But what if someone decides to, say, delete a thread or something, and the post count hits a million, then goes back under - will there be two prizes? What's to stop people from their own manipulation of the outcome? ("Oooh, it's almost there, and my guess is two days away - I'll just go delete some of my own old posts ...")

But then again I don't work for th Internal Revenue Service.

I will refrain from guessing, as I am a moderator, and could too easily affect the outcome unintentionally. I tend not to notice when people's posts (including my own) near a milestone, and it'd be just my luck to change the count by deleting a thread of someones just as it got to 999,999. If that happens, remember, I didn't guess, and have no stake in the final outcome! ;)

An odometer is the little meter that measures the mileage on a car!

I was looking at the post count (number of posts on PT) and thought it would be fun to see who could guess the date, it turned into a contest to see when PT hits the one million post mark!
