A question I was also going to ask. I've got lots of plastic forks, spoons, knives - and paper napkins. Just sitting in the cupboard waiting to be invited to a party :)

I received a phone call from the Park Director late this afternoon. Right now the roads to the Dog Park are flooded. The river was suppose to crest tonight so if all goes well and there is not any more significant rain it should be down enough by Sunday to have the roads open. However that still means the dog park is probably pretty muddy so be forewarned. I am sure it also means mosquitoes as they don't spray that area for them.
I have also decided to bury a small box under the rock with a few items in memory of Phred. Like a small fire truck and I am not sure what else. If anyone wants to add something, bring it along. Just make sure it isn't too big. I was thinking of finding a cookie tin type box so it won't be that big.
As far as needing help with some of the stuff, I would be glad for help, Grace and Kimmy. Grace, I think I have enough "utensils" but the napkins would be great. I'll check tomorrow morning to be sure that is correct. Maybe you could pick up some paper plates too. I am pretty sure we are low on them.
Kimmy if you could pick up a small bottle of catsup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish and whatever else you think people would like on their sandwiches, please do.
Thanks to both of you. Sunday is coming quickly. We spent the evening cleaning the leaves and broken plants and limbs out of the yard and there is still some clean up to do. I am suppose to pick up the rock in Toledo tomorrow and Saturday, I will be making potato salad, brownies and maybe a few cookies. I am probably going to have to repot some stuff too from the yard as many of my pots are broken.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.
We are sorry to tell you all that we will not be able to make it out this time. We have always had a wonderful time all the years that we went out to Findlay, and would so love to be able to be with you all, especially the new folks. I have promised Staci I will write up something for Phred's little memorial service-of-sorts, and I will do that before Sunday, I promise.
We have been in the process of selling our house, and things kept getting delayed by this or that, but we finally had the closing just a few days ago. We have been extremely busy cleaning it out, and still have a few more things to move. As we are in an apartment for now, we have some things in a rented storage place, some in Paul's mom's basement, and our mower and gardening tools are spending their "summer vacation" in my Dad's garage. So there's just no way we could take the time away right now. If it had happened as originally planned, it all would have been done a few weeks ago, but ... anyway, that's why.
We will miss you all, and miss the chance to meet Phred's sister, and give hugs to everyone. And my dog-shaped cookie cutters are all packed away in a box right now, too, and I am sure certain canines would be expecting their dog-safe people tasty cookies.
We will be thinking of you all on Sunday, and will certainly be with you in spirit, I promise! Please, please, take lots and lots of pictures, okay?
And, Diana? There haz to be a chocca-chip cookie in that box, okay?
Napkins and paper plates - no problem :)
I know we always ask, but could someone be sure to take lots of pictures, especially of everyone with their respective dogs? I sooo wish we could be there, but just cannot this time. And be sure to get one of Phred's sister with the Smoke-mutt and crew, too, okay?
We'll be there in spirit, sure wish it wasn't so far away now. (not even close to the 2 mile drive it used to be, lol!) I've been thinking about Phred a lot lately, sure miss his posts and phone calls.
Could someone please take a picture of the two trees & the bench in the back corner? (A little bit of Sherman is resting there too). And maybe a couple of the Memorial trees? Hope the park dries out & you have a gloriously sunny day!
Thanks, Ashley! We will never forget all Jack's impressive tricks he showed off for us when we were there! Give him a hug from me, okay?
And Kimmie, I hope someone brings watermelon, just so a certain canine of your can munch the rinds!
if you need me to chip in.. do let me know.. I can paypal you my contribution..
IŽd rather be there.. but it will have to be some other time :( ..
I'm still up in the air as to if I am going to be there or not. Zac's family is apparently having a cook out that day and he hasn't seen his family in a long time... and I'll be taking up the rest of his weekend so I kind of feel like he should have a say in what we do ONE day...
The dog park has actually been doing a pretty good job draining itself and staying relatively clean, so hopefully there won't be a problem.
Carl and I and the grandkids were out to the dog park this morning. There was still water over the roads in a couple of spots but the roads weren't closed and you just had to drive slowly. When we got to the dogpark, everything seemed fine. It was a little wet but not bad. The kids played with a dog name Elsie and were running and having a great time. However it is raining now, so I would recommend comfortable shoes that will keep your feet dry. There was no sitting water so the dogs were not getting muddy like mine have been known to do in the past.
All the rain is sure to bring out the mosquitoes so if you have bug spray you better bring it too. Didn't notice any this morning but it was a little cool when we were out there. Tomorrow is suppose to be warmer.
Can't wait!
I so wish we could be there with you all! We'll miss you, but be thinking of you!
I will be thinking of you guys tomorrow. My heart hurts to think I won't be there to share in the service of our dear friend. I know he and Bowser will be there amongst you and it wouldn't surprise me if he even sent a fire truck. (If he can send one across the states to a certain BBQ, I'm sure he can send one to the dog park.:) )
How I would love to be there - because I am sure that Phred's spirit will be right there all day.
I will stop and say a prayer for Phred and tell him how much we all miss him. I would love it if my phone rang and it was Phred just like the old days. You never know what you have until it is gone. All of us are so lucky to have known him.
:love::love: for all of you.
I would have enjoyed being there to see the official PT send-off for Phred as well, so I am thinking of you guys and looks like the weather should be great for you all today. :)
I called Staci's cell phone and had a chance to speak to a few people. (interrupted picture taking apparently :o)
Was it two years ago that Mz Gini and I partied in downtown Dayton???:D
Wish I could be there again so see all of you. I'm looking forward to seeing all the pictures when they are posted.
Love you all
We just got home. As we drove through town the Tornado Sirens went off. So we're huddled in here. Had a great time. Took no pictures, but many were taken.
Signing off until the storm is over.
Just got home myself. Ashley and I got caught just outside of Findlay with a downpour and hail and the winds!!
There was a tornado warning for Lansing around 5, but my house is okay. Talking to my parents, it sounds like Eaton Rapids got a lot of trees down.
Had a great time today and will have my photos up soon. :D
I had a great time, as usual! :D Turned out to be a gorgeous day up until the drive home, but I enjoyed seeing the sun while it lasted!
I'll post a couple pictures here, the rest are in the album: http://s1186.photobucket.com/albums/...eeting%202011/
Karen, I didn't any posed photos of people with their dogs, or one of Nancy with Cinder and Smokey :o But I think Anna was doing a good job of getting pictures of everybody!

Ashley, your photos are fantastic :) I especially like all the shots of the dogs - they all had a wonderful time.
Thanks for the pictures, Ashley, and I look forward to Kimmie's and Anna's and everyone else's too!
i got just a few photos. Not sure how good they are.
It was an emotional day for sure.
But fun with friends and loved ones and dogs. :) I know Phred was there in spirit!

Here's my few pics with some pics of my cats who were there in spirit. :) ;)
Hi everyone,
What a wonderful, wonderful thing to do to commemorate Phred.
I was thinking of him over the weekend, and of all of you at the "bash".
Thanks so much for the pictures - as being in Australia, it would have been a HELL OF A DRIVE to come and take part.
Huge spottie kisses to everyone.
Michelle
Aww man, I'm crying all over again. That was beautiful! I'm so glad the weather held out long enough for you all to enjoy the day. :)
The Memorial marker is gorgeous! How very special! Thanks for posting a bit of the goings-on, will go thru the albums when I have more time.
God Bless Phred forever!
Across the front, 4 Dog Mother with Dominic on her lap. Jasmine is on the table (Dakota's Mommy's kids). Joan and Pat are next, Phred's friends from Berlin Center (the ones who often watched Cinder and Smoke, and who have Callie and Molly that Phred often watched). Grace is poking her head between them. I am on the ground next to Pat, with my husband (Sadie'sDad) behind.
Standing (l to r) is Phred's sister Nancy, Dakota'sMommy, k9krazee, Robilee, Angus'sDad and Anna_66, Doug (Grace's husband), ramanth, shais_mom, 5 Dog Dad, wolf_q and her husband Corby.

Phred was most definitely there.. IŽm sure he organized everything for you to have nice weather..
adorable tribute!!.. couldnŽt be better..
miss you Phred.. take care of our own up there.. weŽll see yaŽll later..
Enjoyed the photos, Ashley and Staci. Good job! Ashley, I really liked how you set up the collages. I'm going to save those.
I had a really good time yesterday. It was so nice to see everyone. I was touched by sadness when I first pulled up because it was usually Phred that was always there to greet me. It was really great to meet his sister Nancy and his friends, Joan and Pat. Staci read Karen's tribute to Phred and it was very touching and the memorial stone was beautiful. Loved seeing all the dogs and chatting with friends!
Wish I would have taken more picture and tried to at least get one of each person and dog but I was just too busy enjoying the day. Here's the photos that I did get.

What a great day we had! We missed all of you who couldn't be there, but I know you were all there in spirit:)
Like Robin said, it's strange not having Phred there to welcome us as he always did, but there was a wonderful tribute to him that had been set up.
We had a very nice memorial around 2 and everyone shared their special stories. It was touching and heartbreaking. Carl, Diana & Staci did a great job and the stone is beautiful. I know Phred would have approved...the dogs sure did:D
Little miss Huney decided to rest by it. Phred was one of her most favorite people...he always had the good cookies:D
I think our group photo turned out pretty good!
A photo of the trees and bench was wanted. The trees have gotten HUGE!
We had a great time!
I'm having problems with the picture site so I'll just add them as attachments.
But if you want to see them all here is the album....share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=9QZtWbhy0YUY
Enjoy the pictures as a slideshow in full screen...much better!
Loved all the pictures and happy the weather was good. Karen, could you please copy your tribute to Phred to this thread?
John Morris, a.k.a. Phred was more than a beloved member of Pet Talk, he was a pillar of the community in many, many ways. He was a worrier about the youngsters on the board, a sucker for a pooch in need, and - not everyone will know this - the only other member of Pet Talk that we ever allowed to be a moderator. He and one other person that we later had to ban were asked and took on the task in October of 2001, when Paul and I were traveling to Beijing for a week, and unsure what Internet access we'd have. He did a great job, but I don't think he got a lot of sleep that week, he was so concerned about keeping everything going, so once we were back home, he asked to be demoted again pretty quickly.
You all know what a great and often wry sense of humor he had, and self-deprecating doesn't even begin to cut it. But what you may not know is how much he cared even off the board for members. He was known to get directions to the lost, help a wayward member with car trouble on a cross-country trip, and spend the time to call folks he felt were missing, or might need a phone call. I got several calls when he was worried about one person or another over the years, and as his health deteriorated, I became the one to call him instead. I remember the first time he was hospitalized with serious heart trouble, and I was calling the hospital to check on him. I knew other Pet Talkers had likely already called, and I figured they'd only believe so many "I'm his ex-wife" claims, so when the nurse on the desk said, in a brisk, faintly disapproving manner, "Are you a relative?" I answered, "Not really, but he calls me "Mom" even though I'm a good bit younger than he is ..." and she changed her tone, chuckled and put me through.
He was an organizer - of these gatherings, of the bench and memorial, and other quieter gestures. We still have the silk flowers he sent us when Miss Hoppy died, they are on the mantle of our new apartment. And "Stoney" the rabbit he sent us one Christmas is in the living room - it's theoretically a garden ornament, but never went outside or got dirty.
His unique take on posting in Cinder and Smoke's vernacular will forever be a part of Pet Talk, and certain threads of his will be remembered forever. He left is mark on us all, and left the world a better place than it likely was before he to came this ol' dirtball. And although he passed away, he remains one of us, because as I have said before,
Death does not win
Love lives on
In stories and memories
In gestures and phrases
Long after our bodies have failed,
Love lives on.
We miss him, but smile thinking of the raucous greeting he surely got that day, when he arrived at The Rainbow Bridge, to be greeted not only by Boots, and Bowser, but by all the animals he loved over the years.
And we'll see him again some day when we get there, too, and look forward to that hug.
lovely words Karen.. really lovely and heartwarming :Ž)
What a lovely, wonderful gathering it sounds like it was! So nice to look at the pictures and read the reports.
I had been planning to come with Gretchen and Doug but had been fighting off a cold for a few days. Yesterday morning I woke up woozy and hot and stuffed up, so I thought I'd best stay home.. if I was getting a virus, I didn't want it to go viral (among all the PTers)!
I'm glad you all had such a fine time and that the weather was good for the celebration. And what a time Phred and all our friends at the Bridge must have had with you all there too!
