Anna,
Keep us informed on whether the family in Toledo are going to take Trader. As much as I would like to add him to our family, my husband is not too keen on having a fifth dog. If this family could take him, it sounds like he would have a great life - we don't have as much room for the dogs to run as it sounds like they do - it does sound like doggy heaven!!!
But if it does fall through, let me know. In the meantime, I will continue to work on Carl. It would be great if he could come on Sunday if the other adoption does not work out. It would give us a better idea if he will fit in with our crew.
In some ways it is a great time for us with the dogs, because neither of us are working right now having both been laid off in the last 6 months and have lots of time to spend with them. But money wise it is not the best - vet bills add up just as everything else does. And then sometimes it is just zooy around here with just the four of them. Taggert and Snoopy love to run and chase and Oreo (the 13 year old) loves to bark at them with her high yippy bark.
Please keep us updated as we all pray that Trader goes to a good home whether it be ours or someone elses.
Anna,
I don't know much about how this is usually done, but I know a common thing in Dog Rescue is a Home Visit. If someone more familair with Rescue can gives us some guidleines, I am In Toledo and would be willing to help however I can, either with phone calls, a home visit or transport if neccesary.
Hope this works out for Trader :)
Usually we do a Vet check for a reference and a home visit. Occasionally if the Vet check is really really good, we go with just that. We always take the dog to his/her new home instead of meeting up somewhere, but then all of ours are pretty much local.
For the Vet check, make sure they are up to date on vacs and have regular exams. The vet should be familiar with them, preferably not a new vet. One thing you may also want to check with the Vet is whether the prospective family has had several animals come and go. We've actually encountered this and we're not sure if they are "trying out" pets or what's going on. Just a thought.
I have experience doing vet calls, personal reference calls, and home checks. PM me or email me if you have any questions!
The vet call is pretty easy. I check that they are up to date on shots, on heartworm prevention, spayed or neutered, etc. Then I ask the vet if he knows the people and his opinion. Most of the time they won't remember the people but sometimes they do have an opinion one way or the other.
When you call the personal references, be sure its not someone related to the family. We ask for 3 references. I pretend I don't know anything about the people and ask questions like if they have any other pets, how often they travel, how many hours they are gone from home per day, what kind of fence they have, if they have kids, are the kids good with animals?
Goooooooooood luck!
(BTW, what's a remote collar??)
I haven't heard back from her:( She was supposed to call me last night, but no call.
But on the bright side I do have 2 more people that thought they might be interested:) Geez, please let one of these homes be his forever home!
Oh & thanks for the heads up on the vet check and references!
Do you have an email or phone for them? Maybe they're just rushing around preparing??:( HopeHope:confused: This just really has to work......... keep up the faith
Laurie
I have an email for them, and already sent one.
I have another woman who lives in Manchester, Ohio inquiring about him. She says she's very interested. I asked for her vets #, or personal refrences, and if she could tell me a little about herself and maybe the hours she works. I feel like I was grilling her, but I want him to go to a good home.
Am I going about this in the right way? I just don't want to be kept hanging waiting for one to come through, if there is another home he could be going to.
I think you're doing great Anna. Keep up the good work :)
:) Hope this works out.
Hoping and praying Anna. I would certainly check out some ref.s, their vet, neighbor, etc. and ask some basic questions about their dog experience, their yard, (fenced, kennel, etc.) daily routine (left home alone most of day, for how long) But, if you don't get a quick response or if they "bristle" at your asking them some basic questions, move on, if you have another potential adopter. Most people who are truly sincere about adopting welcome such questions because they are pleased to know you care where/to whom the dog is going!! Please update when you can. I'm on pins and needles.
I asked all those questions, but I think she may have thought it too much, oh well, her loss.
But on the other hand...the guy I had talked to said he might know of somone or if not, he might like to take Trader himself. When I sent him the pics he said, Trader looks like a dog he had lost (died) last year. So, if nothing else, he would like to take him. Guess we'll see what happens with this, one way or another, he's getting a home!!!!:D
Keep up the hard work for Trader, Anna. Sounds like you're going about it perfectly. The Vet checks and all the questions and references are supposed to help weed out the wrong ones! :) Stay with it and you'll find Trader the perfect owner. :D
I think he's got a home:D :D
It's neither one of the other 2 people I was telling you about:rolleyes:
This lady just emailed me, wondering if he was still available. Well of course I said yes & it started from there! She lives with her husband (who is a truckdriver & takes their cocker with him sometimes:) ), and 2 sons (one is 18 & the other, 10), and of course a cocker spaniel, in Manchester, Ohio.
I got her vets name & #, and it all sounds great! He will have a big 4 acre farm to run & play on-I think he will be in heaven:D
They are goat farmers-and yes, I even checked them out on the web, and everything sounds kosher. She gave me all kinds of info, even some I didn't ask for, and said if I wanted more, she would be more than glad to give it to me!
She wanted me to meet her 1/2 way on Saturday morning, but I've asked her if she would be willing to come to Findley on Sunday, that way I don't have to make 2 trips. I'll be talking to her tonight I can't wait!
I was so excited I forgot to tell you...I took Huney over to meet Trader (make sure he wasn't dog aggressive) and OMG! He was sooooo happy. They played a while and then, well, you know what he wanted to do then:rolleyes:
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D That's a person who WANTS this dog!!!:) GREAT work, Anna!! Wooo, hooo! MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PICS!! Feel free to tell the woman about all of us Pet Talkers who will stalk her mercilessly if she doesn't love him to pieces!!;) Yay, Tucker!:)
Sounds like the right family has come along! yeah for Trader! Fingers and paws crossed this wroks out!
Trader has a new forever home! I talked to Barb tonight (his new mommy)! I am sooooo excited! Thanks everyone, and expecially to Sandra for telling me to try Petfinders!
And guess what? For those of you going to the Findlay Dog Park on Sunday, you get to meet him & his new humans!! This is all so great:D And my friend Jennifer (the one with the huskies) is going to bathe & groom him so he looks all pretty for his new mommy!
I'm going to get him tomorrow afternoon & take him down to Jennifers and she will bring him back tomorrow evening. That means he's going to be spending Fri & Sat night with us:eek:
I don't know exactly how this is going to work out, thank goodness we have that kennel outside. Everyone will just have to take turns going in & out of the house. And I'm sure Angus will be sooo stressed by the time Sunday comes, him & dad will lay around, relax & watch nascar:p
I just wanted to let you know what happened and to thank each & every one of you for helping me, help him find a home:D :D
This is from Trader to all of youhttp://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/kiss.gif
Anna, I could feel your joy jumping from the screen! I'm SO happy for you and for that handsome dude, Trader!!:) Wow, a day of beauty awaits him!!:D I'll bet he'll gave a great time at Camp Anna, too! I wish I lived closer to visit with you all at the Findlay Dog Park:( Have a great time, all! We can't thank you enough for all of your hard work, dear Anna!!:) Yay, Trader's going "home!"
Anna thats the best news I've heard all week!!! Yay for Trader! Takes lots of pics for us :D
Hooray for Trader and thank you, Anna, for everything you did to save his life. Hopefully his new owners can join. You'll have to tell her all about this place when you meet her Sunday.
You know, I think if I'd never joined Pet Talk that I wouldn't feel quite the way I do now; about alot of things. You have all opened my eyes to some of the terrible things in this world (puppymills, etc...) and to some of the most awesome things (finding an animal a good home, etc...)! I'm glad I could help Trader, but I want to say a big
Thank You!
to all my friends who have taught me so much:D
Anna that is so wonderful!!!
I am so happy that you have found a forever home for dear sweet Trader--you are an angel!!!!!
http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili.../xyxthumbs.gif to you, Anna.
I didn't really help much, just prayed for dear Trader, but it makes me feel great that he has a home--it really sounds perfect!!!
And, since he is staying with you and going to the dog park, that means we get to see more pictures of him:D
That's great to hear! I'm so happy for Trader. I'm looking forward to meeting him and his humans, along with everybody else going, at the dog park in 2 days. Wow, it's really come quickly. See everybody there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, another pup finding a good home, yeah!
WOOHOOOOO!!!!!!
That is so wonderful Anna!!!
I can't wait to meet Trader. :D
Yeah for Trader!!! Can't wait to meet him Sunday!
I wonder how many 100's of animals Karen and Paul have helped save just by creating Pet Talk? I just for me joining here, I have found out about transports and have done a few to help doggies get tot heir rescues, and of course, if I hadn't met Molly through PT, she wouldn't have told me about Spot...now there is Trader and I know there tons of other animals who have been saved, directly or indirectly because of PT. Yet another reason to thank Karen and Paul!
what an awsome looking dog, I love him. I wish I lived on my own then I would take him, but I live in Canada sorry :(.. good luck with finding him a good home though :)
Today his new family came to the park & picked him up:) They seem like real nice people who will take good care of him, I sure hope they do because he really deserves it.
Here's a pic of them all
She said she will keep me updated on how he's doing & send some pictures sometime, I hope she does!
What a great ending to the story, Anna!!!! I'm sure you are very proud of yourself!! They certainly look happy (and cold), and I hope Trader has a wonderful, happy life!!!!
I hope she keeps you updated, we want to be too!!!!
YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!
Congrats to you for finding him such a great home!!! The fact that they drove to the Pet Talk Dog Park day would have been daunting, but they were prepared to do it!!!!
I hope they keep you posted too (and us OF COURSE!!!
All your hard work for Trader has paid off!! I'm so glad Anna!! You're a wonderful person for going the extra mile for him.
I just love a happy ending! :D
It was great to see Trader go home with his forever home. Thanks for doing the work to make that happen!
YOU should be so proud of yourself!!!:) Such a nice looking family! And precious Trader looks happy too!! I hope they keep in touch...You're a hero!!!:) THANK YOU ANNA!!
This is an email I received from Barb today, so glad she's keeping in touch!
Hi Anna,
I have changed trader's name to tucker. He is doing great. He is running and playing and has a lot more energy. He and my springer are getting along better, I still don't leave them by themselves. They seem to be doing less growling so hopefully over time they will work out who is boss.
He is so sweet and is so good. He never messes all day long, he waits until I get home to go out.
Barb
Sounds like the boy is doing good:D
Thanks for the update Anna! Sounds like "Tucker" is doing well. Everyone here is still adjusting to Jack but each day gets a little better and I guess when an older dog is added to the family it just takes some time on everyone's part. I am so glad Trader found a good forever home.
Yep, & so am I:) I was just telling Mark about Jack & he's glad to hear that you took him, he needed a good forever home too:DQuote:

Thanks, Anna! Sounds like they really love him! Now paws crossed that the puppers will work out their "issues!" Let us know if you hear more!:)
What great news!!!
It is great that Barb is keeping you (AND US!!!) updated!
You are the best for saving that boy!!
Here's an email I got from his mom:
Hi,
Tucker is doing great. He is happy as a lark. He is still the big baby that wants to sit in your lap all the time. His teeth are looking really good and I brought him up to date on all his shots. He lives for his bones and playing outside.
Thanks for asking.
Barb
Just thought I'd let you know the big guy is doing great:D
Yeah for Tucker!!! I am glad he is enjoying his new home :)
Wonderful, wonderful news!! Thanks for the update!!
