Love the photos Erica, what happy dogs :D.
Today the dogs had...
Clover & Elvis: Sardines & the oil, 1 chicken leg, piece of beef liver, Livamol & Flaxseed supps & everyone started on Glucosamine today.
Tinny: Lean pork mince, sardines & a lil bit of oil, & some oats. She also had the same supps as C & E ;).
My babies all had a turkey drumstick.
The pupsters had their first bit of pork and turkey, mixed in with beef, chicken, an egg, goats milk, and a little bit of formula. Their teeth are really coming in now and I'm going to start them on whole pieces soon (in addition to their gruel).
Today: pork roast
Yesterday: round steak
Day before: Chicken quarters, liver and heart
I have lamb shanks thawing for my dogs.
I am so proud, the puppies are having firm stool! LOL.
Also, I watched four more puppies from the same litter for a while. The foster parent agreed to let me feed them raw and said she'd continue them on it if they liked it (which of course they loved it). When they got here they were already started on kibble soaked in milk with some canned food and their poop reaked, plus it was larger and they were pooping more frequently than my puppies. When she came to pick them up I told her about "raw poop" and she was amazed lol.
She's also going to try her dog on raw as soon as I send her some info :D
Trying to fatten Ki up so she got a can of Evanger's Buffalo & some TWO kibble.
Simba & Nala got a spoonful each of Evangers and TWO.
Mandy:
Boneless bison
Bison liver
Chicken gizzards
Beef heart
Nova and Luka:
Boneless bison
Bison liver
Chicken gizzards
Beef heart
Egg
Buck:
Boneless bison
Bison liver
Chicken gizzards
Beef heart
Two eggs
Sarah it's great to hear the puppies are doing so well and you've converted yet another family to raw (it's the best thing I've ever done for my dogs!)
I know I posted I was buying a 1/2 a side of beef, well I picked it up a couple weeks ago.
I had no idea of how to tell them how to cut it up so of course it's prepared for human consumption (in my terms means lots and lots of hamburger  ). The guy there told me just to let them know next time that I want as little hamburger as possible and they can cut me up big chuncks. He said he also feeds his dog raw and she's still going strong at 16!!!
Anyways I just had to get a couple pictures for you all to see.
You'll love this...
Bon thinks all the yummy food is for him. Notice him trying to get a sniff :p
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9/ecdfb6e9.jpg
And a picture after it was all put away, he's still thinking it's all his...LOL!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...6/IMG_6526.jpg
Little does he know there's food there for all of us, not just him :)
And as for their meals today...
Pork Should Butt for everyone with liver and an egg for a snack later.
For dinner:
Ki - AvoDerm Puppy, 1/2 can of Evanger's Turkey, & TWO
Sim & Nala got some of her canned and TWO.
Nova:
2 pig feet
1/3 pork lung
Luka:
Pig foot
1/6 pork lung
Buck:
Pig foot
1/2 pork lung
Mandy:
Pig foot
(She refused her pork lung and I gave it to Nova)
The puppies nibbled on a pig foot today, I'll try to remember to post the pictures later.
Yep, she started her dog on it before I could even send her information! She just fed him what she was feeding the puppies (without the puppy formula ;)). She said that after two meals "his stool was just beautiful!" LOL. So I typed up some info on how to start him off and then told her to call me when she's ready for more info ;)Quote:

1.75 lb veal breast
Mandy and Nova:
1 lb veal breast
I was without a computer for almost a week. (Dell does NOT follow through with their next day service guarantee like they say they do). I can't remember exactly what they ate for every meal so I'll just start from last night. lol
First here's the pics of the WHOLE beef lung (with attached trachea, heart, liver, splean etc..). This one was one of the smaller ones, weighing in at about 45lbs. Sorry I didn't really get more pics but I was getting sick & tired of cutting. lol
The "hole" in the upper section is the trachea, you can see some intestine next to the trachea and fat (white stuff), the pink middle section is the lung and the dark section at the bottom is the splean. The heart & liver were under the blob of beef stuff.

Here's the litte freezer I got for $35. It actually holds more than you think. It might be short but it's pretty deep. I wasn't even done packing it yet and at this point I had 6 whole chickens, 3-10lb bags of chicken quarters, 4 packs of pork feet, 4 packs of pork neck bones, about 20lbs of pork butt shoulder roast, 50lbs of beef "stuff", 10lbs of ground turkey, 2 big ziplock bags of chicken feet and some misc venison, chicken organs, pork extras in there too. I forgot to take a pic of it after I was done packing it, which ended up being about 25 more pounds of the same items. I also forgot to take picks of the freezer I share with the dogs, half of it is still theirs.

Last night's dinner:
Nanook:
beef lung
quarter of a chicken
2 chicken feet
chicken liver
Raustyk:
beef lung
half a chicken
Kaige:
beef lung
pork butt shoulder roast
chicken neck
Indy:
beef lung
quarter of a chicken
I cut up a whole chicken and it was good size so the quarters were actually bigger than that of a chicken quarter you'd normally find in the store.
Wow, my beef lung looks so puney next to yours :o

I want what you've got! LOL
Believe me, you'd probably want to keep what you got. It is a PAIN cutting it up. It took me about 2-2.5 hours to chop up 2 beef lungs & the extras. I even used super sharp butcher knives that my father gave me and that doesn't even include bagging it, I had help with that part. After cutting up the first section I kind of gave up & cut the second one into BIG pices which I cut up into smaller sections as needed. I totally gave up on the third one & gave it to the dogs whole. lolQuote:

I bought some Chicken frames for my guy this week....was so funny he just stood there and looked at it as if to say what am i sposed to do with that? *LOL* He soon figured it out! He is also getting vegetables and rice mixed in with his dry food
He is slowly filling out thankfully

Today, Jasper had a chicken gizzard and a pig's foot. :)
Today's dinner will be:

Half of a Red Fish

Chicken Liver
Nala:
Half of Red Fish
Chicken Thigh
Simba:
Whole Trout
For a snack later, Kiki will get half can of Evanger's Buffalo & carrots.
Simba and Nala will get a peach/orange frosty paw.
I love seeing the photos of everyones freezers and dogs it is great :D. And reading through the last 2 pages reminded me to get food out of the freezer for the dogs lol.
Tonight i will probably be...
Clover & Elvis: Beef mince (Organ meat is minced in with the muscle meat), a pork bone, which had quite a bit of meat on it, Glucosamine/ Flaxseed/ Livamol supplements, and maybe an egg (With shell) or sardines.
Tinny: Beef mince, mushy carrot, cauliflower, sardines or an egg (with shell).
Also i have started a "Tinny's Diet Book" for the little girl, to keep track of her weight etc. She is due for a weigh in before we leave for camping this Friday coming.. heres hoping she has lost a bit of weight.
My gang had chicken quarters and the puppies had their first chicken back.
Today was a bad day for Kai's diet. He lost two pounds after 1 week of swimming, but this week.. I'll be happy if we just break even. He stole a plate of french fries I had left out overnight by accident (bad mom! :o) and got some treats out of a treat box.. ironically it was when I was teaching an obedience class and talking about dogs stealing food at home. :p
Anywho.. today's breakfast was ground turkey, liver and supplements.
Haven't fed dinner yet but they'll be getting tripe, an egg and some turkey.
Nawtee boy Kai :(. Hopefully he hasn't put on much weight Ashley, or if he has that it comes off again soon ;).
The kids ended up having a piece of pork hock earlier, and i have only just given them their dinner (I forgot to feed them ). They had the beef mince, vegie, supps and an egg yummy. Tinny actually ate all her vegies so i was very happy about that.. i think the egg mixed through helped.
Kay how do your kids do with whole fish, did they take to it strait away?. Clover is the only one of mine that will eat fresh fish, but only sardines. El and Tinny wont touch fresh fish at all, it has to be tinned stuff.
Daisy had raw chicken leg quarters, kelp, bok choy, apple, stew broth and fish oil.

Yesterday, Nala ended up eating the whole trout by herself & Simba ate Nala's portion of the red fish. They did this switch without me, as Simba was not touching his trout, he wanted Nala's red fish, and Nala wanted his trout!
They did not end up finising the red fish - it was a HUGE red fish.
Friday night they all had:
Pork butt roast
egg
beef trachea
beef lung
Saturday for breakfast they each had:
chicken thigh or leg
beef lung
Saturday's dinner:
salmon & mackeral
green beans (normally I won't feed this but I was in a big hurry)
egg
cottage cheese
chicken feet
Sunday's breakfast:
chicken feet
Sunday's dinner:
pork
beef spleen
Tonight's dinner will be:
chicken quarters & some kind of beef organ.
I am out of chicken feet & almost out of beef trachea and life is very busy. I won't be able to pick any more up until the first weekend in October. Needless to say some additional supplements will be added again mostly for Nanook & Raustyk & their joint problems. Mostly just Nupro joint (which I sometimes add anyways but I'll have to add a little more the next couple weeks).
Tonights dinner was...
Clover: Beef mince, lamb mince, mushed vegies, Flaxseed/ Glucosamine/ Livamol supps & some canned sardines and oil. Clover's coat is looking great at the moment, it is nice and glossy. I think it is the Livamol and Flaxseed :D.
Elvis: Lamb mince, mushed vegies, Flaxseed/ Glucosamine/ Livamol supps, a couple of canned sardines.
Tinny: Small ammount of lamb mince, small piece of chicken breast with no skin or fat, 1 sardine and oil, Flaxseed/ Glucosamine/ Livamol supps and her usual truck load of mushed vegies ;).
Kay that is interesting, maybe i just need to "teach" my guys how to eat big fish. I will send them over to you for a lesson ;).
Wow, Awesome! Some of your dogs get a great variety!
Saturday:
Mackerel, Ground Hamburger, egg (no shell), liver and mushy banana as a treat.
Sunday:
Round steak
Monday:
Whole Turkey
Today was their first encounter with turkey and I must say they LOVED it, especially Roxey...she tried or should I say succeeded in taking Bon's
This is the first time I've ever seen her even attempt to take his food. I had to go out and take it from her  But I must admit, she did get a little nick in the ear from Bon!
Yesterday:
Mandy:
Pork ribs
Nova and Luka:
Pork ribs
1 egg
Buck:
Pork ribs
2 eggs
Today:
My dogs had boneless lamb, chicken, and pork, half a can of mackeral, and an egg.
The puppies also had boneless lamb, chicken, and pork (cut into chunks). Every day I've been giving them some chicken bones (usually backs, but today it was breasts with some meat cut off) to knaw on and let them learn how to chew. They are still getting "gruel" a few times a day as well.
Gonzo & Fozzie split a game hen. I don't usually get them, but my Mom got a package of 10 for $9, which is something like $.50/lb, or less. They liked it a lot! =D They also got a little bit of oatmeal for breakfast (from my sister) with bananas and some honey, and a raw egg.
800th Reply! *___*
For dinner last night my three had:
Beef Chunks
Beef liver
Cow tounge
Vegtables
I was so grossed out when I was cutting up the cow tounge. I cant believe people would eat that. Ewwww. :p
I cant get over what the raw diet has done for Diamond. I swear she acts like she is 6 months old again. Its amazing.
My mom loves cow tongue. (don't ask me why lol). I've never fed it as it is so expensive in my area, usually at least $4/lb.Quote:

Thanks Sue! They were all overweight before I started raw. They have lost a lot of weight. They all look so much better. I got the cow tounge at Walmart for $5.00. They also had 10 lb bags of chicken quaters on sale for $4.00. :)Quote:

Solo got his first taste of ice cream today. :)

chicken quarter

I've just switched to raw about 4 days ago. I was feeding kibble in the morning and raw at night but my huskies (Thor and Sif) started turning there nose up at the kibble. The question I have is do you wiegh your meat or just estimate it? I've only been feeding chicken one time a day and Thor gets a leg with thiegh attached and Sif gets a Thiegh.(my spelling skills are horrible!) Should I feed them more than that? They always seem to be hungry still but I'm afraid of over feeding them but I don't want them to starve. I just had my 12 year old rat terrier pass away from being to fat. Please Help! Thanks.
Welcome to the world of raw! ;)Quote:

Based on just what you wrote, haveing 2 hisky's I would guess that they *may* need a little mroe than just a chicken quarter a day.
You're starting off right though. Feeding smaller meals & easily digested meats (chicken).
Once their systems are used to it you want to add in more of a variety and some organ meats as well.
Once I know more about your dogs I may be able to help you out some more. And like I said, check back in previous posts here & on other threads (do a search for raw). You'll find plenty of information as well as quite a few links to other sites that are mighty helpful!
Sue
Thank you. I've read alot of the other threads on raw feeding that's what made me want to do it.
As for all your questions: Thor weighs about 45 lbs. and Sif weighs maybe 20-25 lbs. She was really Thin when we got her. When they were on kibble I had them on free feed. She would just sit there and eat until she puked. Thor rationed himself. As for activity level They play and run in the backyard all day(we have 1 acre of fenced in land for them) and we take them for a 2 mile walk every night. As for gaining weight Thor rationed himself and he is about right as far as being the right size or that's what my vet said. Sif is thin, you can see and count all of her ribs although she looks alot better now. we have only had her for 3 weeks now. After everything I've read on raw I will continue feeding them chicken for awhile, at least a month. Thank you for your help! :D
