This is a great linguistic thread. I am now so glad I can say "headbumpies" and "nosekissies" in English. It's the 2 first English words Filou has learnt.

This is such a revelation, to know that so many other people become complete loonies around their kitties and talk "kitty talk" at them. My mom was the inspiration for a lot of the words I use to refer to kitty things - she adored every cat we ever had. One of her words was "hoo-ing", which is when the kitty smells something exceptionally stinky and then holds his mouth open to savor it. She also referred to a"winkie" bath as "making a flagpole". (Meaning the kitty's back leg, not his winkie!) The precious gems the kitties left in the litter box were referred to as "Heyday Cookies". I don't know if they even make those cookies anymore, but they were like sugar wafers covered in caramel and chocolate, and then rolled in nuts. So the poopies covered with the old-fashioned clay litter looked just like those cookies. And one of my all-time favorites refers to the beautiful rows of dots on the kitty's muzzle where the whiskers come out - she called these "piecrust holes", because it looked like how you would prick a piecrust with a fork before you bake it. "Airplane ears" were mad kitty ears laying flat, like airplane wings.
"Needle-y teeth" are the tiny little teeth between the fangs.
And a scared kitty tail was a "bottle brush".
My, how I do go on! Oh well, kitties are one of my favorite topics!
All creatures G and S- thank goodness YOU DID NOT go on...I am laughing so hard at those! Good thing you clarify'd the flagpole though..I love the new ones that you came up with. The airplane ears is great! When the tails go big..we say they are starchy or frosty. Mom's one tabby has exsquisite markings, but for one little spot on his arm. We say that Indra has a hole in his sweater.. the poop in the box are "presents" or we say the cat is in his studio 'creating artwork'.. On the rare occasion someone eats tinsel or gift wrap..we say, "oh, look, Indra wrapped something for you"..
As to the Winkie reference, Please look in Cat Health- Basil's Mommy started a thred about a personal question..I don't know how to make a link to it!
My good friend, Peggy, who has two Golden Retrievers, says "winkie" when she means "pee". She tells those big, handsome boys to go "winkie". LOL!!!!
My mother's dog goes "winky-tinky"!Quote:
"winkie" when she means "pee
Hehehe :) When my mom's shih tzu was a puppy, he was so small and close to the ground that you really couldn't tell if he had peed or not. The only way to tell if he had peed, was to see if he had a "wet wee" :) And he is now full grown at 5 pounds, and occationally when we pick him up, he has a "wet wee" :) Hehehe :)Quote:

This is a delightful thread. One of the best that I can remember in a long time, in my opinion. Some of my favorite PT words are:
Stuffie, Stinkies, Headbumpies, Making biscuts (kneeding kitties), HEAD BUNNIE (Karen :) ) and Nawteedawg. These words were not in my vocabulary before PT, and now I use them all the time. I think they are just the cutest :)
I think I can safely take credit for that one; see this thread (you'll have to scroll about ten posts down to see it)....Quote:

On that same thread there's "parade float kitty" also, coined by tuxluvr.
I agree with the others, this is a fun thread! I really like "headbumpies" and "scritchies"--seeing them here in Cat General makes me believe they're for exclusive kitty use only!!!
i just loooove "winky-tinky"!!!:p
LOL LOL ROTFLMAO!!! :D :D
I just can't get enough! These are great! Tuxluvr, your pose names are priceless! Thanks for posting the link to that thread Amberlee! I too am sitting here with tears of laughter streaming down my face!

Trevor would like to model the "cat loaf" or "meat loaf" position. He finds this most comfortable and it keeps his little kittie piggies warm at the same time.

Yay Trevor! What a wonderful Catloaf poser you are!:) That is EXACTLY the catloaf!! LOL LOL :D :D
I just remembered another one that my mom's sister used (she is also a cat lover and I think when they were kids together on the farm they coined all these phrases watching the barn kitties).
When a kitty lays on his or her side and stretches WAAAAAAY out, with the back curved, and all 4 legs stretched way out, my aunt called that "zooming". I have not caught a picture yet of my kitty zooming, but I'll bet some of you have - if you have one, could you share it with the group?:D
Pam, thanx for posting that pic, I finally got the hang of it what that "cat loaf" position means. Great pic! :)
We always called the "catloaf" a "loaf of bread, cat" So that's not far off.
And I hate to have old news here, but you got way aheads of me. I got to read the "frito feet" thread last night, and having only cats could not wait to get to work this morning to smell all the dog feet. And they
DO SMELL LIKE FRITOS !!!
THERE IT IS.
Trevor is doing parade float kitty!.... isn't that where cat boobies came from too?!!?!?
I just found another one. I had forgotten how often he gets in this mode and the funny thing is that I don't think I have ever seen Andy this way except maybe once or twice. He likes to stretch out and make himself appear to be really long. :D

Do you mean this? I have half caught it, but Mini is hard to photograph when he is doing the backwards pretzel (as well call it!)Quote:

What you call "parade float kitty" is something Miss Hoppy does, but that I call her "bunny slipper pose" no feet visible at all! ;)
One word I looved that I first heard hear was - "She's a real laprador!" (Lab thinking she's a lap dog!)
And of course, there's always the fabled land of PetTalkville!
Daisy, thanks for answering my question and posting the thread about kitty boobies! I still love the picture from that cat of the day that thread was from.
Trevor is doing a good boobie pose in the photo of him on the stairs, see how he has bumps Sara, I think the parade float has the front feet tucked under more like in the first Trevor photo.:)

that picture should go on the *caption game*. It would then read:
"See, I'm tall enough to go on the big kid's rides!"
A new word I learned here at PT , is "my humans" ! LOL
And Amberlee's "hippo birdie ewe ewe ! and miiini mooore ! "
hahahaha !http://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gifhttp://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gifhttp://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gifhttp://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gif
Well... there is a Pet Talk phrase that now causes me some confusion at work. The 'big' manager loooooves to encourage us to "think outside the box". Now that I spend so much time here at Pet Talk, I have to stop and think about just what box it is we're to be thinking outside of. It doesn't seem so positive anymore. :D  :D
I call it telescope cat.Quote:

And the cat loaf we call "roast goose". Tigris can do it purrfectly.
Yep, that is a lovely example of "zooming" (the backwards pretzel). I'm still trying to catch a picture of "monkeytoes" (back toes gripping). I may have to quit my job to just follow my kitty around the house and photograph him:p :p :D Wouldn't that be great? (I just got done with a 14 hour overnight shift, so the thought of quitting my job is like nirvana at this point!)
I can't believe I've missed this so far! FUNtastic! "Meat Loaf" is virtually Pip's middle name around here. There was a funny little book, I can't remember anything about it except that it began with the definition "CAT: a h--- of a nice animal strongly resembling a meat loaf." Also, since the Abys consider themselves fully, perhaps super-, "human." they refer to us as "our bipeds."
I think I can take credit for "parade float kitty" - there was a post called 'kitty positions' or "kitty poses" or something like that...Quote:

I call "Parade Float Kitty" that posed they do when they sit on all of their feet - it looks like they are parade floats - just put little wheels under them and pull them down the avenue!x

We refer to Ritzy's visits to the litter box as "laying down the tootsie rolls"....yeah, Iknow..gross..
Ahh I see you found kitty positions (after reading all the threads)
;)
Here is the classic "parade float Ritzy"
Here's another version of "cutie pie cat"....this is also a favorite "toe pose"....like "see my new French manicure?"
A new position of Ritz's is to curl up on the couch with three feet stretched out and one foot under...the three are "stacked" on top of one another.....referred to as "bundlefoot"
Another is "otter cat"...when she lies on her back and plays with a toy mousie, then rests it on her upper tummy....reminded me of those nature shows with otters floating in the water on their backs with abalone shells on their tummies! :)
And of COURSE there is "working the room"...the cute cat pose that NO MORTAL can resist (on back, paws curled up, head slightly askew....well, you see the signature pic) :)
Tuxluvr, I think Ritzy makes a perfect parade float in that photo you posted!:)
Thanks..Quote:

I received a Sharper Image catalogue in the mail yesterday and was looking at it and saw this "cordless robot sweeper' thing that looked like a big platter that had wheels that rolled around on the floor and swept stuff up - as it bumped into things it would stop and move another direction..
My friend and I figured we could never have such a thing in our homes because of the cats...then we starting thinking...wait, couldn't you just see coming downstairs and your cat was "riding" on it? I couldn't stop laughing at the visual...a REAL parade float kitty!

Look, down on the ground, it's a rug, it's a shoe, NO it's SOOOPER CAT!
I think we can establish from this picture that cat's have rubber bones!
I sure don't know what hamwort is...doesn't sound good, though.
The cat flat on his back is a 'train wreck' at my house. Then, the pretzel is the backwards "U"...and it is so funny. My biggest, fluffiest cat does it the most! He stretches until he just can't stretch, and looks like a very wide "U".
And finally, after sniffing Allie and Dakky's toes...I must tell you weirdos...they don't smell like Fritos at all to me. I don't know what they smell like, but it isn't that. I couldn't get to the other four cats..I think they saw me coming and said, "watch out, something weird is about to happen to us".
I did manage to massage Allie's feet, and make her do the toe stretch thing - which is just adorable.
I have no idea whether the paws smell different from the rest of the cat but I know that Tigris smells faintly like cinnamon and Filou smells more like an Indian curry (which is anyway among the dishes he likes)
xx
Another classis thread is born!!:D:D:D Too funny! I have to write these all down! What a creative group! So many favorties!!
I remember once when I posted about taking the kitties to the vets', I referred to their Pet Taxis as their PORTA PRISONS I remember Pauline really liked that one! And Rachel loves the phrase "time for a tubbie" when the kids need a bath!
As a kid, I remember me and my brother watching the kitties grooming. We watched them sit back on their hineys, lifting and stretching their legs waaaaaaaay up over their shoulder for cleaning in full "pointe." The Ballet tootsie was born! This was the same night we smelled their feet and proclaimed them Popcorn paws...the kitty equivalent of doggie Frito feet!
And if I may be so blunt...we call those little hangers that don't don't seem to make it into the litter box dingleberries OR clingons:D
Thanks for the laughs, guys!!
Those are all GREAT! I love "porta prisons"! We used to call the "klingons" "butt klinkers"............
