great job!!!!!
I did it for selfish reasons too, she is such a sweet little thing with a tiny
little soft squeek she greets me with.:D She has been so alone since Momma
Kitty passed away.:(
She did great last night. Ate her supper & used the litter tray I put in
the cage for her.:) I let one of the cats follow me into her room this morning
to change her litter box & feed her breakfast. She perked right up and put
her nose to the bars to touch noses with Joey. Then she stretched out & put
her paw through the bars to touch him. Joey was amazed & so was I. Baby
isn't at all afraid of him. :)
The other cats came close enough to sniff her, but then left to go sun
themselves in the kitchen upstairs. Baby greeted each one with a tiny
squeek & a stretched out paw. They aren't quite sure what to make of
her yet, but I think it's going pretty well so far. (Knock wood):)
Liz, this is wonderful news! I'm glad you were so persistent and managed to get her inside to a life in luxury. :) It also seems that she will get along quite well with the others.
Well done!
Do we dare ask for any pictures yet - pretty please :)
This is such great news! What a fantastic start to 2011.
She sounds like she is a sweet kitty at heart and now she will have warmth, good food, and other kitties in her life. Good job on this rescue!:)
I have a non working digital camera.:(:( I have taken some of her & others
with a disposible camera but still have a few pics to go before I turn it in for
a cd. Baby is pretty scared by the flash of the camera, but I'll try to get
a few if I can without spooking her to much.
This is great news!!!!:) I've heard that many times feral cats prefer other cats over people so it sounds like she's going to accept your other cats without any problems. Hopefully they'll also accept her. Good luck.:)
Today I moved BK out from the secluded room she's been staying in
into a larger room where the sounds of the house are not as muffled.
She is closer to the furnace, washer & dryer, etc.She can also hear the
TV from upstairs. So far, so good.:)
She was all wide eyed and a little nervous at first, but calmed down
after I sat & talked to her awhile. Her little head was on a swivel as she
checked out all the new sights and sounds. Once she gets accustomed
to this room & these new sounds, I'll feel more comfortable letting her out of
the cage to explore a little. I can hardly wait.:)
Three out of the four boys are acting more comfortable with her now. Only
shy cat now is my Blackie who seems afraid to get too near BK. He did
finally touch noses with her this morning without hissing, so that's a good
sign I guess. I don't want to speak too soon, but I hope, hope, hope
this all works out.:) (knock wood):)
Oooh, things are moving right along as they should be!
Well done, all!
:love::love::love::love::love::love:
Sounds great! And you are letting her take her time...can hardly wait til she feels ok about exploring. I love your "swivel head' comment. :D
Hugs and cuddles to Baby as soon as she will allow them.:)
This is great news and I hope that everything will continue to go smoothly.:)
Happy New Year!!
I just got all caught up on this thread too. I'm so happy Baby is in the house. And it sounds like there won't be much of a problem between her and the boys. You're lucky. I'm still having issues with my two cats, or should I say my girl cat.
I can't wait to hear she is out and about in the house. And I also can't wait for pictures. Take pictures of all of your furbabies to use the rest of the film. I'd like to see all of them anyway. ;)
Hello, Wow, What an experience so far. I too just found this thread & read it from the beginning until now. You are a caring patient person to bring BK into your home. I'll be checking back to see what is going on. Kay in NC, Sat, Jan 8 at 11:40am
HOORAY FOR BABY KITTY :love::love::love:
This reminds me so much of 6 years ago when I was trying to convince Scrappy Two that being a Found Cat would be a good thing.:cool:
She was so lucky to have Young Cats like Miquelito and Pouncierge to play with and Moose, Joseph and Michael to be her mentors:love::love:
Now your Boys will be Baby Kitty's Mentors and be her Friends and amke her happy that she decided to be Your Cat.:love::love:
Things are progressing pretty well. Baby is now completely out of the
cage but still spends overnights in her separate room. This afternoon
she spent all her time exploring both rooms & touching noses with the other
kitties. I just sat nearby and read a book.:)
She is so much at ease with other cats around. I always had the feeling
she would enjoy being near other friendly kitties. She & Joey, my youngest
black dsh cat, are getting along the best so far.:)
It's not all roses yet, but I am pleased so far. She is out of the freezing
cold, she is warm ,comfortable and safe.:) I think she might always prefer
the company of other cats to humans, but I love her enough to let her be
who she is. She still comes when I call her & that's enough for me.:)
Where the heck are the pictures of this precious kitty?:D
Sounds like your transition is working out just fine! Kittens are so easy to incorporate into a home of older cats. They just smack them silly till they finally get it. Long as there's no blood shed. Have a squirt bottle handy. Great job, Lizbud!!
I'm so happy to hear that you have Baby Kitty inside and that she is doing so well. Whaty a lucky girl! :D
Pictures would be nice.
Thanks Donna.:) Baby Kitty is not a kitten. She has lived in my garage
for the last 4 1/2 years. I think she was about 6-7mos when she first showed
in the neighborhood. She is just so small & acts so kittenish, I started to call
her Baby.
Pictures are coming, I promise. I've just been bending over backwards to
make everything as stress free as possible & none of the cats are big fans of
the camera, especially Baby. The flash scares her.:(
It shouldn't be to hard to snap a few though as everyone settles down
a little more. Slow & easy is the motto around here right now.:)
Please don't scare the Baby. We can wait awhile for pictures. It is more important that she is able to adjust to being inside. BUT, when she is comfy...well, we do love pictures here!:D
I have a problem with one cat, Blackie. He is a dsh black cat who is the
oldest kitty (by 1 yr) and the first cat brought inside besides Momma Kitty's
two babies (Redbud & Michael). Blackie was brought inside when they were
both less than a year old. He is the official Uncle to all the younger ones.:)
Problem is, he will not eat in the same room as Baby Kitty & I've always
fed everyone together, until now. I have been taking his plate into another
room for him and feeding his wet food separate from the others.:(
Is this a good idea? Or should I hold out & make him come join the others?
Any ideas to help solve this problem?
Well, the feeding problem resolved itself and things are moving alone
very well. BK has found all the fun hidey places & mixs & mingles pretty well
with all the other kitties.:) She seems to have picked out Joey (my youngest)
as her play buddy & follows him around the most.
I am so glad I brought her inside. I have finished the pictures and
will drop off the camera to get them put on a cd so I should have pictures
to upload next week.
Well, no pictures of Baby Kitty inside just yet, but here's a few of her
just before I brought her inside.
Sitting on my car.

She took off like a shot when the flash went off & ended up here. Can you
see where she is hiding?

She getting more at ease inside everyday now. I hope to get more pics
as we go along. I'll have to be sneaky.:)
She's a lovely fluff ball :)
So she is adapting to life inside? I'm so glad you got her living the good life.
Lizbud-
She is beautiful. What a fluffy coat. :)
Hello, I just re-read the entire post to refresh my ole memory. GREAT--she is inside your house with the other cats and no longer confined to cage or separate room. YOU DID GOOD!! and Baby did also. She is a very PRETTY girl and I am so glad you had the patience and caring to get her used to your house and other cats. I'll keep checking back for any new info and pics. Kay in NC Sat, Jan 29 2011
Liz, your patience has payed off! :D It's great she is mingling with the others so easily and getting to know the inside of your house where she is warm and safe. What a sweet girl she is. :)
It will take a while longer, but she may end up next to you on the sofa. ;)
Great job!
liz, I've been following this thread just never replied. :o Good for you for getting her inside! She's so pretty!:)
She is a very beautiful cat! I am glad she is inside and seems to be adjusting very well!
Baby Kitty is not feeling well.:(:( She seems to be all stuffed up and
has not been eating for the last couple of days. She did drink some water
and when she tried to eat, she wound up spitting it back out.:(
This was always my greatest fear with bringing her inside before she was
more tame & would let me touch her. Maybe I should have left her in the garage
until she trusted me more. I have been so upset all morning just
worrying about her.Maybe being inside stressed her out more than I imagined
it would.:( She seemed to be doing alright up until a few days ago.
I see strays, that I feed, survive for years outside and they don't seem
to get sick, why her?:(:( I hope I didn't do the wrong thing by trying to help
make her life more comfortable.:(
Could be a simple URI. Can you get her into a carrier and to the vet?
Prayers that some antibiotics will fix her up soon...maybe a long-term injection so you don't have to pill her.
Prayers for little Baby.
I hope she will be over this soon and back to good health and appetite.
I am so glad you have rescued her and brought her inside from all that cold and snow. Thank you so much.
:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:
I still think that you did the right thing by bringing her inside. Hopefully she'll get over this soon and I agree that she may need to see a vet. If she can't smell her food then she won't want to eat. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
Liz, any update?
I am sad to say that I have made a appt for Baby Kitty to be PTS
tomorrow.:(:( I had the appt set for today, but I couldn't do it and
cancelled it at the last minute. Although the URI seemed to be getting
better for awhile, she still will not or cannot eat any food and yesterday
and today, could not even drink any water.:(
I thought I was doing the right thing for Baby by bringing her inside, but
now I'm not so sure. She was perfectly healthy before & only became sick
after she came inside. I feel so sick at heart right now. I only wanted the
very best for Baby Kitty & I hate that she is so very sick. I have failed her.
I only hope when she gets to the RB, she will understand that I love her
and only wanted to make her life better, not worse.:(
I'm so very sorry, liz
Liz, I'm so sorry to hear this.:( May her journey to the Bridge be a peaceful one. She knew that she was very loved. Please take care. (((HUGS)))
