cat kneeding

Hi JenSen,
I know how you feel.
My heart is breaking for my little stray Reilly.
I too cannot get close enough to him to see anything. His right looks weird.. perhaps a white opaque like covering.. but again.. I can't get close enough to see.
I talk softly to him ... tell him I love him....not to be afraid and that I am here.

What scraes me is not only does he eat from this bowl but a neighbor's cat does as well who I KNOW is vaccinated regularly.. but I have other wild fur children that I Have seen eating fromt the bowl... like our groundhogs and Raccoons. I wish I could take him to my vet an dhave her check him from head to toe.....

I noticed him last winter.. an dhave been feeding him since then.
DEar Lord.. what will we do with these poor angels that are left in the cold. How can humans be so heartless and uncaring?

Hi Cat Napper,
None of my other fur child knead me like Morgan.
I think becasue I am a volunteer at out SPCA and I knew him before I brought him home helped forge that bond. I think he also knows that this is his forever home.
He hops on and off the bed at all hours.. and grabs my PJ topin his teeth and starts kneeding away. Then hops off. When my husband wakes up in the morning there is Morgan ( 14 pounds ) sounds asleep across the top of my pillow and I have maybe 1/64 space. He's my latest fur son and has had the hardest being hit by the car last July and had a shattered leg in 5 places.

I cannot even begin to describe to all of you how much I love and adore my fur babies. How blest can one person be to have 4 adults chose her to be their Momma.

I'll tell you what though.... try and take any one of these 4 away and watch my husband's feather get ruffled. He loves them all and they adore their Daddy. He is resigned to the fact that because I am a SPCA volunteer I am always going to be bringing somebody home.

OH JEN! I Have to tell you... Tucker is the baby.. he is the orange/white tabby with a face that could melt stone. He just had his 2nd birthday in April.

Anyway he is a pistol. I have a very dear friend that is an Animal Communicator..... Tucker likes to "help Momma" sometimes and if he sees me on the "round water box" then he wants to help me out and hops into the bathroom sink and wizzie tinkles. He then looks at me like see Momma I helped!

Lord have mercy...... This morning I was in the bathroom.. doing my duty... he walks in... ALWAYS HAS to come in and help me... he likes to make sure I Know what I am doing......anyway... he looks at me.... then walks into the shower..... goes directly to the drain and squats. Looks at me so proud and walks out.

I told my husband who sais well at least he goes in the shower and sink where we can clean it.. better there then the carpet!

My friend that is the AC said that Tucker is insistent that he is HELPING MOMMA>.. because I won;t have to clean the box as much. She tried to explain to him that I have to clean the boxes anyway... he says no he is helping. When Momma is on the round water box an dhe is there.. he will"help".

THat's my boy.

I'm worried about other animals eating from the same bowl also, but sometimes he wont come out and eat if I'm around no matter how hungry he is! And he only comes last at night, and I cant stay up waiting for him to finish the food to take the bowl away.I have given him a wormer and antiboiotic from the vet mixed with canned food, so I can relax about him speading worms or a respiratory virus, but who knows what else is wrong with him! I didnt get any infection at all when he bit me, and it was deep enough to cause an illness! So, I feel better about that too...almost releived he did bit me, because it all healed nicely and quickly. It was kind of like a illness test, LOL!

In my house we call this making biscuts, My oldest Maggi does this and still tries to nurse, My youngest Stormi does it to my tummy every night before bed. As stated above this is the way they relax and tell you that they are happy. Most meowmies do not even get this privilage you should consider yourself lucky. Alot of us here on PT would love for this to be a habit in our house.

I have posted pictures of my fur children. I can't remember if it was this thread or another thread.

Morgan still "Makes Biscuits" every night. He takes the corner of my PJ in his mouth and starts kneading. He does this several times a night.
He's my Boy. I adore him.... and if this makes him happy then I am happy.

Morgies is my newest adopted fur son....and has been thru hell here on earth.... as so many of them have. He is Momma's cuddle bug.

I adore all of them.
I am still trying to befired my little stray that I feed outside. I Have named him Reilly. Winter willbe here before y ou know it and it hurts my heart knowing that he'll be outside.
Any suggestions on how to gain his trust more? He watches me as I clean his bowls and watches me feed him.. all from a distance.
His bowl is by the deck steps. what can I do to gain his trust more> I talk to him softly.. call him by the name Ihave given him. I would love to take him to my vet for a check up etc.

I'm not sure how to get him to trust you more, but probably just keep doing what you are doing and give him a little time. Let him come to you and smell you. Try giving him treats too, maybe that will help. I hate the thought of strays out in the cold too. My neighbor leaves his garage door open a few inches all winter to let strays come in from the cold a little :)

I will keep trying. My heart just breaks when I see him. I have been feeding him for months and months.

For a long long time I was feeding and caring for my neighbor's cat that I named RAVEN. HIS name though was Rachel... used to irritate me.....anyway Raven had tons of blankets in my garage... andhe would love to sleep on top of our cars. These people had him declawed and he was mainly an outside cat. I adored this child. We would always keep the garage door open a few inches so he could come in and out.

They moved in Feb.. and took him. I have tried e mailing them several times, but never received a reply.

We have to try and take care of the ones that have no voice. We have to try.

That is so nice that you helped the poor thing. Getting a cat declawed is bad enough, but an outside cat? Poor thing has practically no defenses. It feels good to help them too. :)

My method for getting cats to be more trusting:

Sit six feet away from the dish when you feed them. Do Not Move. Sit absolutely still. In a while, the cat will come to the dish. Allow it to feed without even wiggling a finger. Let it decide to leave on it's own. Talk softly while the cat eats.

The next time, sit a little closer. Try to move a finger slowly. If the cat doesn't bolt, try to move your whole hand, slowly and in small bits. If the cat does run off, continue talking but pull your hand and fingers back to your body. The cat should come back in a little while, especially if it's hungry.

Do not get up when the cat is feeding or is close. Wait for it to leave or at least be several feet away.

Repeat the feeding routine, getting closer every time. Eventually you should be able to put your hand near the cat's cheek while it eats. Then it's just a short reach to touch it.

Make all movements very slowly.

The cat may surprise you and walk right up to you after a couple of days. Or it could take several days to let you move at all.

I try to feed twice a day at the same time. Cats catch on to the schedule real quick!

Hi All,
I have another stupid delicate question.....

As you all know Morgan my newest adopted fur son who LOVES to knead every night. He takes the top corner of my PJ's and starts kneading away.

As some of you have said that your adultcats also love to knead.

I think that Morgan gets "excited" when kneading. He ties to climb on my arm, and becomes very insistant. Is this normal for an adult kneader? He IS neutered but I swear he gets excited.

Is this normal? Should I do anything?

LOL I'm not sure if that's normal or not. Probably, since I think it goes back to when they were babies with their mommies. I wouldn't worry about it. He'll probably always do that, although maybe it won't always be that intense. He was probably weened too early from his mom. :)

he gets this wild look in his eye.....it gets fully dilated and is so intense.
You think it's "normal"? This boy is 6....I guess he does look at me as his Momma.. but I htink he gets "excited" if you know what I mean.. I Haven't Looked becasue I am usually half asleep.. he is like a human bbay and hops up to knead every few hours.:D Good thing I love him.

Belle's eyes get dialated and she has a vary intense look when she kneads. I think she was weaned way too early (she was found at about 1-2 weeks old, abandoned). That might have something to do with it. Over the past few years she has not been kneading me as much. I really miss it! Katie only kneads the bed, or every once in a great while my husband.

I thought Morgan was flipping out. He gets this REALLY intense looks on his face.:)

I am thinking that after awhile maybe Morgies will slow this down some. Maybe because he has had such a terrible life thus far that he needs me to be his security blanket... which is fine. I adore him and if he needs me to be his surrogate MOmma I am honored.
