I think a Teamster stole his girlfriend.
Yes, you did.

If the Union decides you need to be in contact 24/7/365, you will have no choice. But wait, you are a Union Officer, you make the rules then? I can understand your position now. The Union Rules dont apply to you because you make the rules as an Officer?
I'm an officer in the Union, not a Congressman from California. The rules apply equally across the board, and you're stating that as an officer I'm somehow "above" the rules.
Could we tone down the testosterone, please?:p;) How did this go from a computer nerd joke to an electronic cage match about unions?
Anyway, I tend to agree with the one cartoon that implies that Apple always has its hand out.
Maybe tone down the sexism as well?
Oh the cross I bear...I simply MUST be connected 24X7X52 or the whole world will fall in upon itself and disintergrate into a ball of fire.:rolleyes:
Are you really that important??? Fourteen people and their families and their families onto the tenth generation will starve...be lost without your devine intervention!:D:D:D
ROTFLMAO at your sense of self-importance.
I own my own business. I have clients who pay me very well. I am "free".
In fact, I am so free...I do not need to be available 24X7X52...
As if that is a measure of freedom or importance....:D:D:D
Let me know if you need advice on how to take care of clients better - so they don't need you 24X7X52!
He knows his clients and they are different then yours. Your clients can wait until you decide to meet their needs, his cant. I may have a better understanding of Puck's business then you do.
Actually you are, Im not saying you actually break the rules, but if you do and enough members agree with you its fair game. You are a much smaller example of Obama. Whats worse is you have given up even more of your free will to be an officer of your union.
Oh blue...you are always good for a laugh...thanks
So you let your IT guy take vacations?
Im happy I amuse you. How amused will you be the next time you cant get to the data you need to do your job and your IT Guy is in the Congo?
ETA: Unless you are an even bigger Luddite then LH and still use the stone and tablet you learned to write on.
*sigh* I thought it was a cute cartoon....:(
well then maybe I'll just send some of this snow your way so you'll chill out :)
No way :) I love the snow :D It's my favorite kind of weather
I am on call 24/7, if I didn't respond bad things could happen, I am not self important it is a fact of the nature of the IT work that I do.
Its not bad planning or bad training or whatever, stuff happens. If you haven't done someone's job you shouldn't judge.
Its just the nature of the beast in IT. Many of our clients are 24x7 operations. E-Commerce server dies at 3am, costing them $3,000/hour its down... You bet im taking that call. Could I be a 'better' IT provider and get them into a 99.999% up time environment? Sure. But, because I really understand small business I just know better than to even offer it to certain clients, because some of that technology is REALLY expensive.
Anyway....
Sure, to many of you that does not seem like freedom. To me, it is. I am my own boss and get to enjoy a great life. Even better, I get to help share that success with 13 other great people!
The End. :)
This is true. Computer problems don't stop at 5 pm. Bad weather can hit any time and can be catastrophic for servers and the like lol. especially when you get an unexpected 8-10 inches of snow before halloween LOL.
As anyone who has ever used a computer can attest to.... computers go down at the most inopportune times lol
I am sure there could be a company that has a business model that puts the entire fate of the organization on one person's 24/7/52 availability.
But other than a sole proprietor, I cannot imagine why.
And it certainly would not be a company I would want my family dependent upon!
Wow, this a good thread. Just like the war all over again.
Commos against capitalists
Le Sigh....
It must be tough, eh Sara? Looking down from thy roost upon we little people? How stupid we are that we cannot see your genius?
Yes. Yes we as a company realize that my singular knowledge of the detailed physical configuration of our colocation facility is an issue we need to address. Its a project on my plate. But rest your little heart... We will be fine. Thank you for your concern.
Also, dont worry dear.... I doubt I would be trying to employ you in the future. So you don't have to worry about putting your family at risk in our silly little company.
Oh... I recall you lamenting about how difficult it was to give away your extra wealth. I'm sure you recall? You have your wonderful home, cars, a Harely...etc... I used this new fangled thingy called Google. I typed in "How do I give a gift to the US Treasury?" Wouldn't you know it? The VERY first link that came up was...
http://www.fms.treas.gov/faq/moretopics_gifts.html
You said something about "flying monkeys" and "not as easy as you think". I'm sure you will be happy to see that it IS. :) Awesome, eh?
99% uptime does not happen without 24/7 support.
If Puck is selling 99% uptime he had better be on call 24/7, and that would be a company I would depend on if he can deliver.
Last employer also sold 99% uptime, the owner and half the techs where on call 24/7. My current employer sells 99% uptime and 24/7 support.
