~A Rescued Cat~
I was once born to a loving mother who cuddled and rendered to my needs.Soon, I was introduced to another, who said we will now tend to your needs.Life was good, I had all I could wish for with lots of toys and special feeds.
Then one day, I was lifted up and carried away. I was sat down and left to make my own way.I looked around and found I had no place to stay. I soon felt the harshness of natures day.I walked and walked looking for the one who said I was special wanting to play.Day turned into night, I was taken with fright, what was I going to do this night?
I found an old box, crawled in and settled down to wait, hoping they would appear in sight.Night turned into day, I was still with fright, but my belly was tight. I knew it was time for my breakfast. I waited and hoped for them to come back and say it will be all right. The days turned into weeks, some days I felt so weak. I traveled and hunted looking for a treat.I tried to beg for help, but all I got was a kick as I silently cried why, I don't understand, I was once told that you are my little man, now it's all I can do to stand.some days I weep as I long for a safe place to sleep. I pray that some days I will find enough to eat.I run and fight. I dodge and creep.
Then one day I hear a voice say, come here little stray, I will help you find a place to stay. I run afraid looking for a safe place to hide. The voice calls high, don't be afraid I will help you little guy. I sit and watch, waiting for the worst, but I'm offered a tin of milk to help my thirst. The day goes by and to my surprise I find a bowl of food piled high. I eat with glee, oh gee why is she so nice to me.Could it possibly be she will love me? I soon again learn to trust, as the voice smoothes my soul and the hand grooms my coat that has become dull, where there was once a glow. I hear the words don't be afraid, I will take you in and give you a place to lay.As I relax my head and body to rest, I hear the words God Bless you little stray you now have a place to stay.

Most important of all creatures to the coast Indian peoples was Raven. It was Raven – the Transformer, the cultural hero, the trickster, the Big Man (he took many forms to many peoples) – who created the world. He put the sun, moon and stars into the sky, fish into the sea, salmon into the rivers, and food onto the land; he manoeuvred the tides to assure daily acces to beach resources. Raven gave people fire and water, placed the rivers, lakes and cedar trees over thr land, and people the earth.
Full of magical, supernatural power, Raven could turn himself into anything at any time. He could dive beneath the sea, ascend into the sky, or make anything happen by willing it. His legendary antics were often motivated by insatiable greed, and love to tease, to cheat, to woo, and to trick. But all often were turned on to hapless Raven

Better Watch What You Pray For!
The Cat From God!
A true story about a pastor and his experience. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and to the tree and drove away so that the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. He did all this, checking his progress in the car frequently, then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved a little further forward....the rope broke. The tree went "bong!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air out of sight. The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.
A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. Now this woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?" She replied, "You won't believe this," and told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the mom finally told her little girl, "Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it." She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws spread out, and landed right in front of her."

How many breeds and kinds of pets there are
I never knew until we started Pet of the Day!
Who knew a Xoloitzcuintli existed, near or far
Or a Sphynx would be not a statue, but a real live Cat of the Day?
Who knew how many rescues we'd meet through this site
Or how many rescuers who care day and night?
I didn't know about the Selkirk Rex with its curly fur
Didn't know a prairie dog could be a pet, that's for sure!
A Portuguese Podengo Medio, a Degu or Duprasi
An Alaskan Klee Kai, a Scottish Fold so sweet and sassy
These are not just creatures from a fairy tale or book
They're real live pets that we learn about and are hooked!
And there are the unique "breeds," the one of a kind shelter finds,
Whose ancestries are a puzzle, but they're gems of every kind.
But of all the purebreeds and mixes, one thing I always knew
Is that their people love and cherish them, and guess what?
We do, too!

Hey, do you know about the USA?
do you know about the government?
Can you tell me about the Constitution?
Hey, learn about the USA.
In seventeen eighty-seven I'm told
Our founding fathers did agree
To write a list of principles
for keepin' people free.
The USA was just startin' out.
A whole brand-new country.
And so our people spelled it out
The things that we should be.
And they put those principles down on
paper and called it the Constitution, and
It's been helping us run our country ever
since then. The first part of the
Constitution is called the preamble and tells
what those founding fathers set out to do.
We the people
In order to form a more perfect union,
Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
provide for the common defense,
promote the general welfare and
Secure the blessings of liberty
To ourselves and our posterity
do ordain and establish this Constitution
for the United States of America.

Along the edge of Georgetown runs a broad esplanade, bounded on one side by the sea and on the other by an area of trees and grass, intersected by numerous canals. This was a favourite haunt for toads and courting couples.
These toads are a great putty~colored beasts motled with chocolate blotches. They are attractive creatures, with wide mouth set in a perpetual grin, large, dark pop~eyes that are shot with silver and gold, and a portly and well~fed appearance. They are, as a rule, rather lethargic, but, as we discovered that night, they were capable of an astonishing turn of speed.
These toads had hitherto led a tranquil life, meditating by day and singing part~songs by night, so they were amazed and affronted by the appearance in their midst of four people who chased them vigorously with a torch. No less amazed and affronted where the vast number of courting couples who littered the grass almost as thickly as the toads. The toads strongly objected to the torch being flashed on them, on so did the courting couples. The toads did not like being chased across miles of grass, and the curting couples were unanimous in their opinion of the four maniacs who leapt over their recumbent bodies in pursuit of the toads. However, in beween tripping over courting couples and apologizng to them, shining the torch on them and hastly turnig it of again, we managed to catch thirty~five toads. So we returned home, hot and out of breath but in much better frame of mind, leaving behind us a great many frightened toads and a number of indignant people of both sexes.

Volunteers are urgently needed to join a ten day field trip
to help locate and record two of Tasmania's most elusive frogs ~
the Southern Toadlet and the Smooth Froglet.
"This field trip has been organised to collect new data which will
update and improve our knowledge of these mysterious
autumn breeding frogs."
"Frog enthusiasts ~ and isn't that everybody ~ can join the trip at
any stage, and can participate for a day or the entire ten days," says Dr Michaels.
Volunteers keen to join the field trip should enjoy Tasmania's
fickle autumn weather, shouldn't mind roughing it and be prepared
to get a little muddy if necessary.
The Smooth Froglet is a plump, dark brown frog with light brown
stripes, white belly and pink thighs. It is usually found in coastal
heaths, sedges and forests in western and central Tasmania and
King Island.
The Southern Toadlet is a small burrowing frog which walks
rather than hops. It also has colourful markings ~ a bright
orange throat and back legs and a marbled black and blue
pattern on its belly.
"Conditions in Tasmania are favourable at the moment and the
field trip has been planned to coincide with the time that these
frogs are most active and therefore easier to detect," says
Dr Michaels.
