Heather, I meant to post this to you this morning, but I ran out of time.
I am so sorry to hear of your losing Baby Ebony. What a shock for you. I know how much you love all of your bunnies!

Everyones messages have been really special, Ebony would have loved all of the atttention and love.
Since the weather is ok today I am going to put the bunny boys inthe garden but I will have to split the run in two as Cadbury is still atcking poor Twinkle. Gives me a chance to clean out their hutches with them causing havoc at the same time.
xx
Heather, So sorry to hear that your sweet Ebony passed away. She had a good life and she will run free with all the other bunnies that have gone to the bridge. I will be thinking about you.
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Ebony. May she rest in peace.
Hi Heather,
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Ebony, this has touched me very much as I am a bunny lover.
I got my first one when I was a young child and when my dear sweet "Friskie" died I was so upset....from then on my dear Mother gave me anything to do with bunnies for every occasion....and even though Mom has gone now my children know my love of these very special creatures, and have continued the tradition of a bunnie for every occasion.
Please know that I feel your saddness.

Thank you once again for your kind words everyone.Quote:

Welcome to Pet Talk MaHilts, hope to speak to you more soon.
Oh Heather, I am SO sorry to hear this very sad news:(:( I too never knew that bunnies were at such risk during spaying. We all know what a wonderful, caring, devoted furmom you were to dear little baby Ebony. I am heartbroken for you. Rest in peace dear little baby Ebony. No bunny was ever more loved. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Heather. Love, Sandra

You mentioned that spaying/neutering sounded mean. It is actually quite the opposite. Especially in dogs and cats, it reduces the chance of breast, uterine, cervical, testicular cancers. Females having just one heat cycle greatly increases the chance of these cancers.
Here are some statistics, from Dog Fancy magazine, for dogs from 2000.
An unspayed female dog, her mate, and all her puppies, none are ever neutered or spayed add up to:
1 year- 16
2 years - 128
3 years - 512
4 years - 2,048
5 years - 12,288
6 years - 67,000
And cats and rabbits go into heat more often then dogs so I can only imagine that those numbers are more than dogs. So you see as responsible pet owners, spaying and neutering, unless you are a responsible breeder is a necesitty. Nearly half of those puppies will end up in the shelter or worse. More puppies are born than there are homes to accomodate them, Millions are abdoned and put to sleep in animal shelters.
This is just some FYI in case you ever get a dog/cat. :)
Once again Heather you have my sympathy with your loss.
