnancy and the high incidence of uterine/ovarian cancer in female buns)
Wow. All I can say is, what a big slap in the face. When I read the title of this post I started to get tears in my eyes. Ebony was my favorite bunny you had. It makes me think twice of getting Gypsee spayed. She'll either take the risk of the antistetic or take the chance of dying from cancer. It's not easy to make a decision like this when you know it's possible and risky. I will pray for Ebony and for you to be strong and love your other buns just as much.
Thanks Meg,Quote:

Everyones messages have been really special, Ebony would have loved all of the atttention and love.
Since the weather is ok today I am going to put the bunny boys inthe garden but I will have to split the run in two as Cadbury is still atcking poor Twinkle. Gives me a chance to clean out their hutches with them causing havoc at the same time.
xx
Heather, So sorry to hear that your sweet Ebony passed away. She had a good life and she will run free with all the other bunnies that have gone to the bridge. I will be thinking about you.
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Ebony. May she rest in peace.
Hi Heather,
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Ebony, this has touched me very much as I am a bunny lover.
I got my first one when I was a young child and when my dear sweet "Friskie" died I was so upset....from then on my dear Mother gave me anything to do with bunnies for every occasion....and even though Mom has gone now my children know my love of these very special creatures, and have continued the tradition of a bunnie for every occasion.
Please know that I feel your saddness.
